Nevermind my comment in the build-out video - i see you are using a Norwegian Tiller. Having done a ton of building and sailing these nifty little rigs, please allow me to offer some hopefully helpful suggestions:
    1) Move the helm position to midships for boat trim. Having the bow so high is making it into a wind vane, but in the opposite direction you want it to be. Level flat is normal, but even being a bit stern-high is okay. it sets the fwd lines into the water to grab more traction in tacking up wind, allowing the stern lines to be the wind vane tail - pointing down wind. Makes turning three hulls easier.
    2) Add a mast partner fwd, closer to the fore deck. This will allow more room for you in the middle, and you will be able to sheet the boom so it swings over you without you having to duck so low. better vision, too. By pulling the boom back towards the mast, the fwd end will clear the boat and there should be no interference. There is no rule that says you need to have the boom level. Positiong the mast fwd will also help in keeping the bow down for easier tacking. Look at the Polenesian boats.
    3) If the boat drifts to leeward when trying to sail to weather, you have to move the leeboard fwd until that corrects. Establish the Center of Effort on that particularsail, set the Fwd edge of the leeboard directly under thatCenter, ans experiment from there. Should be evident within a few minutes.
If the boat drifts to leewrd, there is too much sail ahead of the board, so you close the gap between the leeboard and the Center of Effort by sliding the board FWD. If the boat wants to turn upwind quickly when you drop the tiller, you have too little sail ahead of the board. Slide it back until the boat sails straight with no hands on a beam reach. Or, just a bit of upwind bias, so it will turn and stop if you fall out.
    Lovely job you did.

It is hard to sail with so many trees blocking and shifting the winds, thumbs up captain!

It really was. Hardly any wind at all that day. Thanks for watching...

Hi , great video and outriggers! How did you decide to go with one or two outrigger pontoons? If if it was to rowed or power with a small outboard would you still go with two pontoons?

I went with two because that's what was on the plans I bought lol I can still paddle and built a jig to use a small electric motor on the side.

I can say from years of experience that leaving the sail rig home and just using the boat as a fishing platform is fantasic with either one or both riggers. Far more stable than my 14ft Smokercraft when standing to fight a fish. Absolutely no rocking. You can even build a lightweigh platform that can be added as you wish.

How fast can you sail with your sail canoe?

  • @terryhagan7694

looks like the sail has not got the power you need, also the floats are always in the water, they should be a few inches above the water, at the moment they are creating drag

I agree with the sail; it wasn't a windy day at all. This was just a trial run to get the puppy wet. Other than that we're very pleased with the results.
