    What a coincidence, I just ordered some strand cane today to start learning, this video will be very helpful. I hope to not bother but I sent you a message on Fb to ask some questions ( I didn't know how to do it on youtube.) Hope you see it. Thank you

    Thanks! I see that you answer questions so I here's a good one:
    The frame of the rocker seat I am doing is not flat. The sides are curved from front to back with the lowest point being almost an inch below my first step of back to front cane.
    Do I need to remove this first step and start over and leave some slack to accommodate the dip in the seat frame sides?
    Thank you, sir! Great video!!

      run the vertical cane first, which should form the curve, then the horizontal should conform to that!

    Can I start the caning and finish one direction on the whole seat and then leave it and come back another day or has it all got to be done at the same time ?

    Thank you for the great tutorial! Would you have any tips for repairing a hole in a cane back sofa that is over 100 years old? I am hoping I can just add cane to what is already there. Have you ever done anything like that or know if it is possible? I am not sure how I would tie off the cane that I add.

    • @donaldporta
      @donaldporta  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can just add the cane to replace the broken ones, the splice will have to be in a spot that is not seen --- such as the underside or in the hole where the cane comes out.

    Did you soak the binder cane in water like you soaked the other strands? I need to bend the binder cane around a curved corner and concerned about the cane cracking and wondering what you did with your chair in the video.

    • @donaldporta
      @donaldporta  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I soaked the binder cane.

    The cane looks like it's not an even color. Is it a bad batch of cane?
