    After watching guys "drop engines" and take intake manifolds off - I'm happy to see that you say this can be done by just reaching around the right side! Great camera work to show what the back looks like. THANKS!

    I changed my plugs and wires today on my 2007 Grand Caravan 3.8L engine. Do it when your engine is cold as you do have to do a lot of reaching around to get at cylinders 1, 3 and 5. I bought a small tube of dielectric grease because the grease package that comes with the new wires is very small. If your new wires are not numbered, like mine, and you are only changing the wires one at a time, the longest is for #2 cylinder (23.9"), next longest is #1 cylinder (on the back, 23.7"), then #3 on the back (20.7"), then #4 on the front (20.6"), then #6 on the front (16.7"), and finally #5 on the back is shortest (14.8"). I fastened a mirror onto a stick so I could see with a flashlight back where 1, 3 and 5 are, and you just feel a lot with your hand back there. Used a little silver anti-seize on the spark plug threads. A vacuum cleaner was handy to suck out small rust particles that were produced at the mouth of the plug opening when I removed the old spark plugs, although I could only do this effectively at 2, 4 an 6. Pretty hard to get the vacuum nozzle back to 1, 3 and 5.

      adapt a piece of smaller dimension garden hose to existing vacuum hose or the like what ever you got that's flexible just stick a rag into gap where joining hoses and duck tape it up and you will have more suction its a good idea you had who knows what could have fallen in there thanks

      You can take the windshield wiper assembly off. It takes a little more time, but it makes doing the rear plugs a little bit easier.

    I replaced spark plug and wires without removing wiper cowling and it wasn't that difficult over all. the only thing because you can't see on back so I put new plugs immediately after removing old one at a time because you have to go with sense only.
    Thank you for video !

    Doing mine tomorrow because I'm changing the intake manifold gasket (common Caravan source of coolant leak) and O2 sensor (failed) anyway. I'll take the wiper cowl off for more room. The best part of owning a Caravan is making sure your tools don't get lonely like they did when I drove a Toyota.

    A few thoughts: 1) When you begin loosening the plug, for every 1/4 turn loose, tighten 1/8 turn until the plug rotates freely, perhaps the first 2-3 full turns out. This keeps you from breaking or galling several of the threads in the aluminum head. 2) Use some anti-seize on the new plugs.

    • @3RTracing
      @3RTracing 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a very good procedure. When removing or replacing a threaded device always go back and forth to reduce sticking and galling. Do the same when cutting threads. A turn forward, and then go back to break off chips, and reduce galling and thread spalls.

    I have one of these Dodge minivans. The wiper cowling is designed to be removable so as to allow easy access to the back of the engine. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to remove it. Replacing the rear plugs is much easier with the cowl removed.

    Just did a tune up on a 1998 Chrysler Grand Voyager minivan with a 3.3 litre V6 engine. Did all the wires and the spark plugs, used a stubby ratchet for loosening the one in the back of the engine and a palm ratchet to get it out. I used anti seize on the spark plugs and the dielectric grease on the wires.

    Good video ,thank you, the only thing is , i would be worried have the spark plugs hole empty for a while, what happens if by accident something small falls in the hols , maybe it is just me, i like to change them one at the time and i know it is done safe.

  • @DaddyMo444
    @DaddyMo444 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Decent video,direct & to the point.Rather vague though if a person didn't already know atleast a little about what they were doing.I hadn't changed plugs on a van of this year & body style,so I was curious to find out how bad the back 3 plugs would be to access.Also to each their own,but I was taught,& I preach this to my kids when teaching them basic auto mechanics.You never use power tools on spark plugs.Especially on the ones you can't see.It doesn't take very much sideways pressure to break that porcelain. Dude seems to know what he's doin though, I was shocked to see someone else using the old plug wire boot trick.
