i used to have one of these machines... damn thing burned in a fire along with all my instruments and other gear... it's been 22 years, you'd think i'd be over it by now, but i'm not... great post, this one is a favorite
@davo6 Thanks for your commentary, unfortunately this baby is not for sale, but I will make and upload more videos so that you guys can enjoy listening to her while staring at her reels, just as I do. If you have a song request, (classic rock, progressive rock or jazz rock) perhaps I might even consider it...
I logged a lot of hours on my 8140, multitracking. I got mine from a guy back in 1981 for 300.00 with only about 10 hours of use on it. It retailed new for, I believe 599.99. Even without a mixer, it was possible to get a solid scratch mix using the output controls and a few 'Y' cables. I loved the built-in echo patch. Once I got into digital recording, I sold it on eBay. Every now and again I'll find one, and i am tempted. I still have a few 4 track masters. Cheers!
In the 70's and 80's I did extensive recording of original music on my 8140 and litterally wore it out. No parts available. I'll give you $1000 for it.
...yeah, I figured. I really just need it to burn all my tracks to hard drive. I have a TEAC 3440, but some of my tracks are at 3 3/4 (yeah, I know) so I have to transfer a twice the original and then half speed it. At one time I had a gorlfriend with a Dokorder 8140 also and man syncing those two babies was heavenly.
12 years on, I don't know if you'll ever see this comment, but. I can't find any record of this recording being released in quadraphonic. Or is this tape just recorded in stereo in both directions? Either way, I was looking for Dokorder 8140 info because I need to restore my father's, and you introduced me to a cool song, so thank you!
Actually Dokorder was a cheap competeter with Akai & Teac. They have some crappy machines the 7100 & 7400 quad are cheaply made & I would not recomend anyone buy one. The 81 series was a little better & it is nice to see someone took the time to showcase this 8140. I have one question is that a 4 channel discrete quad tape? I like that music. I am a quadraphonic music collector.

I love passport! so smooth!
Algumas músicas do Passport se fossem lançadas hoje, ainda assim, estariam à frente das que estão no mercado e no tempo.

I have a 8140, not a very well made player...I use Teac A-2340 and Teac 3340
