    I don't want to know how many people now sit in front of their PC with small plastic boxes or use their smartphone with cheap in-ear headphones listening to the 128kBit sound of TH-cam and think: wow, what a great warm analog sound :-D

    Блин, когда-то в прошлой жизни, начиная с 1979 года, я с таким удовольствием, записывал на магнитофонную ленту, на 19-ой скорости, на новую катушку 525 метров один раз... Лента в основном была Свема, но было попадали и с лентой TDC, BASF, SONY,... Хоть ночью в наушниках ТДС-6, хоть днём в затемненной комнате, с зашторенными окнами, на акустике 25 АС на громкости в 60"/,, погружался в атмосферу дивной, заворожительной, неизведанной... Музыки, композиций, альбомов, концертов групп Рокетс, Спейс, Форежнер, Ян Гиланд, Дип Перпл, Пинк Флоид, Ози Осбьорн, Жан Жак Мишель, Крафт Вьорк, Мэн Ин Вьорк, ЭйСиДиСи, Аттаван, Арабески, Адриано Челентано,...
    Да, это музыка была ручной работы...
    Сегодняшняя музыка - полный отстой, без души, таланта, без импровизаций, без дыхания...
    Как же я рад, что мне пришлось родиться в то время, и познать истину наслаждения в качественной звукозаписи и воспроизведения... И мы точно знаем что такое HiFi, (тогда мы это называли хифи", хотя сегодня знаем точно - хайфай... И даже хайэнд...

    I have the same tape deck along with the rt 707. The rt 909 sounds great at 7 1/2 ips. At 3 3/4 ips the rt 707 sounds better. I wish it had 15 ips, I bet it would sound amazing at that speed. I really enjoyed this video thank you and have a great day..

    As the recorded track width increases with wider heads, so does the signal strenght, so the threshold for the amplifier is set higher, thus less hiss from the tape head. That's why Compact Cassettes have hiss, because the track width is pretty small, so the amplifier threshold is lower and more hiss of the tape head is amplified. Reel-To-Reel machines with their big wide tape heads do this beautifully, that's why in the early days of CD, the master recording was on Reel-To-Reel, because it literally sounded better than CD, also had a higher frequency response, sometimes going all the way to 60KHz (vs 22,050 KHz of CD). CDs with master recordings made on tape will say ADD on the cover, standing for Analog(Recording) Digital(Mixing) Digital(Transport [The CD itself]). I simply love Reel-To-Reel machines, too bad where i live they are too expensive. Damn you Brazil!

    • @georgerickard5509
      @georgerickard5509 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +André Campana Merétika The wider tape doesn't mean a stronger signal. It's just that the noise from the tape is a physical property of the tape, importantly an intensive property, so the same signal on a wider tape means the signal is larger with respect to the noise.

      The problem is that even the best reel decks show huge dropdown after 20kHz. Not to mention 12 bits are enough to truthfully represent the sound from it in every detail.

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SFtheGreat Even though 12 bits might be enough, it also means a lot of noise is coming off the Digital to Analog converter, and that can really annoying, not to mention that what bit-depth really is, is the mininum volume differences registered in different intervals, in a sort of a vertical ruler, where the wave has to be approximated to "play by the rules"

    Hi, I believe that if you get the pinch rollers to engage but they won't spin thus avoiding the tape from advancing, then you probably have a bad belt. You can take off the top black cover to confirm this.This machine uses one belt only, you can buy it at eBay with instructions included on how to replace it. Note: If you find out that the belt is ok, please come back for further instructions.

    I wanted a pioneer RT909 since it came out, I was in high school at the time. I finally got one a few years ago. This guy was moving and had to sell it that day. He took 350 dollars plus another 20 for 10 maxell and tdk 10 1/2 inch reels and some 7 inch also. The deck is in mint condition and was recently gone over by a technician. He had all receipts, even the original bill of sale when he purchased it new. I got lucky that day.

    With the development of metal cassette tapes which maintain a much slower speed, and a tiny width in comparison to reel to reel, surely some metal reel to reel tapes could be developed to spin at slower speeds. Thus the storage time would increase dramatically, or the size of reels could go down. Either way, the quality could be matched, and advanced with metal tapes, yes?

    • @AlexKarasev
      @AlexKarasev ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but the electronics would have to be modified as well. Chrome requires different settings and metal, very different

    A Pleasure to listen to and watch, who ever claims downnloading of music and playing a file is better than this needs their head tested

    • @vicinvesta8349
      @vicinvesta8349 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry. You have to have your head tested. You are trying to turn listening to the music into a fetish. And, unless you have a master tape copy, which is rare and ultra expensive, this "pleasure to listen" is inferior to CD, which is 700 MB image file (if you don't want to have it compressed). Now, we have a USB stick where you can fit all your music collection vs appliance-looking device. Yeah, it is kind of cool to stare at these 10 inch reels spinning. But really, this is not about music at all.

