Vershawn Anderson No, it's because for the expensive price tag you get completely shit audio quality. If you buy the same $300 price tag headphones but by sennheiser or audio technica you will be blown away by the difference. Beats quality would be fine if they were $150 like they should be. The pair of Audio Technicas I have for $170 sound incredibly better than the beats I have. I don't use my beats anymore either, my gf does.
Doesn't this experiment also just prove that people are more succumbed to bass and "loudness"? Also speaks for the success of the loudness war that has been going on lately.
Michael Melville Not directly, true, but what I meant was that people tend to prefer heavy bass music and "loudness" - despite the actual level of quality.
Arch Absolutely correct. It's well known in psychoacoustics that when something is perceived as slightly louder, we also perceive it of higher quality. It has to do in part with the fact that the frequency response of our hearing changes with the level of volume. This is displayed in the famous Fletcher-Munson loudness curves. Stereo salesman back in the 80s (and even today for car soundsystems) would make sure that the system they WANTED to sell was just a little louder and with a modified EQ with a slight bass bias-not so much that the customer would notice-but just enough so that it sounded a little better. The same holds true with Beats headphones. They have a (not-so-slight) bias to the low-end frequency region, which in turn, allows us to turn the headphones up a little more than normal (because high-end frequencies are more fatiguing to the ear and more damaging than low-end ones), and the slight increase in volume tricks the inexperienced listener to believe that they are of higher quality. That said, I can name $50 headphones off the top of my head that (to anyone who has listened to more than Apple white earbuds) that also maintain a slight bass-bias that 99% of people would have said sounded better than the Beats. Sadly, when doing this experiment, I didn't take what is above into consideration, used the Philips (which while good for rock and jazz, aren't great for pop or electronic) and thus the results favored the Beats (largely). If I could redo it (and I might), there would be a much favored result to opposing cans that (too) have a slight bias (though not as much) as Beats and perform better in a wider set of genres.
Michael Melville Actually it does. The loudness wars kills fidelity in favor of loudness. Certain instrumentation and dynamics just vanishes. Beats takes the bass end and increases the definition of the beat. This might make the song sound more clear for songs that are EDM, rap, rhythm and bass (Drake, Kanye West, Beyonce, Rihanna) and modern metal. If they were listening to Tori Amos on her piano, one might not hear the piano wearing Beats. If one was listening to modern Metalica, one would think the only instruments on the song were the bass guitar and bass drum with either headphone due to the loudness wars.
More bass != better sound quality. The goal of headphones should be accurate sound reproduction. If you want more bass, that is what an equalizer is for.
+chasenallimcam Should be, but speakers will always have their own sound signature. And people can't be bothered with the EQ/don't know how/their device doesn't have one.
+chasenallimcam I always tell people who want bass to get either a JVC HA-MR77XX + FiiO E12/Cayin C5 or JVC HA-SZ2000 + FiiO E12/Cayin C5. Nothing beats those in bass amount. I personally want to listen to the music though, not just the bass. So I got myself a pair of Sennheiser HD800 's
TechnoStickmen Excellent headphone :). The sound signature isn't quite my thing, but the sound quality is awesome! But.. You have the X5 (DAP) and the E17 (amp). Then why are you talking about an X3 DAP..? Also, while the K712 is obviously a high quality pair of headphones, it's not going to satisfy die-hard bassheads, sadly.
They don't make bad headphones yes, but there are lower end headphones that they make that have less sound quality than the high end ones (of course). They should have used headphones that are the same price as the Beats headphones.
+TopeA8 Oh dear god..you can spend 1$ on a fucking tshit and you can spend 100$ on a fucking tshirt. Its still a tshirt, but the 1$ one looks shitty and the 100$ does not..
BPGZ There are certain FIXED parameters on how human beings can perceive anything. We can only see certain spectrums, we can only hear certain frequencies. So it gets to a certain point...where it doesn't matter how good the technology is, you won't be able to detect certain things. $200 is probably around the price mark....where currently you can achieve some of the best sound quality there is for headphones. You will find that a $10,000 headphone is not getting you 50 times the quality. In other words...there gets to a certain point, where you are literally just wasting your money....and this goes for many products out there. There are also headphones for example that are $50 that are better than $250 headphones. So my point to you...was not to go ahead and buy a $1 headphone..but to be aware, that splashing money is not necessarily equivalent to quality. Now obviously there are other things that the luxury brands can play around with...such as the materials, the moulding, the packaging, the weight, the finishing, customization etc....but a $2000 headphone is not really adding too much "sound" value on top of the $200, $300 range. It's just marketing. but it's not even just the luxury brands..even the $100, $200 headphones have a lot of overkill. Some of their frequency ranges are not detectable by human ears.
TopeA8 i know. Its the same as my shirt example isnt it? 1$ can have the same quality as a 40$ shirt. Style and all the things you say is it what makes it worth 40$ for some people. This all time discussion about which one is better...let the people buy what they want to buy. If a friend comes and say "look at my new 300$ headphones" i dont say "oh you stupid fuck you could buy the same quality for less money". He has the money, hey can buy it. None of my business
+KoreanJoker rekoJnaeroK V-moda has great sound but the build quality is not great, they are also over priced. If you want durability with great sound i suggest House of Marley. i use V-moda for gaming and Marley for music and movies.
Compared my £70 Sennheiser HD 518s to my brother's £120 Beats Solos and can clearly see how messy the Beats are in the bass, mids AND highs. And i just want to say the Sennheisers are the most comfortable headphones i have every worn and would recommend them to anyone.
+Teknium only the high end philips headphones are better for his experiment they should have compared sennheiser headphones (ranging from 150 - 200) against the beats, then they should have seen the reaction
I think you're saying that because you used the beats SOLOS. They're shit but it's a completely different story when it comes to the studios. Try them before you say Sennheiser is better
+FB Games I hav tried both solos and studios Studios are any day better no doubt But overall if we see sennheiser is better But again it depends on which model u r taking
Yet one is cheaper and clearly better and provides clearer sound. Any artist that actually monitors using beats is a joke; the advertisements are a ploy.
Audio Technicas are mainly focused on the sound quality and don't focus on the looks as much as beats, and beats focus on packaging and fashion more than the quality.
Agreed. if they had used something by Bose, Audio Technica, Sennheiser or even some Sony sets, it would have been much more polarizing. Also, I think something besides electronic music should have been used. Consider using classical, acoustic, vocal/choral and rock/metal.
mharting92 bose is just as bad as beats, really. Just another consumer-hyped headphone that isn't all that great. Ever hear the slogan, "no highs, no lows?"
mharting92 Brands mean nothing, the philips uptown are pretty good headphones for the price. I Personally tested quite a few headphones in a place that sepecially sells headphones, and most sennheisers were worse than the new beats studio. the sennheiser momentum sounded congested and overly warm, the hd400's series wasnt at all that great, the only ones there that sounded pretty good were the hd598 but they aren't very bassy. I personally own a sennheiser amperior and i do not think it is superior to the new beats. It's less comfy, thats for sure, and the soundstage is very flat... I'm talking about the new and improved version of beats though, the old ones were definitely overly bassy and did not sound great at all, and i assume that's what got them their reputation as being overpriced junk. It might still be overpriced nowdays but they definitely improved it imo. Long story short what I'm trying to say is that you should use your own ears to decide and not go by brands and what people say, because everyone has their own preferences, their own favorite music genres, and even experienced audiophiles can not tell you what headphone will be perfect for you, it's all up to your own personal experience.
