    Thank you so much for sharing this! My oldest will be doing biology next year and I love this idea way more than actual dissections!!

    THANK YOU!!!!! My daughter has never liked the idea of dissections, and with us being vegans there was a huge ethical issue for us. Love all your videos, but this one will make our lives so much easier!

      We aren’t vegan but I think it’s wrong to kill them for no good reason! I’m so glad this video helped you!

    I know this is 2 yes old, but I’m so glad I found it! My son will be in 9th next year, so I’m on the hunt for a good, Christian based biology course. Thank you!

    Thanks for sharing the paper model dissection kits! Life saver❤

    Thanks for this! I have a middle schooler. She’s NOT looking forward to dissection, so this will be perfect! Would love to see a follow-up video on your thoughts after she completes this year’s science, or at least the dissection modules.
    Would you please share the info on the paper craft website you mentioned? I’m really curious to check it out. I have crafters in our homeschool that enjoy hands-on learning. I don’t do well with this.

      Hey, Becky! I had to dig through to find this video. We’re finally at this point in our homeschool journey. So glad I remembered you shared this.
      Coming back to check it out, but had the same question... could you share the resource for the paper crafts you mentioned in the video? I’d love to check it out.
      Thanks, again. 🥰

    Thanks for this video! We use Apologia and my daughter will be in high school next year and doing Biology. Neither if use wanted to have to do dissection. I will be checking out these kits!

    What do you plan to do for the microscope labs?

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! For the microscope lab, the Apologia book seems to have a pretty in-depth section on the parts and uses of a microscope. I can also probably find videos on TH-cam.

    This is so awesome!! I agree that this is more educational. I love the way we can learn while respecting God’s creatures! The dissecting has already been done to get the information, I love this idea! Thanks for sharing!!

      So far, so good. She's only 3 modules in so I don't have a complete review yet and I probably won't until fall of this year. I just don't think she's going to get through enough of it before our school year is over to make a formal review video. That being said, it's working as well as any science curriculum would. So far, it's challenging, thorough and requires very little work on my part. It's a very student-led course which is nice. I would recommend getting the student workbook even though you don't technically need it. Also, when grading, be careful because I've found a few errors in the answer key. I hope that is somewhat helpful. :)

    If you have a child not wanting to actually do the dissections you can also pull up you tube and watch them. I like the paper crafts ideas too!

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that was my original plan but when I found these, I really wanted her to be able to have a more interactive way to do the dissections. It's nice to have options! :)

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm really not sure. If possible, you might want to speak to the college and find out what their requirements are.

    When you buy these do they send them to you or do you print them off yourself

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would need to print them out yourself but there are color and black-and-white versions.

    So I got this..apogia creation biology third edition and we have no microscope. How do we do the experiments if we don't own a microscope? I've been looking online for the experiments but haven't found what I'm looking for. Has anyone else ran into this? It looks like its no longer on their website either

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure. You haven't been able to find any TH-cam videos about the coordinating experiments? We found quite a few and the other labs she did as part of our homeschool co-op.

    This is awesome! My kids are young so we have time before dissections but this is a relief! I hated dissecting all those animals in high school and in college. It was horrible. And gross and stinky. This is a really cool alternative.

  • @kellyalbertson257

    Will that count for college?

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally think she will learn more from this method than an actual dissection and I'm going to count it as a lab. I'm also going to have her take the CLEP test after completing this course in which she will, hopefully, test out of college Biology. Either way, since I am creating her transcript and I feel it's a valid form of dissection, I will be counting this as her Bio lab. Each family will have to make their own decision about whether or not they feel it's a sufficient lab.

  • @alexafillinger291
    @alexafillinger291 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    When it comes to SAT/ACT, will you be teaching the scientific methods as well so she will be able to pass the tests the way they are administrated? This is assuming she choose a career path that requires college I suppose!

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      She will also be going through the CLEP testing process and anything that's on that test, which includes topics/beliefs taught in public school, will be on that test so I feel she will be prepared.

    • @aplacetonest

      Yes, they are optional with Apologia but our graduation requirements call for a Biology lab. 😬

      @@aplacetonest my understanding is you can count the lab while doing all the reat of the labs and just leaving out the dissections...love the idea of an option to do the learning without the ick!
