    (1:00) The French law against UFOs is perfectly sound. A UFO is an unidentified flying object. If you're going to fly over that area, you need to be identified, state your intentions and possibly also ask for permissions. Most airports disallow UFOs. When drones became popular, several airports had issues with UFOs, since there was drones in the area that could not be identified.

    Hey! Explanation for the coin law in Canada:
    They made it illegal so that stores can be allowed to refuse to serve you if you come and try to pay a large bill with a large amount of coins. Doing so can take a lot of time and can seriously hinder a shop's service. After several shop owners complained, they decided to make it illegal to do so so that shops can have a way to avoid this problem.
    Of course, that doesn't include bank or governemental services (such as paying a fine) so you can still be petty for that parking ticket you didn't deserve

      @@arx3516 Well, in Hungary we have the same law, as much as im aware only the MTA (Magyar TUdományos Akadémia - or Hungarian Scientific Academy) approved names are allowed to used. No idea about foreign names (but we have hungarian version about pretty much every name used in Europe - for example "István" is the hungarian equivalent of "Stephan"), but i dare to bet this law is only apply if you are hungarian citizen (which theoretically possible for an US citizen, since Hungary allow dual-citizenship and also keep your "new allegiance" in secret because the Ukrainians are persecute every ethically hungarian who ask for hungarian citizenship).
      Also, the MTa publis the requested names every year (and stating to their are approved or not), most of them are very funny ones (or sometime foreign names with no hungarian equivalent - but the MTA usually deny them too)

    This list is weird for two reasons:
    1. It confuses laws on corporations with laws on private individuals. You don't have to play 35 % Canadian artists in private, and you're not committing a crime for not listening to Nickelback.
    2. It's using a lot of Imperial units for an international article. It's fine to still include those (since some people are apparently still hundreds of years behind in adapting the global system), but at least put the metric units that these laws were defined by.

    The hiking naked thing was a trend in the 80s, I think. Back then most people tended to see hiking as a sport where the only goal is to reach the top. Some people disagreed and began hiking naked, which forced them to leave the boring straight paths, allowing them to take joy in the experiance of walking through nature.

      Most of the items on the list are bullshit, so I imagine that one is as well. There's probably some anti-human traffiking law specifically geared against selling children (as in, one law for adults and another one with harsher punishments if the victims is a child) and whoever made the list took that law, left some important details out and made something up, then added it on the list as a "weird law"

    Satellite dishes context in Malaysia
    1) there's only one company running subscription TV services that requires satellite dish, so it's kinda obvious to see who's breaking the law by looking at the roof,
    2) many odd unpermitted China satellite TVs came into Malaysia over the past decade, broadcasting their channel from the boarder, charging a fraction of the subscription from local company, causing financial losses for local company,
    3) serious copyright infringement,
    4) it's a rather new law by Malaysia standard, almost all new laws have that hefty 6 figures fine but the court never been to that far.

    The "holding a fish suspiciously" one is a myth. The actual Salmon Act of 1986 is about poached fish, i.e. "holding" or owning illegally fished salmon, not literally holding fish in your hands in a suspicious manner

    • @exantiuse497
      @exantiuse497 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the "crushing can of beer with your boobs" is fake too. The story was about an Australian woman who worked in a hotel and, among other things, crushed beer cans between her naked breasts on public. She was fined for indecent exposure, there isn't a law specifically for crushing beer cans with your breasts. This isn't even specific to Australia, she would've been fined pretty much anywhere in the world that has laws against showing your private parts in public, including the US

    • @exantiuse497
      @exantiuse497 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And the El Salvador one is just made up. The punishment for DUI in El Salvador is that you lose your license and may lose your vehicle, or go to jail. Maybe you can be executed if you kill someone while driving drunk, idk about that, but you don't automatically end up in front of a firing squad if you get caught DUI, that's completely obvious
      FFS this list is nothing but bs

    The law in WA regarding potatoes actually makes sense.
    For a long time they had (not sure if they still do, its been nearly 10 years since I left the place) rules that set quotas for the growing of potatoes in the state. The intent was to make sure that there wasn't an oversupply or undersupply and that growers were able to get a decent price for their crops.

    Baby names:
    There is no actualy ban by law but you have to register the name at the register office and the the oocie clerk can deny a name. There are regulations and list for that.
    There ar no names allowed that make the child a target to mockery.
    Drunk riding:
    You are not allowed to take part in traffic when you are drunk unless you walk.
    Riding a bike while being drunk can you get a ban on your driver license.

    The salmon law is the UK government's attempt to stop salmon poaching. Because there was difficulty in catching people in the act of actually poaching salmon the solution they came up with was to make it a crime to be in possession of salmon while being suspected of a crime.

They had problems with the elephants of the previous circus, and the beach was apparently closed because of the degradation of the quality of water after elephants were bathed there.
