I think Billy was comparatively more mature than most of the other candidates. He understood that nobody’s perfect, and that no one can really be the wizard’d champion. However, through his growth in the movie, we see him embrace his faults and overcoming it.

My favorite part is how Freddy says most people wish to be invisible. Later he tells Billy he is invisible to him and everyone else when Billy let's him down. I think Freddy subconsciously makes his invisibility a sorta power to not feel powerless. Then when he gets the Shazam powers he instantly flies. Showing he is actually powerful if they see him for who he really is.
I think Captain Sparkle Fingers is a reference to Thor Ragnarok when the Grandmaster tells Thor he didn't see any lightning but he did see some sparkles coming out of his fingers.

In fact, Marvel was so jealous of the Shazam success that they decided to use the name Captain Marvel name for themselves. The Captain Marvel comics didn't became popular. In the next coming decades after 1972, especially during the 90's the Shazam comics slowed down but it maintained its relevancy. Captain Marvel was never a hard hitter in Marvel but in the 2000s, it gained traction.
I saw this the day it came out and it exceeded my expectations. My favorite scene was when Billy walks into a store in full costume and asks where the beer was. Can't wait for the Black Adam solo movie and Shazam 2! The best way to describe this movie is "Superman meets Big".
I think Billy Batson would have given into the eye of sin. I think the idea is that the council thought they found the perfect champion, but he wasn't perfect and he betrayed them. So they spent however many years looking for someone completely flawless, completely perfect, but the thing is... the perfect person doesn't exist! And they never will. Nobody is perfect and no life is perfect but you can't worry about that and you just have to work with what you got. I think it's a great message for the film considering Billy's flawed family life, Freddy's disability, and Dr. Sivanas rich but abusive family. It's not about what you have, it's about what you do with it.

Well Billy didn’t get tested at first because the eye was already gone, at the end when he takes it away from Doctor Sivana he starts to hear the whispers and gets tempted, but just shrugs it off and makes a joke lol thus proving his worthiness because technically he did get tempted, I just think he was strengthened by his experiences in this movie that made it easier to deny the eye of sin, cause damn he just saw what it could cause lol
I don't think Thad would have been good cause he didn't have good people around him, and I think Billy would have been tempted in that point in his life but he learned to be better because of his family.
When Sivana gets cut by the Batarang I thought about the quote Batman says to Superman in BVS "Can you bleed?" Batman in that scene was holding a Kryptonite spear to Superman and cut his cheek to reveal that he isn't invulnerable and can be beat. Same in this scene with Shazam.

I think he saw the purity in Billy that, despite his faults, would allow him to become a good champion and a genuine hero. The Seven Deadly Sins had made their escape with Sivana, but if the wizard had just "settled" for the next candidate who came along, he could be just throwing more fuel on the fire or worse, creating a second Black Adam. And note at what point the wizard selected Billy. It was only after he stood up for his foster brother Freddy by taking on two bullies who had him outclassed in terms of size and strength alone. Had Billy walked away and left Freddy to take a beating, I doubt the wizard would want anything to do with him. But since Billy behaved like a hero in that moment, stepping in to help the defenseless Freddy, that could well be what alerted the wizard to Billy Batson as the best candidate to become the champion of Shazam. Remember that the wizard didn't say, "I call upon you" or even "I settle for you". He said, "I choose you." True, it would have been better if he had found Billy sooner, before Sivana freed the 7 Sins, but better late than never. To make a short story long--No, Billy would never be tempted by the Eye of Sin. It goes against all that he is.

It’s really important that Billy didn’t want the powers. Humility is something that you loose as soon as you realize you have it. The fact that he didn’t think he was worthy is a good indicator that he was just that.