***** No, i believe you are mistaken on that one. you see minecraft is a video game made by the swedish company mojang. while gay, or being gay is a sexual orientation, typically used to discribe men who are gay but means any animal who is sexually attracted to another animal that is the same species and gender. so do you see the diferance here, one is a video game the other is a sexual orientation.
Well if I can add my two cents - I used to hate on Beats for being overpriced and not that good, without really ever actually trying them. Then my dad got a pair while he was on a business trip in America, and they are currently mine in all but name. They're fantastic. Great sound quality, or at the very least better than any headphones I ever owned before, and they work wonders as noise blockers. And not to mention they look fairly cool. I still think they're really fucking overpriced though, seriously.
Have you ever tried any other pair of headphones before Beats? If I had never had Pizza in my whole life and then some guy from New York gave me a slice, I would also think that that guy's Pizza is the best in the whole damn planet.
Kami K That largely depends on personal preference. If you like bass more over details and middle and high range, then in the same price range Beats is ok for you. But if you listen to music and want to get more details and a better balanced sound, Beats is shit. I would recommend you to try some other headphones in the same price range, there are way more headphones that has similar bass performance with Beats and they do a much better job in other aspects.
Okay so the experiment shows that people liked the beats when compared to that specific pair of headphones by Philips, that is all. Do this for 1000 people and maybe you can get accurate results to see which pair people liked more, not to mention that it depends on the person and the song being played. Some songs probably sound better than others to people.
***** you didn't have to write a 5 paragraph essay, how can one pair of Philips headphones that are probably low-end, determine which brand is better quality? (The Beats in the video are high-end btw).
People can debate politics, sports, iOS and Android but there is no debating sound... I mean they're all engineered and manufactured the same (Beats) and it's not difficult for professionals and sound engineers to give factual information (which is known now) about them. The V curve that Beats have distorts and changes music tremendously. For lack of a more politically correct wording, I will say this comparison was really shitty. A $299.99 pair of Sennheiser's, AT's or any other big boy in the headphone industry would have blown them out of their god damn minds and gotten the point across much better that Beats are a garbage pair of cans. I mean you may as well have compared some Apple Ear Pods to the Beats, a $210 difference is huge (the shitty Uptowns are $90 on Amazon). Also the lack of noise cancelling/small cups (with the poorly selected Uptown headphones) is huge when you're talking about a university campus: wind, people talking, birds and other ambient/background noises. First Snazzy Labs video I've disliked. Just a moot video with a click-hungry title and idea that completely does it in wrong way. Still love Snazzy Labs but what a disaster.
I didn't realize they were using a set under 300 to compare to the beats. I'd have to agree with you here that it's unfair that they're comparing an -overpriced- set of headphones with a cheaper make of an alternative option. Dollar per dollar value was disregarded here which is a disservice to the consumer.
Actually, headphones are very debatable.. There are people who prefer flat sound and people who prefer colored sound. But you're right, it was a bad comparison. They should of put the Beats against something of its 'bassy' class Such as the V-Moda M100s or the Sol Republic Tracks HD which are cheaper and sound very good at what they do. Headphone brands like Philips and AKG tend to make headphones with exaggerated highs, mids and distortion which will not sound pleasing if they were using techno or hip hop in their tests. Allot of people including myself aren't a fan of that 'tin can' sort of sound. I can say the 1st generation of Beats were very "shitty" because they added too much bass and sacrificed quality. But the 2nd gen admittingly sound great at what they do, they weren't made to be 100% accurate with sound. They are aimed at the audience who likes bass, and i have to admit that flat headphones begin to sound boring after a while. I love using the Audio Technicha M50x for recording, but the M100s are all around funner to listen to. If they compared a very clear flat sound vs a clear bassy sound, it would just come down to preference. There is no such thing as the best overall headphone, just best headphones of a class. Beats are definitely over priced, But if you think they are shitty, you either never heard them, or they are not your preference.
I agree that the results might have been very different if they'd compared the Beats with some closed Sennies and there is a gap between good and stupendously good that anyone will notice. But then there's taste. Some like bass heavy some like pure. Some like cancelling and some prefer open. But yeah one of the noise cancelling bass heavy Sennheisers would've been my choice for the comparison. (Although I prefer my HD598's for purity and wide stage)
Ah. So, since most people have quite an interest in triphop, dubstep, and hip-hop, the Beats Studios were specifically built for the current dominant genres of today. Well, that makes sense, now. I don't blame Beats, though they're quite overpriced, to be honest, for such popularity the world over. But in my opinion, I listen to all genres of music on SoundCloud, so this is why I prefer headphones with v-shaped equalizers built in. I tested each genre of music with Beats and the ATHM50Xs, and it seems that the A50s work with almost every genre, while the Beats only work with bass-heavy tracks.
True in short you can't blame Beats for being bad. Those that like them probably didn't come from audiophile quality headphones and the beats reach out to that croud. In my opinion I will never buy Beats the ATH-M50X's make my day everyday.
EMC RID I never said Beats was bad. Read my comment again. I was comparing these two headphones not to see which one is superior, but how different they are.
Well, the Ath-m50's aren't too good either. They aren't too articulate, and to be honest, 180$ for the m50x's is a bit overpriced. The m40x's are imho better just because to me they sound exactly the same and they're a lot cheaper. though i would not buy either of them. I would much rather get the Custom One Pros from Beyerdynamic, since they are essentially the same price and they sound a hell of a lot better. There's loads of better options then the m50's, Denon AH-D400, Dt770's, dt990's, senn 558's, hell the Urbanites and Momentums are a lot better.
I've considered doing a similar experiment using my $2,000 Audeze LCD-3 and the AURALiC TAURUS amp but I haven't figured out how to integrate it yet...
+Freddy Scoggan That's quite the budget! If you'll be listening primarily at home and don't mind open-back headphones, I'd recommend the HiFiMAN HE-300. If you're wanting closed back (for home, around town, and on airplanes), I'd recommend either the OPPO PM-3 or the new Audeze Sine.
Test for this is pretty bad. You need them to hear a song that fully emphasizes soundstage, bass, midrange and treble all at once on a controlled source rather than them listening to their own music and their god knows what EQ curve (if they even use it).
Yeah I sure prefer the DT's I used to have, and I was discretely amazed after trying the T90 s in a shop. But imo, for that 150 price range it's very hard to find something which is overall better really, especially compared to the 2 in the video
Why the fuck would people pay $300 for a pair of branded headphones? Beats are only popular because of the brand itself, it's a trend. beats aren't superior to the Phillip's. It's just that the headphones are more genre specific in the sense that classic rock and pop would sound better on the Phillip's and rap and dubstep would sound better from a pair of beats. I don't see the appeal of rap music though, it's all about drugs and going to clubs and the music is mediocre at best. There is no talent involved.
