Not a mic check, that's the way the song starts. Love your reaction to this--heck, I always love your reactions. Your dance moves and smile are infectious!
Just wanted to write the same. And it's clever, it's a perfect song to start a show from the point of view of a band. Even if you done a proper soundcheck, there is always something a little off when you finally go on stage. So it's nice if you got an intro to the first song, where you can do last second adjustments.
@@mrtveye6682 but it's not clever to first listen to live version if you do not know a song... wh nyou don't know how the studio version goes... then always mistakes happening like "what's goiing on...."
@@claudiusmalina1371 I think it doesn't really matter. It's not like she missed something, and she still enjoyed the song quite a lot. Isn't that what music is about?
@@mrtveye6682 she missed a lot not knowing the studio version ;) What i mean is to avoid a wrong input of a song. Most ppl in the world first get a song to listen in the radio or on album, before a band go playing it on tour. This is the natural way. When you do it opposite way, you can miss to understand why something sounds live like that, because you have no comparison and you building a wrong picture in your mind of that song.
@@claudiusmalina1371Art is received and interpreted however the observer wishes. There is no correct way.
I've heard plenty of music for the first time live. It's perfectly correct to do so as much as sitting in a room and listening to a CD.
Hearing recorded music in a fixed format is the aberration in all music history.
MTV.....Music Television........I remember those halcyon days, when we would stay up late in hopes of seeing our favorite bands' videos on MTV. 😆
Mark Knopfler (the lead singer of Dire Straits) was in a department store and overheard some workers talking about the musicians which were on the display TVs and he wrote down their conversation and turned it into this song pretty much worked for word. Great song and the Live Aid version is excellent of course, but you really should watch the original music video for this as it was really ground breaking use of computer graphics back in the day.
If that was word for word they all must have been drunk or on drugs.
Most reactors tend to avoid the music video because in the western world Dire Strait’s use of the word F*ggot isn’t considered appropriate anymore (for better or worse)
I was working delivering color tv's (big tube models..wood cases..heavy) when the song came out and it became the delivery guys theme song
"The guy" in red died few days ago. His name was Jack Sonni and he toured with Dire Straits for the Live Aid and the Brothers in Arms Tour
Bisscute.. thats the way you doin' ..😎😎😎
One of the most iconic guitar riffs all time
Yes
Back when we were kids the phrase…”I want my MTV”…was a commercial MTV put out when cable TV was new, and celebrities would come out and say…”I want my MTV”…people like Billy Idol, Sting from the Police, and they would say…”Call your local cable provider, and tell them..I want my MTV!”
What some people don't realize is that Live Aid would not have happened without Dire Straits. Most act's were not sure if they could commit due to scheduling and other reasons. Dire was already scheduled to play Wembley Stadium on the week of July 13th that year and agreed to play, as long as they got enough time to run over to the other venue later. Other managers of other bands/artists started talking with DS' manager at the time Ed Bicknell, asking if DS was playing Live Aid and should they do the same. This opened the floodgates to the roster of performers agreeing to showing up.
I just come here to listen Bisscute roll her “R’s” no matter where in the word it is … so cute 😅
Still waiting for Sultans of Swing from Alchemy Live - I PROMISE you're going to absolutely love it! Mark Knopfler is my all-time favorite musician, singer and songwriter. He's amazing.
I second this recommendation. You always enjoy watching a live version where the band has fun. The talent on display for this version is top notch!
Honestly, anything from Alchemy Live or better still - everything. One of the best live concerts ever!!
That would get my vote for sure 👍👍, def a stand out epic live performance of sultans of Swing
@@oldshiny3012 The live Alchemy versions of "Once Upon A Time In The West", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Sultans Of Swing", "Tunnel Of Love", "Telegraph Road" and "Going Home" are all brilliant and well worth checking out. Filmed on a single sell-out night at the Hammersmith Odeon on 23rd July 1983, by watching the whole concert you get a sense of the incredible energy levels and sheer indefatigability of the whole band. It's truly an awesome watch!
