How does the "Away" feature of Nest work if there are more than 1 person in the house. If my wife and I are both connected to the Nest account, does it know when one of us is still home, and only activates "Away" if we have both left?
Are there any systems you know about that does have an adjustable siren? Like I want to know if a door or window is tripped while in my bedroom at night but I don't need 150db in my ear
Most don’t. I’m pretty familiar with most, but I don’t know about smaller DIY companies. But most of the time the siren is set to a certain point and that’s it.
We’ve recently been looking into a lot of security systems. We have one for the time being, but with all the scary things going on (we are security guards and work may have followed us home... I have a video explaining), but I’d like the best system possible and am shopping around. Thanks for sharing!
I bought the Ring because of the price. I put it in a home 10 hours drive from me so I could monitor it securely. Two hours into driving back to my primary home, my main camera lost wifi connection and I can't get it back. It was working when I left. Nothing works to get it back online remotely, and Ring can't troubleshoot unless I'm at the device. Wish I had gone with Google's Nest. My Nest thermostat has always worked perfectly with no problem.
Thanks for the video, I'm looking for a security system. I will like to know if the door sensor announces when a door is open if pair with mini Google.
So technically you could hide the keypad and just enable/disable the alarm using the outdoor Yale lock? Can you connect the keypad's alarm sound to an external speaker?
One hugely important thing to me is how the nest alarm integrates with the rest of the already existing infrastructure in my house. For example can the alarm use the already existing motion sensors in my fire alarms or does the voice in the alarm come through my fire alarms. This video largely misses the mark on how it integrates with other nest pieces. Personally, I would not not buy the alarm until they figure out how to use my existing nest infrastructure. Currently I have the thermostat, the doorbell, and 8 fire alarms.
I'm close to convincing the CEO (my wife) to invest in this. Two questions: When you say "mess around with the pet sensor" does that mean you've had false alarms? And how exactly does it notify you of an alarm if the internet/WiFi is down?
Regarding pets, I have two cats (so, small animals) and haven't had a false alarm in the 1.5 years I've been using it. But there is a Reduced Motion Sensitivity feature you can enable if you have smaller pets that are triggering the motion detectors while you're away. And regarding your wifi being down, you can subscribe to cellular backup for $5/mo. So if your wifi does go down, you'll receive an alert stating that Nest Guard is now using cellular backup (it's built into the hardware already, you just have to pay for the use).
Thank you for the video! if the panic button is pressed, do you know if the signal goes simultaneously to Brinks and the first responder, OR does it go first to the monitoring center then they contact the local responders? I think the difference cuts down on time if something were to happen...
I would like to know how many sensors your using in your house and are they motion sensors or die sensors. I'm looking to replace my smart things and I have a sensors on every die and window.
I second this question. My first floor has 4 rooms, 10 windows and 3 doors. This system's problem is that it needs inexpensive window sensors. The bald truth is that it's not as secure as some of the other options on the market. Not unless, in my case, I invest $600-$700 in Detect sensors.
Hi there, we are new to nest equipment. Are we able to add the nest app account to 2 iphones to for the same house? Example, like my husband and I? Would the nest app know the difference between the both of us coming or leaving our home? Thanks!
It should disarm automatically when it sees you in the driveway and arm automatically when you leave like the home and away modes automatically activating with the thermostat. That would be a cool set it and forget it setup that the other alarms don't have. No need for a key tag to carry around or having to whip out your phone to arm or disarm as it knows automatically and can even turn on the lights and unlock the door as you approach via bluetooth and facial recognition.
Nah. You don't want to geofence an alarm - kinda defeats the purpose of the alarm. Disarming manually (via app or keypad) is still the right way to do it.
I'm waiting for my Vivint contract to end, and I'll definitely switch to this! I'm also waiting for my DirecTV contract to end, so I'm definitely watching all your cord cutting videos. Right now, I'm waiting to see if DirecTV Now gets an Xbox One app.
How many nest detect or sensors could you connect to a single nest guard? Will get a notification on the nest app when it’s time to replace batteries? Is there a outdoor siren option for this system ?
Yes i need sensors on each door and window on the ground floor now we know you don’t have them on each entry point and look to see if there is a sensor
I would like to use Nest products but Yesterday the temperature was -30 and Nest products are only rated to 15. So until they make an adjustment to their hardware I will use Ring.
I have two outdoor cameras that have lived through several midwest winters, including -15F last week. I have been hesitant to put a Nest Detect door sensor on my detached/unheated garage though, as the door sensors aren't rated for temps that low. But my gut feeling is it'd probably be just fine.
Do you know if the Nest secure keypad is necessary if we already have the Google Hub Max? Can the security devices and passcode all just be accessed from the hub? Or is it necessary to purchase the extra device?
Hub Max and Secure are different devices serving completely different purposes.None is dependent on the other to work, and none can relegate its task to the other, either.
Can you customize it to arm with motion on some sensors and not on others? I have a large dog downstairs that will trigger the motion sensors. But I’d like to have motion sensors upstairs
Good product, in fact most Nest products are great but it comes with a price, at $399 it only comes with two sensors and a base. Look at Ring Security before you buy, at $299 or less you get 2 keypads, 2 motions, and 3 window/door sensors and the base. It works through your phone with all the same features including cellular with Brinks monitoring.
will i be able to keep my nest cameras on all the time, i have a few already and pay for the 30 day recording will it change with the nest secure and will i get door open/close notification even if the alarm is not set

I love Nest. But the Nest Secure is useless if you have a large home with multiple entrances and therefore need multiple keypads to arm/disarm. The fact that the system only supports one Guard unit is ridiculous.

1. Negative. 2. I used the previous generation SimpliSafe. Comparable in how it works - I switched mostly to have things in the same ecosystem. Not sure how much the prices differ, but it's Nest, so I can make a pretty good guess ...
"Reduced Motion Sensitivity" is a setting you can enable if your pets are setting off the motion detection. But 100 lbs is a pretty big dog, and that setting states it applies to pets around 40 lbs or smaller. My wife isn't much more than 100 lbs. To adjust my security settings to ignore someone her size would be like saying that I don't mind if a smaller person breaks into my home. You might have to just forego motion detection altogether in certain rooms and just rely on the open/closed status of the sensors.
It's decent, but there's better out there, and the sensors are rip off. Not everybody needs window sensors with the cost off built-in motion sensors that can't be used on windows.
For alarm systems in a house .. Ring > Nest .. love my ring alarm system and much cheaper compared to nest. Ring has a battery powered keypad that can be mounted anywhere on the wall or on a table as well.
That sucks, you controlled my house with your ex of hey Google go to bed. Lol. All my lights turned off. No but thank you for this videos very helpful!! ❤

I did it was great
Good thing I didn't have my headphones any louder than I did. Would love to see a comparison review with it's competitors like Ring and SimpliSafe.

Quite a simple answer and thing to find out. Yes. It all integrates into the Nest app, and communicates. Quite obvious.
1. Nest X Yale lock disarms the alarm when unlocked.
2. Turns any available Nest Cam (1st gen) into record mode whenever the alarm is triggered.