Why would I listen to songs about some guy bragging how much money he has or how he gets "bitches"? What really trips me out is that women listen to these songs and are totally okay being addressed as just bitches and hoes and just being used for sex.
The Gringo Come on now .Rap is not my favorite style of music ,but the few listen to have meaning and do takes skills. I can tell you and Caleb have never really listen to rap if that is what you describe rap to be about lol. I use to think county music didn't have bad language and talk bad about girls until I start car pooling with my friend on the regular. I heard some crazy things in them songs lol. My point is, please don't go on a rant about something you do not know anything about.
Have you even heard to some of eminem's songs? (MMLP - Relapse) He never objectifies women, and yes he talks bout taking drugs, but not in a good way. He makes them seems horrible, disgusting mind altering pieces of shit, which they are. Also, Lose Yourself, Not Afraid, When I'm Gone, jesus christ I could go on forever. You think it doesn't take talent? You try rapping Rap God, or Rabbit Run. Hard, ain't it?
The Gringo I totally agree. Rap music is totally revoltinge and is completely degrading to women. I can't help but laugh and shake my head whenever girls listen to that crap.
I like how they have one audio file which is the only thing Beats are even good at (I say "good" very loosely) which is bass, newsflash for all you kids out there, music isn't just about bass, it's about a lot more than bass in fact. To think they call this an Experiment where one side would have the advantage and would even go so far as to use Phillips instead of something still cheaper than Beats or even at the same price point but much better quality. Honestly, sound isn't even debatable, Beats are factually incompetent at most other forms of music, and other headphones and earbuds far outperform them at or below the same price. It's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact, and the fact is, Beats are pretty shitty for as much as you pay for them. They are, and always will be a couple hundred dollar fashion statement. (Personally if I was going to have a couple hundred dollars as a fashion statement, I'd probably have a couple hundred dollars in my wallet instead, looks a lot snazzier and is a lot more useful than some cheap, poorly made, and underwhelming headphones)
I'm right there with you bro, I don't get the appeal of beats, maybe a few years ago when they were new but now there are so many much better options. To me I wouldn't even want to be seen with beats, I think they are played out. Not to mention they sound like shit compared to even my m50x's, at half the price point.
Chadryan Cox Your argument is invalid. Beats are simply a fashion statement. If you are buying a Polo T-Shirt. They both are made out of the same material, One costs $30, while the Name-Brand that created the Polo Tee costs $ 80. Would you wear the Polo to be recognized by paying a decent amount of money into a product everyone knows about, or should you wear a regular Polo and be looked as some normal Joe? It is all a matter of fashion. Jimmy Lovine and Dr. Dre found a market to get rich in, just like Ralph Lauren, created a fashion empire with his bold, stunning fashion statement. Yes, there are thousands of better headphones which sound infinitely better than a pair of Beats, but in the end of the day, would you look like a fucking dork wearing a pair of Sennheisers which sound better than a pair of beats with a DAC/AMP, or would you follow other millions of people who buy beats and not research for days for a pair of headphone which don't look at sexy as beats. Because admit it, Beats look better than someone with a pair of Grados. Beats created the perfect headphone to make users leave their device-included ear buds, and buy a pair of headphones which the customer likes, and prefers over a pair of EarPods or Samsung In-Ears.
Grammar Nazi Party You say his argument is "invalid" but your argument against it is "We shouldn't judge people for stuffing someones pockets full of money they don't deserve because people overhype a product that is in no way shape or form worth that kind of money." That's like saying "well the average person doesn't even know what taxes go to, or what they're used for, they just pay because everyone else does, so who gives two shits if they jack up the price just to stuff their products and not give us anything really worth the money we pump in." That, my friend, is a flawed argument. Do beats look nice? Well that's subjective, I personally think that their appeal as headphones is lacking, I mean their is almost no variation, they're really too big in my opinion (especially for as shitty as the speakers really are in there) they're flashy and showy and it kinda makes people look like snobs when they have them. Yes, it's a fashion statement, however when you're actually on your own, not sucking on you mums tit for cash, you'll realize that the $30 polo is a fuck ton nicer than the name brand that you'll spend another $50 when you need a total of at least 10 for work. You can buy some nice Trittons www.trittonaudio.com/prod/kunai_uni.asp#!prettyPhoto with about the same specs as the Beats Studios (and personally sound better just because their bass isn't overpowering) and they look really good, come in multiple colors, are stronger than fuck and harder than shit to break, and are actually extremely comfortable and compact, not to mention $230 cheaper. I'm all for fashion, and if something looks better and is reasonably in the same price range, I'd actually prefer that, but if we're talking the same quality with a "name brand" (honestly who can say Beats is the name brand for all headphones when there are so many more manufacturers who are just as "name brand") and a price tag that's going to set my budget back 2 or 3 months, no fucking thank you. The only people who would buy Beats are A) Those who have no idea that audio does have an objective formula to see what sounds good or just doesn't care how their music sounds or B) People who are well off enough to afford it just so they can say they own a pair and let them collect dust for all time and then not in any way shape or form use their excess money to do something good for the world. These are the kinds of people I never associate with, and honestly if that's how I see Beats as a fashion statement, is it really worth being a part of it?
Rarity Bro You fighting for a pair of headphones is quite likely the most dumbest thing i've seen. It's like you own a headphones company and is trying your best to get people to buy it. So what you're saying is that 7 out of 10 people who own Beats are douches? Your probably 13 and have been possessed by the internet of building your own Pc, ATH M-50's, Andrioid is superior than iOS, despite you owning only a shitty bloaty Andrioid phone. You have been brainwashed by biased people on the internet, fitting into the croup of the internet. I want you to your Middle School, and ask your friends which headphones do you like better? Show them a picture of ATH M-50's and Beats Studios. Tell them Beats have Punchy-Deep bass and sound good with Rap, Dubstep, and Electronic music. Then tell them the ATH-M50's have prominent high's and less bass then Beats, but have a more accurate soundstage. The M-50's cost 150 and Beats 50$ more. I Bet your little stupid middle schooler ass that most of the people you talk to will prefer the Beats over the Ath's. Your Argument is invalid, child.
Yeah, how screwed was this test... You gave the advantage to beats by using a head phone of much lesser quality... why not bring on even a Bose headset vs. the beats? where price is equivalent ? big thumbs down... completely unscientific methodology. You guys should be embarrassed.
Snazzy Labs... that's my point...did you NOT get the intent of my comment? "why not bring on EVEN a Bose"... suggesting ANYTHING would have been better than the Philips? Goddamn... this is English man English.! I could easily name multiple headphones that are equally priced, but far superior..
+swish1onu This was 2 years ago. The Philips was all I had on hand for an impromptu shoot. And the Philips Uptown are actually really fantastic headphones. I prefer them to Beats. They're not as bassy though and so a few people that listened to rap and electronic preferred the Beats. In retrospect, I would have brought another similarly bassy can that doesn't compromise on quality, but it just wasn't a possibility when we filmed it.
