Homemade Plywood Sailing Boat FULL BUILD, My Goat Island Skiff

A compilation of the 30 weeks I spent building my Goat Island Skiff . Yes, a plywood sailing boat full build!
from lofting to cutting and coating the panels with epoxy to all the woodwork and and finishing like marine Varnish and enamel painting.
You can also see how I made my carbon spars using old windsurf masts.
laminated rudder and daggerboard process is briefly shown here too.
And of course, some cool sailing moments.
This is my first plywood boat building so this is NOT a tutorial on how to build the GIS, it's just how I built it a homemade plywood sailing boat...my way.

What a great build! I built a Goat Island Skiff about 10 years ago and it has been a very faithful friend ever since! From solo sailing, to island camping with a couple of friends, to sailing with the family, it has been just right for me. A wise man once told me that the amount of fun you have on a boat is inversely proportional to its size. This is very true of the Goat Island Skiff. The fact that it takes 15 min. to rig and can be launched and recovered so easily by a single person means that you’ll never hesitate to take it out even for just an hour long rip in a stiff breeze. Thanks for sharing your build. I wish you many years of fun with this beautiful boat!

You almost pointed out all the reasons why I chose the GIS! It's such an versatile boat, hard to beat!
And my GIS lives 10ft from the water at all times, so I only have to put the mast up and I'm sailing in 5 minutes!

@@TheBoatRambler I own a 34 foot sailboat, I raced sailboats before I bought that ocean dweller, I've crossed the Gulf of Mexico under sail, I've seen many sailors make mistakes... I didn't see much in the way of mistakes when I watched your video. I'd gladly sail tough oceans with your skill level if you also understood that your skills are not something you can abandon on high water. You really are a natural. It's evident. I wasn't blowing smoke.

I did sail a lot of different boats, Optimists, 420, Laser, small wooden dinghies all the way to 6 Ton traditional wooden boats, but I don't consider myself an expert in any of them! Never spent long enough in one "class" to really dominate the boat.
Until I started getting my Skippers licenses I had never sailed a cruiser. And now that I finally have the Ocean Skipper license... that's the next class I want to tackle! 😁
