    Today marks our earliest cruise yet. We are anchors up at 3:30 AM and are transiting the highly trafficked commercial shipping canal... at night. This is all to time the tides and weather to transit the challenging body of water that is the Delaware Bay to Cape May, New Jersey!
    Thanks for watching!
    Cheers from the Loop,
    Jennifer and Elliot

    ABOUT US
    Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
    The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
    Thank you for following us along our journey!

    If you want to know if the auto pilot works, just turn it on auto, and then press +10. If the boat turns 10 degrees starboard, then it’s working.

      that's exactly how it works, it is an automatic pilot, sorta like cruise control on your car only you set a course not a speed...

      @SchoandJo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's pretty much what we did! 😁

    I always found night time cruises to be the best, peaceful,quiet , and the weather is usually calm.

    An auto pilot is a great help when cruising open waters, especially those without numerous crab or lobster pots. Watch the wheel when using the AP and you will notice that it doesn't do a lot of steering adjustments compared to hand steering. Trawlers have rather small rudders and you generally do not get immediate response to turning the wheel a little. Turning back and forth frequently, other than increasing wear on the hydraulics that actuate the rudder, tends to result in a heading that averages out your turns. Try waiting a bit when you turn the wheel to see what course correction it produces before doing more steering.

    I’m not commenting to be ugly or mean, I just have an intense level of care for dogs. They will hurt themselves trying not to pee or poop where they live. A pee pad will theoretically work, but for some house-trained pups, it’s nearly impossible to adjust to. Long periods(24-30+)hours isn’t normal for them in nature. Close cruising friends lost their dog to renal failure and bladder cancer. It may or may not have been caused by the long hours cruising, however they feel terrible thinking they may have caused her to suffer in any way. Something to think about. Ollie is a sweetheart. Love your videos!

      Thanks for your concern! We did check with our Veterinarian before leaving on the trip and she told us that Ollie will go when she needs to go. So sorry to hear about your friends!

    In the future, if you have to travel at night, turn down all your instrument lights, including your tablet and GPS. Turn them down till you can just barely see them. Your eyes will adjust after a few minutes and you will be able to see the water much better.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice to see your progress - I did the trip from Deale to Indian River Inlet in June... The trip down the Delaware Bay was the most miserable 80 miles of my life (small craft advisory the whole way)... The trip back a week later was glassy smooth, fortunately... One doodad I have is a Bluetooth fob for the autopilot - fantastic to be able to just sit back and correct course with a button press on a handheld device... Good luck, and continued safe travels...