Snazzy Labs... well, then in the interest of providing accurate information, wouldn't it be prudent to preface the video or at least do another comparison? I would definitely tune in to watch a comparison where the Beats went up against its competitors in a blind test. The red cord is a dead giveaway.
+Junaka more bass doesn't mean better sound. The m50x's aren't supposed to amplify the lows but give you a true sound. If a track is mixed well, then you will hear it with the m50x's, and you will enjoy it.
Everybody in this comment section you cannot hate on beats is you don't even have them most likely you can't afford them and you are mad or you are just jealous
Your savior is here. The song is : FSTIVL - Never Felt This Way (feat. Eden) You can only find the song in one place, Through JINGLEPUNKS.COM's iPad app called the JINGLEPUNKS player. In order to log in, you must list your full name, number, email, company name and project info just to request for a log in before access is granted.
The beats are great for the average person who isn't an audiophile. Just buy what you like and if you don't like beats then relax and don't use them. I never understood why people go out of their way to try and prove a product is bad when a lot of people clearly enjoy it.
Except the average person can't usually afford 300-400$ headphones. When they can get MUCH better at a much lower price range, beats seems like a silly choice. If you're not an audiophile and can't really make out the difference between two different pair of headphones, why buy the more expensive ones? Well, if people want to make that choice, fine, but I will criticise their poor decisions.
beats really arent bad. they're just overpriced. by regurgitating this "beats are terrible headphones" opinion with the intent of going against whats popular....you end up having the popular opinion. odd wouldnt you say?
Tang Tang Tang which is what they SHOULD be saying. but nah, they go out of their way to shit on the quality. i find it hilarious because most of the time an audiophile cant even tell any difference in quality
I love Quinn and have been watching him for years, but this is a very poor experiment imho. Heres why: (I am not an audiophile but i have listened to both headphones.) 1. They are using the Phillips Uptown, which in my opinion, Quinn overrates time and time again. They do some things very well but other things poorly. They are also $90 on amazon, less than 3 times the price on the beats $300 price tag. 2. They are using the Beats Solo 2 headphones (from what I can tell) which are in fact a VERY good headphone in comparison to past beats. It is not representative to what Beats used to produce which I think is what people are expecting to be compared. 3. They are only using two different types of headphones. To make matters worse they are comparing an on-ear (as advertised) headphone to an over-ear headphone. I would have personally used more cans (about 5 or 6) but the major flaw in this is lack of a control group, which all good experiment needs. 4. The type of music and type of file (bit rate, file type) is also not being presented. We do not know if the music is consistent throughout tests. Also, results might have also been different if they were using only symphony orchestral songs compared to only using rap or techno songs. If any one else has other things they want to say, please respond, I'm interested to see what your opinions of this are.
yopeople70 1. We purposely used a significantly cheaper pair of headphones. 2. They are the Beats Studio. 3. I agree. We only had one afternoon to make this. 4. Somewhat true. Although bitrate and file type makes very little difference when you're coming out of a mobile device without an amplifier. Thanks for watching!
could not agree more. Also, instead of using multiple high end headphones ,they only used two headphones for the experiment. A cheap one and a high end which narrows down the room for preferrence. If other quality headphones like audio technica atm-50s, krk etc were used in the experiment, their choices would definitely be different.
Beats are not bad actually, they're just overpriced as fuck. You pay for the logo/look, just like iPhones. But hey if that's important for you, sure. I would personally find it awkward to wear Beats in public. Maybe I'm just not very fashion conscious. Audio Technica ATH-M50,
This just proves that Beats don't have a realistic/reference sound. They are colored with more bass and that's bad, but people think that's good and that's how it's supposed to be, so they pick them.
+KoKi original You'd be surprised what most teens and young adults prefer, growing up listening to mp3 quality music over poor quality earbuds and headphones. The large bass ramp is just part of a much bigger problem that clarity and transparency in the high range sounds weird to people used to listening to muddy tinny high-end
Saltefanden10 I didn't say they don't sound good, they are colored. Anything can sound good but if it's colored audio then it's not what it's supposed to sound like. If me or any other producer wanted you to hear more bass then we would add more bass! Colored audio is not an opinion.
Chretien li price doesn't always determine the actual quality of a pair of headphones you could probably easily find a pair of headphones one third the price of a pair of beats and outperform them
With beats, apple, Nike, ECT. You are paying that extra money for the brand. Apple is so expensive becasue people will recognize that you have an i device, same with the others.
Almost every company does that, if you really didn't want to spend money on advertising you should buy only Xiaomi phones, no brand clothes, no brand everything basically
It's kind of like the "hipster" thing to not like super popular and super commercialized products. I must admit, I've tried really hard to not like beats just because I figured I could find something in the same price range and achieve the goal of being different lol...truth is, beats are pretty damn good (mainly the 2nd generations). I also have to admit they are aesthetically pleasing. Seems like that should matter when it comes to something you rock on your head.
Ikr. If these people love Beats for the bass they should get Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro instead (the 32 ohm version for mobile/iPhone) it is simply incomparable. I'm personally rocking it with the DT 880's. German technology is op stroheim.
LOL Those philips headphones are selling from $50-$80. Try comparing beats side by side with good bose, audio technica or sennheiser headphones in a similar price range and they will sound like shit. If you like bass, I got a pair of sony headphone for $200 which sounded better than my friend's beats studio headphones
No its actually good that they compared them with that price because when people bash on Beats they usually say you can get head phones from $30 - $100 with better sound quality.
SingleLensReflex Thats not what the point was. It was that people like these who hate on Beats always say you could get a better pair for less. They tried to prove this but it failed. If it had worked (Which it didn't) you would've seen what i'm talking about.
SE7 There are headphones that are complete crap; however, there are many that are less than a $300 pair of beats which far surpass them in sound quality. The Audio technica MH50 headphones are insanely good and only $150. Even a $200 pair of bose or sennheiser headphones would beat the beats. A cheap, no name, pair of headphones will be garbage and of course will loose out over the beats. The philips headphones in the video really cost only $65-$80.
BugleBoy1990 I guess but the idea of this was to see if people thought an average brand was the same or even better without them knowing the name of the brand. Also when you said "Try comparing beats side by side with good bose, audio technica or sennheiser headphones in a similar price range" You can't say compare them with these ones. Because you know they're better. like I said before the point was to see if an average pair would fit the specs.
Bose are better than beats to me. I have beats, and my uncle owns some really nice Bose over the ear , like beats, but the sound of Bose is way better than Dre. beats .
+Tonja Casimir-Buckner For the quality (and the brand, because JBL is a really good brand.) they're not bad at all, you can get them on eBay or Amazon for around $75-90, they're worth giving a shot. 😊
Because you pay money for the name. That's why people buy Versace, Boss and other designer clothes. Not because the quality is better. People don't buy an IPhone because the quality is better. They pay extra for the brand. These guys deliberately chose headphones with a similar quality. They were hoping everybody would chose the cheaper headphones, so they could tell them the price. There's a reason you can recognize the Beats By Dre headphones from a distance... Just like Apple did with their white earplugs. People have to see that you own one. It has always been like that. I remember when I was a kid, everybody had to have Levi's jeans, even though Levi's jeans ripped more easily than the cheaper jeans XD.
