THE HALFWAY POINT🎉 thanks for watching along yall, and I appreciate all of your thoughtful comments and how much you guys love ATLA. the ENTIRETY of season 1 is available on patreon, and book 2 will begin posting this week! www.patreon.com/sailorkayla
I don’t remember enjoying the pirate episode as a kid as much as I did during your reaction! while 2 and 3 are the blockbusters, book 1 has a really distinct charm that makes me nostalgic
"He recognizes not everyone in the Fire Nation is bad." In this episode an old Fire Nation man vouched for Sokka, a few episodes ago an old Earth Kingdom man sold out Haru. This show immediately dodges the "red shirts bad, other shirts good" simplicity you see in a lot of kids shows.
And throughout the show they show the guards in the fire nation to just be normal people doing their jobs. Obviously there are some soldiers who are shown to be worse than others but for the most part the only bad thing about them is where they were born because it brainwashed them to fight for a bad side.
@@sailorkaylax Katara was ready to let her ruin her whole life, if they didn't find out jets plan, she would have followed him the whole way. Gotta love that first big crush 🤷🤣
It cracks me up that uncle Iroh has the nerve to stop the chase for the avatar, the great menace of the Fire Nation, just to look for a meek, humble white lotus tile for his board game. It comes so random the first time you watch it, but in a second view you finally understand: the white lotus tile was in his sleeve the whole time. Brilliant.
Idk if you noticed but the reason Katara cried a little when she asked Jet where Sokka is, it wasn't because she was heartbroken about Jet it's because since jet will go so far to destory a town along with the people she was afraid what Jet could/did to Sokka
I appreciate your emotional intelligence. So often I’m blown away how little other reactors understand what’s going on. It’s a kids show, they’re not trying to hide the plot too hard, and you’re doing a better job picking up on it than 95% of the reactors I’ve watched.
Katara and Sokka are both great characters with a lot of depth to them, but the real relationship we need to explore is the one between Uncle Iroh and that lotus tile
I play rhythm guitar, and it took me years to master it because it's a unique style of playing. If I teach someone, they will likely learn much faster because they can see me doing it. I also play bass, as there’s a strong connection between the guitar and bass. Katara never saw a waterbender before, so everything she learned was self-taught. In contrast, Aang is a master air-bender , and many of the movements and philosophies in waterbending are quite similar. This familiarity makes it easier for him to learn, especially when he observes Katara. He can incorporate his airbending techniques to enhance his understanding of waterbending.
FINALLY! Jet is probably my (2nd) favorite sokka episode -and while this is definitely a Sokka episode, I actually find Katara's character to be quite interesting in this too. up until this point we've shown Sokka's pessimism to be a bad thing, while Katara's optimism and trust has been what's earned our team most of their victories (i.e. inspiring the earthbenders in episode 6). now the tables are turned, and she gets manipulated into jeopardizing a town due to her eagerness to see the good in Jet. this goes back to a theme you'll see CONSTANTLY in this show - balance!
@@lordleo9047 these characters have SO many layers 🥹 unfortunately I’m just like katara and I think jet’s manipulation would’ve worked on me too lmaooo
I love how sassy Katara is in this episode lol oh btw did you know one of the Pirates got voiced by one of the creators of the show. Oh and like you said in the reaction, I agree the writting of the show is absolutely brilliant! One of the many reasons the show aged like fine wine is because the creators were on the top of their game somehow when it comes to the writting. And thats why this is considered by many to be a timeless masterpiece.
2:36 Yea... it does seem that no matter how much Zuko shouts and yells at Uncle Iroh for wasting time doing stupid stuff, Zuko just seems to go along with with it. 😅😅
Since this is the first time we see Fire Nation civilians, I think it's a good reminder, since I recall forgetting this fact a few times. This is all in Earth Kingdom territory, or thereabouts. Check the map and you'll see the largest chunk of land is the Earth Kingdom. It reaches down south to up north and its the next strongest nation to the Fire Nation. They are currently holding the Fire Nation at bay in the war. In the meantime, the Fire Nation has established colonies, bases and small town occupations. which I guess we also saw in Ep. 06. This town was a mix of native citizens and some Fire Nation folk. Their nation is the crescent archipelago to the west, rather small compared to the other nations.
The similarity of Jet and the FFs to Rufio and the Lost Boys in Hook (Peter Pan) always makes me smile, since Rufio is Zuko, and he isn’t even in the episode.
ATLA is one of those rare properties * where I love almost every character. Watching someone enjoy this show is one of my favourite things to do. ( * Others are: Star Wars OT, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and The Last of Us Part 1 game.)
Loving your videos, by the way, if that wasn't clear. I love hearing your thoughts and feelings about these characters and their relationships. ATLA is funny, emotional, warm, and dramatic... but also cool and exciting.
I think it’s fun you thought Jet and the Freedom Fighters are like Peter Pan and the Lost Boys instead of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Rufio from Hook is Zuko, and he’s not in Jet’s episode. Really appreciate your thoughtful reactions. 😍
I really love that we have complex imperfect characters on both sides of the war in this series. We've obviously heard about some of what the fire nation has done, but Jet's attempt to wipe out an entire town of Earth and Fire nation people is probably the worst thing we've seen on screen.
My biggest pet peeve is reactors saying that Katara did something morally wrong by stealing that water scroll. The pirates probably killed for it and ppl are like: 🤓👆 uhm stealing is bad! Thank god you handled that well 👏
Two wrongs don't make a right. It's not like her intent was to find the original owner and bring it back. Did the pirates have it coming? Probably. That does not mean it's a moral decision.
Zuko isn't really supposed to look like a villain so it's good you don't think of him as a "good villain". He is supposed to be a character you want to switch sides and have a redemption arc. If he does or not, you will have to discover for yourself. Jett is very similar to Zuko, filled with hate because of childhood trauma. As someone who struggles with PTSD which includes moments of pure hate towards certain types of people I understand why Jett is why he is that way. But he was going to wipe out an entire Earth Nation village to take out some Fire Nation soldiers that could have been gotten a different way.
@@lasseehrenreich5502 I can’t imagine how he feels :( but it’s also good to differentiate between right and wrong, even if we can understand why he did it❤️🩹