@@grapeman63 Another little known fact, it is one of the earliest digitally recorded live audio performances, using what was state of the art equipment at that time, the reason the sound is so pristine to this day.. While in those days they had started digital recording in studios, it was still very rarely done at live venues for logistical reasons. For this recording, they used a mobile recording studio built into a large straight truck, originally made for The Rolling Stones, literally known as The Rolling Stones Mobile Unit.
mark knopfler on guitar always amazes, even after all these decades
Once again your smile says it all. I remember watching Live Aid in 1985 and recording as much as I could on VHS tape. Little did I know then that nearly 40 years later we’d still be watching these performances time and time again.
Well said, for our generation, it's like a miracle. Lol.
That "I want my MTV" thing is part of the full length version of the song - it's a long intro, which really builds the tension for when the song actually starts. It's awesome.
Yes, U2s live aid performance of Bad is legendary
Thank you Mrs biss for the trip down memory lane the song dire strates has is money for nothing and sting the polices next song is every breath I take. Bon Jovi other song is called runaway..💯👍🤟😌😉🥴😋😛😝😜🤪🥱🥺
You should watch the original just to see the video. It was pretty groundbreaking at the time.
Step 1: Listen to the song from the studio album AND read the lyrics with it.
Step 2: Watch the video
Step 3: Watch the band play it live.
@@Stogie2112Their 1990 Knebworth performance with Eric Clapton is probably the best live version of this song I’ve heard.
@Stogie2112 or let people enjoy music however they choose.
@@DMBFAN90 ….That goes without saying. 😃 We all have our preferences.
Imagine that 1985 no auto tune, just great live music 🥰
Well, maybe no "autotune" outside studios lol
when started all this autotune-software plugins, i think in 1998
It was 1996
@@stefankrautz9048 I wrote "autotune" because there was a lot of ways to achieve the same effects. It required a studio... not a VST
Jethrotull please, there are two song epic.... Aqualung and Locomotive Breath.... the singer is Ian Anderson also have unique voice and the best flute player at that time.
6:43 it was Jack sonny. He did die last month.. it's sad.. 😢 we will miss him.. that was one of the best money for nothing live performance..
Bisscute, lettting her down and getting wild. 😍 😍
From the 1980's when MTV showed music videos. We had the Headbanger Ball on Saturday nights. Miss those days.
Another LiveAid reaction . Even better it's some live Dire Straits. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I know I'm going to. Thank you Biss, this will make my day!
This one song might make you sad or cry...... Hopefully, it might lift your spritis as it did for me. This song saved my life.
It is called "The Pass" by the Canadian group Rush.
I too want my MTV. I miss headbanger ball🤟🤟🤟
absolute BANGER of a song, fun reaction
It's amazing how many people want money for nothing.
If you have enough money and you let the money „work“ -that’s really money for nothing
Sting sang on the original recording and it starts out the exact same way., including the drum part--Biggest MTV hit of the year..HEAVY rotation..the song made the station more popular (They'd use it for thier ads ), while the LP was a great comeback from Dire Straits after many critics had written them off. (Thier previuos 2 LP's hadn't sold well) The spirit of playing for our farmers at Live Aid was mos def a "Performance Booster" for all the artists there, it's a ugly shame how even today, U.S. farmers are struggling to survive while our government gives them no help..
Sting has some cahones standing in front of 100,000 people and belting out that intro! Great performance for a new release.
The guy in the red coat is called Jack Sonny. Unfortunately he passed away a few days ago.
Mark Knopfler is one of the most original and genius guitar players. Great song writer. Check out Sultans of Swing by them live if you want, thr drumming is phenominal.
MTV (Music Television) started it ALL back in the early 80's with music videos and their VJ's (not DJ's) the original reactors! This song was one of the biggest hits on the channel!! Then came the MTV movie awards, then reality tv started with them, then came the MTV unplugged with Pearl Jam and many other bands!! That's why they're singing "I want my MTV"
Love the hair 😍 💕
P.S.- The music video that played on MTV with heavy rotation back in the day was twice as nice, Bisscute.