      @@vicinvesta8349 Well my friend, I am sorry, but that guy is right. I have a CD player worth 10k, speakers 18k, etc.etc...but I have a Studer r2r that I payed for 2k, and it blows offf my CD and the one I had before as well. Let me tell you somwthing about your mp3, it it piece of shit. Hi Res audio can come s2s with r2r but still lacks warmth, some details and sometimes instruments sound harsh, dwpends of your system. No disrespect to digital media, which have some great advatages, but it will never beat analog sound. One more thing, your CD, mine as well is 24/96, rarely it is 24/192, still depends on your DAC, HiRes is 44/96, or 44/192 and r2r is 44/196 and I mean clean cut, of course depends of the track/album/master or not, but it still beats al your FLAC, AAC, CD, Mp3 and all the crap you can put on that little thumb drive of yours. And BTW, Lp is betrer sounding as well :)

    • @vicinvesta8349
      @vicinvesta8349 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikelangelo3997 unless you listen to original tapes copied at 15 ips from master tapes (as I indicated in my post) then you have to have your head tested. Last I checked Pink Floyd "master tapes" go for $2K on eBay. If you sourced from vinyl , you cannot honestly say it is better than CD. If you do, you have your head checked. If you are adult you can't hear anything above 16kHz. So all the tape HF signal is lost on you anyway.

    • @mikelangelo3997
      @mikelangelo3997 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vicinvesta8349 Hahahahahah "IPS" so you're a computer geek :) It is about the media, about the recording, about the system you're listening it on...everything matters :) Let me tell you how it goes. When you're recording something on an Lp, you need to cut the low end or the high one, for the track to fit the media. If yiu cut the high one, you loose some of the crucial pictures in a track, if you cut low, let's say below 30 hertz, you're still good, but song can be recorded and played in full. As for the r2r, there is no cutting, everything gets there :) But again you said it yourself, "maybe if you listen to the original recording", which further means, you never heard any :) Let me tell you about the CD, it is digitally sampled on 44 khz, but since the sampling theory goes, due the recording has a 44, media as a CD is it cuts it to 22, which is the upper limit of human hearing. But a normal Cd player is rated at volume end of 16 quantities, which simples is something above 65000 volume rates. Buuuuttt my friend, here comes the Lp, nothing of that can be limited, if you Half Speed Master it :) Half Speed Master Lp's are about 150 and more $, I listen them myself. Since you don't know something, and as I stated and figured out, you're a computer guy, like my brother :) Don't be a smartasssss :)

    • @vicinvesta8349
      @vicinvesta8349 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikelangelo3997 ips is inches per second . 15 IPS is the speed at which quality recording on tape can be made. (Prolly on your fabled Studer). All that gibberish that you spewed here (in most arrogant and condescending way) does not stand double blind tests. You can talk and talk for hours about things you do not understand. You go and check your hearing. You won't hear anything higher than 16kHz . All "magic" of LP is that it adds pops and cracks on top of the hiss of analogue tape the music was recorded on originally. LP has a groove and a mechanical contact with the stylus, subject to the physics of motion. Stylus cannot follow the groove perfectly , it skips some, while experiencing minute jumps when the surface is flying under it. You lose some the "precious" data which ear compensate. You listen to your precious LP twice and you can throw it away as the grooves get warn. It is just plastic platter after all. CD and tape have none of these issues. *Theoretically* tape is great as long as it is original tape from which LPs and CDs were made, not the other way around. But realistically one cannot get these tapes given price and variety of what is available (very limited). And then we have tape specific issues - channel cross-talk, print-through, wow and flutter. And tape deteriorates with time. Whereas CD is almost forever. And even if it is not, as we have seen aluminum oxidation taking its toll on them, a ripped CD lives forever on a memory stick with no loss of quality. So, going back to my point - all this "warm analog sound" or other high end snake oil (like your $10K CD player) has nothing to do with the music. The likes of you listen to their equipment and not to the music.

    The audio tapes used on these commercial machines were 1/4 inch wide, but there were also 1/2", 1", and other sizes used in professional recording studios. The most common ones were available in reel sizes of 7" and 10.5" (like the ones shown here). What diameter size is your spool? Also, can you measure your tape width? It could be both, audio or video tape. A very long time ago I saw a reel of video tape, back in the years when commercial video cassete recorders were not invented yet.

    Классное звучание, особенно инструментальной музыки.Если бобины с магнитолентой в мире ещё выпускают,значит и магнитоальбомы лучших исполнителей тоже?Иначе какой смысл слушать перезаписи на такого класса технике?