Because a lot of people recommend this and weren't you one of the people who said that beets were op and theyr actuall price should be 150 because of the quality it offers
The average person associates warm/bassy headphones with high-quality/Hi-Fi.. one is lazy, one does not wants to actively pick up changes in tone in listening to audio
ImprezaImpresser Yeah they go on sale for cheap quite often. I'm still kind of mad that I payed full price a few years back after watching Quinn's review.
Colton Blumhagen I expected the price drop, nobody pays premium for Philips when it comes to headphones. But the company has shown it isn't playing around with the quality and sound of the newest products. I would expect the newer models to keep their value.
It's so weird seeing you so old. Every time I think of Snazzy Labs I think of the young Quinn back from 2011-2012. Nevertheless great video and my youtube feed has been "brighter" in a sense since you've been back.
***** Thanks so much for supporting all these years! Glad to know that the newer content is more exciting. Much more is to come/change in the future. :D
Snazzy Labs Compare it with Bose Quiet Comfort 25 man. Similar price and so much better. And you should also try different genres of music as Beats Pro headsets seem better for Hiphop, R&B and stuff like that.
Marcus Smith Watch MKBHD's video on the truth about Beats by Dre. It pretty much explains why they're so popular and how well the marketing is with the product. It's pretty crazy if you're into consumer electronics.
Bruh, 'normal' people wouldn't care shit about the sound quality, all they want is overwhelming muddy bass and a pair of expensive earphones so they can show off.
Anas Aloudeh m50x is a newer model with a warmer, v-shaped, sound signiture that I think the average person would find a bit more pleasing to the ear than the original m50.
Chocolate Milk Here's the frequency response: www.innerfidelity.com/content/legend-continues-audio-technica-ath-m50x-page-2 I would call that more even than not, but still a warm, v-shaped, tilt. The bass is a bit bumped. The mids are a bit recessed. The treble is a bit bumped as well until you get into mid/high treble where it tapers off a bit. That's v-shaped. It's not flat.
Audiophile headphone vs A great headphone. The comparison is invalid, Beats is for the average consumer I don't see anything on the beats box stating "Audiophile" nor do they make any audiophile headphones. Just for average listeners.
The point is that they are average consumer headphones at an audiophile price. If they only cost $50 they would be a pretty good pair of headphones for the price.
Well yes his endorsement is the reason for the price, i know. but what i was saying is that beats are, like you said, not audiophile headphones, so they deserved to be slagged off for there price tag because they sound shit and are overpriced.
No one ever said beats are shit.We say that FOR THE PRICE, you can find MUCH BETTER stuff.I got some beats studio 2.0 blue, and some Sennheiser momentum blue (same price so far) and I can say my Sennheiser's rape my beats.
aaaaaaaaaaaadddd clarity is insane.Bass si not overpowered as the beats. It` well balanced. If you like strong bass, then the momentum is not really for you.If you want clarity and balance. The momentum`s are the best.It also depends on witch type of music you listen. If you like rap and/or hip hop beats are better. If you try to listen to ed sheeran on the momentum`s you will probably have an orgasm. The sound quality on the momentum`s is fucking insane....
Again, it all depends on what kind of music you listen to. Beats headphones usually do pretty well with this kind of music, but as an all around headphone they suck.
Why is it that people find every way to hate on the big things in any given market? People hate Samsung and Apple for their huge market share in the mobile market and the same is applied with headphones. What's funny is that more than half the people talking shit haven't used the product.
well if the philliphs where 75 bucks they cant compare it to something 300 bucks you can see reviews of 400$ beats loosing to 150$ headphones. I dont care about how good they look and they are not made for good sound. They coast about 100$ in parts and cost 300$ YOU CANT COMPARE SOMETHING THAT IS FAR OUT OF THE PRICE RANGE go and get some LSTN headphones i have the link lstnsound.co/collections/headphones
+Mr. Taco too many bash beats for there price. talk shit about quality but never bought them and listened to them. don't know what they're talking about. smh. beats may not be the best headphone brand ever, but beats beat up any shitty philips, or sony, or skullcandy. no doubt. I've heard the "best" from each company. the ones that are most famous from each. beats blow most everything out of the watter.
Da Basser Erm....I own 7 beats. My Sony Gold wireless, and my Razer Kraken 7.1 mobile beat them. My Sony headphones have a longer 7 hour battery life, and a 8.1 surround sound speaker. My Razer Headphones have the cleanest mic I've ever heard, and the best build quality in the world, with metal grills, and flexible retractable parts. Blue, and Corsair DESTORY BEATS in every way. Just saying
lRaziel1 I never said they compare in sound quality to the headphones that audiophiles orgasm over. I just said they are not as bad as people say. If people afford it, there is really no reason why audiophiles have to bash them for liking beats. Like you, who just said I was deaf.
lRaziel1 The only beats worth trying is Beats solo2, and perhaps Mixr. Let me explain why you hear crap. The hair cells receive sound waves, but it is your brain that determines what they are. Thus hearing is a subjective experience. And like any subjective experience, you think beats are crap, then they will sound crap to you. Just like how you think the doctor gave you meds but it was just a sugar pill. Placebo effect, hope you learned something. Put down your pride and prejudeice and actually be objective. Also as I said the price is for those who can afford. So saying why beats is bad is because quality of materials and price does not justify your prejudice. If you don't know, beats solo2 ear cups are leather, as with many expansive earphones. As for the headband, a lot of headphones are made of plastic, I don't see any reason why beats can't use plastic. As I said before, price is not an issue, it's the design that matters. Most so called better headphones are mostly monotonous in design. Perhaps you should stop bashing people? Continuously calling me deaf is very rude. I shall repeat, I am not deaf.
Yes...Beats are better. Did you not watch the video?? In the end they proved that beats were the better set of headphones. They use better materials to make beats, causing them to be more expensive. Its a fact that they're are better, I wasn't speaking my onion, i was speaking a fact because, in the video, my FACT, it was proven to be true. So.......yes, beats are better, there's no argument.... Think before you comment.
I'm not wrong, weather you mad the video or not. You making the video, has nothing to do with the fact that in the video, the majority of the people chose the beats. proving that between the two headsets, beats are better. So no, i'm not wrong.
Actually, "to be honest" you were a fan of beats for a short time. You even did a video praising them until you discovered how bad they are compared to other headphones.
Cody Lamson I just don't like when people try to act like that they know what's best from the get go without making any mistakes. He could mention the fact that he fell for the same marketing ploy, but instead he'd rather try to act like an elitist that never makes mistakes when buying tech.
Not really a big deal dude. If we were talking last year, sure, but this is nearly 6 years ago and from what i remember he only liked the pros but found them overpriced. I never saw them featured on headphonemecca.