Lovely smile had you enjoyed it
Отлично спели ребята, молодцы! Заслуженные аплодисменты! Им хочется подпевать. Спасибо ведущей с красивой родинкой за хорошие комментарии!❤
Watch the Music Video for this ! this is how MTV came on to the Air for the First Time with this song. When MTV was Music TV not reality BS that it is now
You HAVE to react U2 at Live Aid, Bono jumped from the stage and saved 3 girls from getting crushed to death against the barriers by the crowd. The band didn't miss a beat and he danced with the 3 girls!! They changed their whole show right in the middle because of this!!!
Written by Sting and Mark Knopfler. Music is based in the chords of Synchronicity 2. Lyrics are 90% from Mark Knopfler based on what he saw in New York City. Great song 👍
Released in 1985. In that same year, Sting recorded an album for himself and sang a song with Phil Collins for his album. Sting was busy as a bee 🐝 L 🤣L
Suggested videos 📹: 1 Phil Collins and Sting sing Take Me Home. 2 The Police performs Synchronicity 2💓 3 Mark Knopfler and Randy Newman perform It's Money 💰 That Matters.
Haha. Sting invites Jack Sonni to join in because Sting is basically singing his bit that he'd do in a normal show.
From U2 you really need to see All I Want is You/ Where Street have no name, live at Slane Castle.
Money for nothing was the first Video on MTV
twisting by the pool is a great summer song
Love the fact of your reaction, waiting
A great song and band! I love to see you dance 😊
The singer in the white shirt is Sting he was brought out to help with this song as a special guest.
Right, the studio version IS better, but Dire Straits always had SO much fun with their music, it's a pleasure to watch them live. Thanks for your reaction.
good Song i like Dire Straits 🤗
This was their biggest commercial hit, but the song that I think is best for them is Brothers in Arms.
Got it
I love this song 🔥 one of the best riffs of all time 🔥🔥🔥
Sting is a lead single called Police. U may listen a song as Every breath you take
I might know that song
I like this classic songs... thx for reaction
Please, I would love to hear Sadé from this concert ❣️And more from Sinéad 🇮🇪
VHey mrs biss its my favorite to living on a prayer.and runaway. Off first album.❤❤it was the best 7 mins.😊❤❤
You give the most natural, enjoyable, honest, and entertaining reactions; love it!
Super Groups in the evening ... Ok ... but who got the crowd going at the start ? - Status Quo - Don’t Waste My Time (Live Aid 1985) - you have to give these boys a listen ... famous at least 5 years before Queen ... proper British Rock ... no messing about !
I was 12 when Live Aid took place. It was a HUGE broadcast event, on both TV and radio. It was a who's who of pop music royalty, with colabs all over the place. This was at a time where MTV was actually a MUSIC channel. Phil Collins had a unique position at this event. It was two events on the same day, one in Wembley, London, opening with a career topping Queen. They came out the gates and got the crowd HYPED, which carried on the rest of the day with all the other acts. Phil played Wembley, then flew to the US via Concorde, then played the US concert in the same day.
Check out the following bands, THE POLICE, YES, 10CC, ELO, SPARKS and Hawkwind /Hawklords.
delightful reaction.
Devil Baby by Knopfler(the lead singer and guitarist) is a must.
As a man from the 90s sting will forever be tommys dad
Watched the whole thing on TV as a young one with my dad, thought it was great
Check out U2's performance at Live Aid. Bono was awesome.
You must react to "Sultans of Swing" Alchemy live 1984. Simply awesome!
BEAUTIFIL!!!!!
Biss, so the reason Sting is singing on this is because allegedly the story goes. Mark Knopfler wrote this song and it sampled The Police (Sting) song Don't Stand So Close To Me. Specifically the "I want my MTV" part. So Mark called up Sting to ask permission and Stings answer was yes, under one condition. That he got to sing back up vocals on it. So if you haven't listened to The Police song you should and see if you can hear the similarity.
Oh?
