Fishing for Redfish Using Cut Bait! Easy Technique

- In this video, I went fishing with my buddy Jason from JC Fishin (@JCFishinCharters) and we were targeting redfish using pinfish as cut bait. Fishing with cut bait is one of the easiest ways to consistently catch redfish, especially during spring and summer. We started the day targeting redfish on a shallow grass flat with potholes at low tide, but then started throwing baits along mangrove shorelines at the higher part of the tide.

Love me some cut pinfish action. I finally got to witness one actually slurp a cut pin right by the boat. He just swam right over it and nonchalantly scooped it up. Before that I never got to see one eat cut bait.

A couple of questions for you. Do you ever freeze your pinfish and used it cut fresh frozen? If so, any difference?
Also, do you ever throw cut bait when you can’t see the sand pockets? Do you get action when you throw it in the grass ever? Meaning you missed the sand pocket or intentionally threw it in a grassy area instead?

I’ve never personally tried freezing pinfish, but I know people who do it and have success with it.
And yes you can cast your bait on grass too. I try to aim for pot holes because I know reds like to sit in pot holes, but you can definitely catch them over grass as well

We fish artificials in TX like 98% of the time…trying to branch out when they just won’t eat artificials 😂
I've tried to freeze bait that I've caught like lady fish or mullet and they turn out mushy when you thaw them. Might need to salt them to draw out some water first.
@@chewielewis4002 Thanks for that! I’m mostly wondering for summertime when it’s so hot here in TX and hard to keep bait alive….tho pinfish are one of the hardiest baitfish and last a couple days at least. I’ll play around with it and see how it goes. Thanks 🙏🏻

I didn’t use a split shot, but JC did. I usually don’t use one unless there’s wind or current that’d move my bait on the bottom
