It seems like everybody that has multiple old school cars and knowledge has obtained that through family. I love Old schools but nobody in my family wrenches,and growing up we were lucky to have one car. so I've learned everything mechanic wise on my own with the help of the internet.
The internet is a great place to get a lot of base knowledge, but I've always been a fan of first hand experience. Even if you fail, just getting out there and doing it is the best way to learn
I feel your pain. Those blue harbor freight Jack's are a pain but when you pull the handle out under a vehicle. You can't get it back down and I had to get another jack to get it from under my car....

Absolutely, the mid 90's early 00's themed stuff is the shit. LS turbo stuff is cool, but it's everywhere. If you're racing, I get it, but everything doesn't HAVE to be an LS. A big or small block Chevy can still hold they're own.

They make these things called transmission jacks that roll around on the floor, for less than $200, that work VERY well in a situation like that. Thought you might like to know lol
Did you realize that you were using a 700r4 instead of a 3 speed? When you tested out your shift cable, you named off the gears “park, reverse, neutral, drive, second and first”. The “kick down cable” which is actually called the TV or throttle valve cable, is what gave it away for me.
I would encourage you to go back and look at the transmission pan. The 700r4 has more of a square pan and th350 has a notched corner of its pan. Also, the th350 has a kickdown cable, its the th400 that has a kickdown switch.
@@SniderTron3000 I see the notched corner of the trans pan now. However I was always under the impression that the 350 and the 400 were controlled by a vacuum modulator while the 700r4 was the one with a TV cable.

MY brother, a transmission jack makes life so much easier, harbor freight has a nice floor transmission jack for cheap
The old floor jack I had had a LOT wider base. A transmission would sit on it no problem. This new one is is like 1/3rd the size lol

I can't remove the trans out my Monte with out removing the headers. Well one at least.
Big Block mounts are different, to move engine toward passenger side about an inch, to help clear steering shaft.