First song / video to be played on MTV 😊
Oh, no! I mean, yay, I'm excited that you're doing this song, but looks like you did the live version, and as someone else has already said, you should see the original music video. It's a classic, and while probably pretty cheesey now, the effects were pretty new and mind blowing at the time.
Also, I don't know how familiar you are with Weird Al Yankovic, if you're not, he's a musician and comedian that's famous for doing parody cover versions of famous songs. In the 80s he even had a movie called "UHF", which is very Weird Al. So if you like him, the movie is hilarious, though it does reference a lot of movies and cultural stuff that you might not be as familiar with. In the movie, he does a parody of this song and the original music video that's based on "The Beverly Hillbillies" which was a TV show in the 60s. You can find a clip of it if you don't want to see the movie. Just look up Weird Al, Money For Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies.
Oh, yeah. Please also do "Sultans of Swing"!
The thing about the Weird Al parody - is if you aren't familiar with the Beverly Hillbillies (which was often in syndication on UHF stations..... ) then I don't know that it brings the punch as those of us that were stuck with 3-5 channels growing up and Beverly Hillbillies was just something you couldn't avoid if you were watching anything.
@@JeffMartinEquinox I hear you, but what are you going to do?
Every new generation that comes to know the all the fantastic music I grew up with puts a huge smile in my heart. I have loving memories of this song because my 6 year old daughter turned me onto it when I came home from a Med cruise with the Navy back in '85! Cheers....
Dire Straits. One of the great bands back then. The whole album was incredible. Whoever hasn't heard it all should give it a listen.
there is a strange thing here! sting is singing the intro, but it is to the tune of his own song ... " don't stand so close to me!" hehe, once you hear it you can not deny it! big love to all people :)
Wild Theme (Live at Nimes)... Soo good song and emotive. The original song is different
"My hair has to be wild for this guys!"....This is why Biss is the Pokemon Reactor. 😀
Haha
Thank you. Make my day.
You have the best chill reacts
That's not a mic sound check, that's how the song starts. :)
It's the beginning of the song
Oh man, music was good when I was young!
Oh Miss Bisscute you are certainly the best looking chair boogie dancer …
Hahaha, have you been told lately how bloody adorable and hilarious you are? Another great reaction!
Great reaction to one of my all time favourite songs. My I suggest your next Dire Straits reaction to be Sultans of Swing.
This is when MTV actually played music. I saw the first broadcast of MTV and really enjoyed that era, before they went to reality TV.
MTV also aired this concert live as it happened. Although some songs were cut due to commercials.
I grew up watching 80's music videos on MTV when that was all MTV did, great times.
Yeah!!! U2!!!
Dire Straits Sultans of Swing Alchemy Live!!! I promise you will love this song! Especially this live version!! 🙂🙂
Yes.Yes.Yes! A fantastic version and the Alchemy Live concerts were the first live concerts to be digitally recorded so the sound quality is excellent.
i was there! brilliant
Been waiting for you to do this ❤ mmm. U2 I think most Lady's really like In the name of love ❤️
He already changed the lyrics for the Live Aid version. Interesting. I always thought the lyrics got changed much later with a shorter "radio friendly" version of the song.
greetings people great video as always greetings from Uruguay ❤😊
One thing that strikes me about this, apart from the fact it is a great performance is: When you have Sting (a legend in his own right) singing your backing vocals you know you have really made it lol
Thank you.
Awesome! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Live Aid was a multi-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, as well as a music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, a movement that started with the release of the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984. Billed as the "global jukebox", Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people.
Hey Biss nice reaction video Biss
Ahhhh I love this performance ❤❤❤❤ Thank you for reacting to it 😊😊😊
This was the anthem of a young nation.... 35+ years ago... Thanks B
one of the most unique guitar playing styles
Sultans of swing is a Dire Straits classic
Mark Knopfler, the Dire Straits' lead wrote and performed the soundtrack for a great movie called "Wag The Dog" starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro, worth checking out on your other channel.
Love your moves and how you get into the music. So fun to watch you. Keep the videps coming Bisscute.