Chase I'm sorry bud, but I'm not jealous. If anything, I feel bad for you. You blew so much money on a pair of headphones that would be up to par at the $50 dollar mark.
***** Haha, you're so jealous and butthurt. I can buy your headphones too if I wanted to and frankly it's not called wasting money if you're happy with it... Which I am happy with it. Sucks to be you :) ArcFlash Lmao! I feel bad for YOU bud. You can't even afford Beats by Dre headphones. Oh and don't worry about me, I have enough money to buy your mother... Hell, your whole family for that matter :]
***** Please, just abandon this lol. He's a spoiled brat who think's he's above everyone else because he has more money than everyone, or at least he claims.
"Never been a fan of Beats By Dre" tell that to your old Beats videos, specifically the unboxkng of the Beats Pro where you admit to being a Beats fan boy. I'll wait.
I don't know why people like to argue for what's better....if you like music with BASS then you go with the whole new beats (not the old models) but if your into classical, jazz etc then you get something else...it's all about what you like to listen to.
+TheKidBart the new models are also shit and still not worth their price. you can give less than $100 and get Skullcandy Crushers that do the same thing as beats(bass only)
+E5m the problem with that is that your not going to be listen to all types of music.....it's simple if you like you buy and if you don't then you don't
+SapiaNt0mata I listened to the skull candy crush...the bass is good but the thing with those is that they look ugly I personally wouldn't wear them...is why I went with the beats and also because I only listen to rap/hip-hop- Reggaeton where a lot of the bass is really present
the reason why beats are expensive is because it is highly advertised and very popular, and you have to admit that when you first open your first box to a beats product it is the best package you could open for headphones or earbuds and they ad all the money up for the advertising, packaging, and the headphones themselves are all added up and you now know why beats are expensive. If you buy beats you will never regret getting them if you treat your headphones or ear buds well
Beats are really good, maybe not for the price, but they are still pretty awesome! All of you emo-rock listeners just don't appreciate beats because they're made for rap/hiphop/dubstep music, not for the music you listen to.
i bought the beats mixr headphones about 2 years ago. I bought them because i knew they would have better mid range audio sound. I don't like bassheavy headphones, so thats why i didnt get the Studios. just saying. it all comes down to personal preference. And as we all know, headphones these days are not just headphones. They are also a wearable like people wear whristbands and stuff. So please stop bitching about beats not being 'as good as they should be' headphones and let people buy whatever the fuck they want.
I really don't see why people complain so much about Beats, I'd agree they're overpriced but I went from some £50 Sony headphones to the beats studio 2.0's and I'm loving the difference in the sound. I wouldn't pay full price for the beats hell no but I got them half price on sale for £130 and honestly I can't complain. About the same price as the M50X's which probably sound more balanced and refined but it's really personal choice. I liked the look of the blue headphones and they sound nice which was why I bought them. I only use them when I'm out and about, I have another pair for home use.
People only hate on beats because they are expensive
No. Because they're bad.
Actually because they're shit, compared to any brand out there.
Echolyktuz Then why did they they become popular
King Kell 'cause people dumb AF.
Doesn't this experiment also just prove that people are more succumbed to bass and "loudness"? Also speaks for the success of the loudness war that has been going on lately.
The loudness war really has little to do with this.
Michael Melville Not directly, true, but what I meant was that people tend to prefer heavy bass music and "loudness" - despite the actual level of quality.
Also proves that you don't need good headphones to listen to shit, electro, dance, computer music. Real music deserves real headphones.
+chasenallimcam I have an akg k712 pro, with fiio x5 and fiio e17 kamp, If I want bass, they can crank out 3xs as much XD
TechnoStickmen Excellent headphone :). The sound signature isn't quite my thing, but the sound quality is awesome!
But.. You have the X5 (DAP) and the E17 (amp). Then why are you talking about an X3 DAP..?
Also, while the K712 is obviously a high quality pair of headphones, it's not going to satisfy die-hard bassheads, sadly.
kilspeed111 My bad, I meant 3 times the bass :p. (though I prefer a flat EQ)
Clever Beats advertising. They used crappy Philips headphones... Why no Audio Technicas or Sennheiser? Thumbs down for unfair experiment
There is no admittance to a paid advertisement from Beats. This isn't a reason to discredit their work.
Yes, but they used differently priced headphones for a similar experiment. It was an unfair experiment to begin with.
Philips doesn't make bad headphones the fidelio x2 is really good so there's no point in using other brands
They don't make bad headphones yes, but there are lower end headphones that they make that have less sound quality than the high end ones (of course). They should have used headphones that are the same price as the Beats headphones.
+Kavin Suriyaporn beats headphones really aren't all that. I'd rather buy skull candy for a fraction of the price and sounds fab.
Should have compared the beats to something else in the same price range
+Moses Anderson that's not the point.
Your thinking is that you need to spend that much to get good quality, when you don't.
None of my business
should have compared beats vs Sennheiser..
Bring in V-Modas and/or Audio-technica. Then we're talking
The m50x would be better than them lol
+KoreanJoker rekoJnaeroK AKGGGGGGGGG
+KoreanJoker rekoJnaeroK yes. vmoda are the best iv ever heard. still have my Crossfade LPs and they are better than Beats today
+KoreanJoker rekoJnaeroK i agree, why compare beats with philips, i dont get it
+KoreanJoker rekoJnaeroK V-moda has great sound but the build quality is not great, they are also over priced.
Teknium Would you recommend the HD 518's?
ThePolarSunlight Definately. They are one of the best headphones for the money
+Teknium only the high end philips headphones are better
for his experiment they should have compared sennheiser headphones (ranging from 150 - 200) against the beats, then they should have seen the reaction
I think you're saying that because you used the beats SOLOS. They're shit but it's a completely different story when it comes to the studios. Try them before you say Sennheiser is better
+FB Games
I hav tried both solos and studios
Studios are any day better no doubt
But overall if we see sennheiser is better
But again it depends on which model u r taking
u do the social experiment with a the 400$ beats and 190$ ATH-M50Xs
audio technicas would kick beat's ass in all aspects
True
maybe even the 50 dollar audio technica ath m20x
Skywalking Jedi5 nope
Yet one is cheaper and clearly better and provides clearer sound. Any artist that actually monitors using beats is a joke; the advertisements are a ploy.
Audio Technicas are mainly focused on the sound quality and don't focus on the looks as much as beats, and beats focus on packaging and fashion more than the quality.
Noise cancelling Bose headphones, the ones I own, are less expensive than Beats and they're, according to me, a lot better.
what headphone is that? , I'm currently hunting for one.. Beats are overrated
+Felix Kovac nah
You get what you pay for
Bose = Buy Other Sound Equipment
LOL! Never heard that before about the Blose!
what about beats? what stands it for
if they had used something that didn't suck to compare to beats the beats would have been dominated
Agreed. if they had used something by Bose, Audio Technica, Sennheiser or even some Sony sets, it would have been much more polarizing. Also, I think something besides electronic music should have been used. Consider using classical, acoustic, vocal/choral and rock/metal.
yeah
mharting92 bose is just as bad as beats, really. Just another consumer-hyped headphone that isn't all that great. Ever hear the slogan, "no highs, no lows?"
ajordan480 Every time I go to an electronics section I test out the headphones there and bose has always been consistently great.
mharting92
Brands mean nothing, the philips uptown are pretty good headphones for the price.
Beats are overrated and overpriced, it's all just because of the name... (As I adjust my beats over my ears)
overhated*
Tide Pods omg sAME. I always say "ew don't buy beats they're trash." And I have beats. .-. XD
***** no
***** yes
nice hahaha
This experiment would've made way more sense with ATH M50x's. Beats aren't bad, they're just bad for the price.
Beats sound OK!
For their price range, beats should be compared to the Momentum 2.0.
Against apple earbuds. Not against any sennheiser or audio technica product.
I think if beats were 40-60 dollar headphones then they would be pretty good.
areed. heard that the studio 3's are almost on par w/ the new qc 35 and 1000x, and w/ the same price tag.
I think you should have compared it to other $300 headphones.
I think Minecraft is gay :)
Nah minecraft is just gay
thesouthdakotian No, I just did reserch and minecraft is stilla video game, and in no way involved an apeal to the same gender.
martinshoosterman Minecraft is a game for gay people*
i fixed it for you
Why don't you just get 2 headphones of the same price? It's like comparing a letter opener to a sword.
Echolyktuz Do you honestly think a 16 year old moderately rich European kid had never owned headphones before he got some beats?
Kami K Anything in this life is possible.
LookRainy You say it like you assume I can afford to buy multiple pairs of expensive headphones.
omfg. 'I like my music unaltered, so I would choose the Beats'. Special child.
1.) you sound like a teenybopper
2.) if you want unaltered audio, theres headphones at the $10-20 range
Case closed
Bob Me?
...He was quoting the other dude saying he was stupid for thinking that.
Alaha Ekbur yeah these people compared a low-end pair of phillips that cost maybe $60 to a pair the most expensive beats...
quazarthemad Wouldn't surprise me that this could have been cherry picked data or even funded by Beats.
Its all preference. No argument, it is what it is
HAVE YOU HEARD A BUMPING MUSIC ON APPLE EARBUDS? FUCK THEY SOUND LIKE A PARTY
Kiff The Kiffing Kiffle Yep, I mean they're not $100 - that's huge when we're talking about audio.
Actually, headphones are very debatable..
There are people who prefer flat sound and people who prefer colored sound.
But you're right, it was a bad comparison. They should of put the Beats against something of its 'bassy' class
Such as the V-Moda M100s or the Sol Republic Tracks HD which are cheaper and sound very good at what they do.
Headphone brands like Philips and AKG tend to make headphones with exaggerated highs, mids and distortion
which will not sound pleasing if they were using techno or hip hop in their tests.
I disagree, Sound is as debateable as any other topic.
Sir Steel Mittens agreed!
NviForce And I don't think my ears are clogged, either.
They should have compared them to a pair of $300 Sennheiser or Bose Headphones than cheaper Philips. Seems a bit unfair.
Audio Technica all the way
Ordered the m50x's Kreygasm
TachyonResolve they are absolutely amazing been using them for about 1 year 6 months now
+BMXrace321 heck yeah!!!! ATH-M50x will rock your world :D
TotalDoomsayer too right! :)
Watching this with my ath-m50x's right now. Lol these sound quality noobs.
They should have the same test but using 1200 dollar sennheisers instead of uptowns
I've considered doing a similar experiment using my $2,000 Audeze LCD-3 and the AURALiC TAURUS amp but I haven't figured out how to integrate it yet...
+Snazzy Labs So which headphones would go well with classical and rock music?
+Freddy Scoggan What's your price range?
0-$450
+Freddy Scoggan That's quite the budget! If you'll be listening primarily at home and don't mind open-back headphones, I'd recommend the HiFiMAN HE-300. If you're wanting closed back (for home, around town, and on airplanes), I'd recommend either the OPPO PM-3 or the new Audeze Sine.
Test for this is pretty bad. You need them to hear a song that fully emphasizes soundstage, bass, midrange and treble all at once on a controlled source rather than them listening to their own music and their god knows what EQ curve (if they even use it).
+Jeff DaChef true haha +1
This as also $300 versus $75
Roses are grey
Violets are grey
I'm colour blind
Lmao
😂
W😂😂😂😂
Amen
Ossie3 I was waiting for someone to reply “color**”
Wow. Having the perspective of 2022 Snazzy Labs, Quinn def glowed up since 2014
For 150 chips (€/$) the Beyerdinamic Custom One Pro wil blow completely away this other two, in sound, comfort and build quality
+correzzana1992 I hate the Custom One Pro. Lol. My least favorite headphone Beyerdynamic had ever made.
Yeah I sure prefer the DT's I used to have, and I was discretely amazed after trying the T90 s in a shop.
But imo, for that 150 price range it's very hard to find something which is overall better really, especially compared to the 2 in the video
Just ordered a set of PSB M4U-1's... 250$ CAD and is, debatably, the best set of headphones for less than 1000$ USD.
correzzana199
correzzana1992 for $50 you could get Superlux HD669s and get way better sound
Honestly it feels like hating the beats is more of a trend then actually liking it
The Gringo Come on now .Rap is not my favorite style of music ,but the few listen to have meaning and do takes skills.
What happened in 7 years? He looked liked a student back then and now like he is right before his pension ^^
You can buy some nice Trittons www.trittonaudio.com/prod/kunai_uni.asp#!prettyPhoto
with about the same specs as the Beats Studios (and personally sound better just because their bass isn't overpowering) and they look really good, come in multiple colors, are stronger than fuck and harder than shit to break, and are actually extremely comfortable and compact, not to mention $230 cheaper.
Rarity Bro Sorry, TL;DR. Please Summarize, this is not a essay.
+swish1onu Bose? Lololol. Bose sucks.
The red cord is a dead giveaway.
or you could look at the date of the video?
Some guy with Beats walks in the room
A guy with Sennheisers walks in the room
Guy with beats have left the room
why would you test with Philips? that just setting it up for everyone to like beats
beats are not good headphones but Phillips are worse
+Matt Ward Buy the Phillips fidelio x1 or x2 and enjoy life.
+BBoyVD yeah but that wasn't even a particularly good pair of philips
To be fair, the Philips they chose are like $80. Fidelio's are much higher quality than the Uptowns even though they are open back.
My thoughts exactly.
Beats? No, thanks. I'll stick with my M50x.
That's what I'm using right now lol.
Hey, your cool
+Junaka more bass doesn't mean better sound. The m50x's aren't supposed to amplify the lows but give you a true sound. If a track is mixed well, then you will hear it with the m50x's, and you will enjoy it.
+discoHR same
+Junaka beats are litterally worth like $21 dollars in parts, think about that and how much you paid for them lol
Everybody in this comment section you cannot hate on beats is you don't even have them most likely you can't afford them and you are mad or you are just jealous
They're garbage.
I have some, they're not as great as they make them out to be. my son even returned his to the store.
+Snazzy Labs savage lmao
+Preston Treglio so my 350€ Beyer Dynamics are worse than your shitty Beats?! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I have beats studios and they are not that good for 300 dollars.
Your savior is here.
The song is :
FSTIVL - Never Felt This Way (feat. Eden)
You can only find the song in one place, Through JINGLEPUNKS.COM's iPad app called the JINGLEPUNKS player. In order to log in, you must list your full name, number, email, company name and project info just to request for a log in before access is granted.
I don't trust it, why can't they just put the song on itunes :/
hey can't find it anywhere mind to share the link ?
It's Darude - Sandstorm
Jorden Senapati do you have account in JINGLEPUNKS? ....
the stereo balance in this video is just abominable
also you should've used headphones within the same price bracket to do this comparison.
+NikoliZZer ya like seinheiser hd558
Thank god that wasnt just me
i just witched headphones 3 times thinking they were broken because of the balance XD
The beats are great for the average person who isn't an audiophile. Just buy what you like and if you don't like beats then relax and don't use them. I never understood why people go out of their way to try and prove a product is bad when a lot of people clearly enjoy it.
Totally agree. Everyone wants to shove their opinion down each other's throat. Don't like it don't buy it. Simple.
Enjoy criticizing...just seems like a waste of your own time in my opinion, but to each their own.
a lot of people just want them becuse they see others with them
+zari griffin and that bothers you because exactly it shouldn't their reasoning to support a product is still a reason
beats really arent bad. they're just overpriced. by regurgitating this "beats are terrible headphones" opinion with the intent of going against whats popular....you end up having the popular opinion. odd wouldnt you say?
+nessleezle i guess people take it as price-performance ratio of Beats suck
Tang Tang Tang which is what they SHOULD be saying. but nah, they go out of their way to shit on the quality. i find it hilarious because most of the time an audiophile cant even tell any difference in quality
What type of music do u listen to nessleezle?
+Joe Dirt hip hop of course. i'm currently listening to greg laswell, however
beats ain't bad for the bass thou some people prefer a much tighter bass then lose bass.
I love Quinn and have been watching him for years, but this is a very poor experiment imho. Heres why: (I am not an audiophile but i have listened to both headphones.)
They were using the Beats Studio 2013
yopeople70
Snazzy Labs what's the name of the song please?!
could not agree more. Also, instead of using multiple high end headphones ,they only used two headphones for the experiment. A cheap one and a high end which narrows down the room for preferrence. If other quality headphones like audio technica atm-50s, krk etc were used in the experiment, their choices would definitely be different.
You nailed it right there. Couldn't agree more.
Asking people to guess has no statistical value.
Kamen Kunchev It's a proper experiment. They're not "guessing", they're saying which headphones sounded better.
Beats look like a McDonald's toy
Beats are not bad actually, they're just overpriced as fuck. You pay for the logo/look, just like iPhones. But hey if that's important for you, sure. I would personally find it awkward to wear Beats in public. Maybe I'm just not very fashion conscious.
Audio Technica ATH-M50,
The truth shall set people free!
***** Then Beats should be destroyed
***** I believe you might've misspelled underrated
Lol. dont through iPhones in that category... that might attract the iOS vs Android dogfighters.
*****
Dude you really don't know what you're talking about...
This just proves that Beats don't have a realistic/reference sound. They are colored with more bass and that's bad, but people think that's good and that's how it's supposed to be, so they pick them.
+KoKi original If a producer wanted you to hear more bass, he would just raise the low end more. Dr. Dre probably knows that but it's money so...
MadeAUsername I'm aware of the need to break in headphones or speakers but it won't affect the overall quality of gear in comparison
Saltefanden10 I didn't say they don't sound good, they are colored. Anything can sound good but if it's colored audio then it's not what it's supposed to sound like. If me or any other producer wanted you to hear more bass then we would add more bass! Colored audio is not an opinion.
That's what people like and want to hear lmao I don't know how you can argue that
The beats fetch for $300... The Phillips for half the price... Of course the beats are going to be a bit better...
If they put in a $190 pair of sennheisers they would have won in every aspect against the beats that take 14-15$ to make
I've heard $30 headphones better than Beats.
Chretien li price doesn't always determine the actual quality of a pair of headphones you could probably easily find a pair of headphones one third the price of a pair of beats and outperform them
Chretien li actually the ath m50x are $140 and they would destroy the beats
not really.....the audio technica a50x are way better and you can find those for $100
With beats, apple, Nike, ECT. You are paying that extra money for the brand. Apple is so expensive becasue people will recognize that you have an i device, same with the others.
***** which is great because Android is anger inducing
SkillHut
With most big company brands consumers do that which is what usaully sells if its a decent product
Almost every company does that, if you really didn't want to spend money on advertising you should buy only Xiaomi phones, no brand clothes, no brand everything basically
Karol D
Apple and microsoft are very good too given they have dominated their markets though hating hipsters/fanboys can be found for any brand
Karol D their shit is the best i agree but at the end of the day the stuff still cost pennies on the dollar to make.
beats are poorly build and cheap that's all there is to say
Ok
+john j thats an opinion you entitled too good job :)
There not poor built but that are shit headphones
Adan Vega they really are they break off so easily
Haha j cant just afford them hahaha
It's kind of like the "hipster" thing to not like super popular and super commercialized products. I must admit, I've tried really hard to not like beats just because I figured I could find something in the same price range and achieve the goal of being different lol...truth is, beats are pretty damn good (mainly the 2nd generations). I also have to admit they are aesthetically pleasing. Seems like that should matter when it comes to something you rock on your head.
You should've taken Sennheiser ,then they would've said one sounded heavenly and the other sounded like shit !
bRoK3n- I have 280 and 419
Fiend Busa true lol
Ikr. If these people love Beats for the bass they should get Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro instead (the 32 ohm version for mobile/iPhone) it is simply incomparable. I'm personally rocking it with the DT 880's. German technology is op stroheim.
jronepk I just bought the 80ohm 770s on the recommendation of a friend and they're great!
HD650 Best
My $20.00 skullcandy earbuds put beats to shame in my opinion.
this is obviously an advertisement.
Lol for who exactly...?
+Snazzy Labs beats
+Snazzy Labs
beats ffs
Hi there, what's the track (song/techno) at the beginning of the vid?
Dunno why this was recommended, but damn, what a young lad!
SE7 That's stupid. Compare headphones that are priced the same.
I'll keep my Bose and Sennheiser headphones. I'm an audio technician and have no shits to give about what's trendy on a college campus / highschool.
Adam S ty for the cliché response. nice neckbeard btw. lol.
Ben From SK trendy not always good
Bose are better than beats to me. I have beats, and my uncle owns some really nice Bose over the ear , like beats, but the sound of Bose is way better than Dre. beats .
I just bought a pair of JBL Synchros 500 and oh man! They're great! Comfortable and the sound quality is spectacular!
+Bryan Bello I'll have to check them out
+Bryan Bello my beasts collect dust, that's about it.
+Tonja Casimir-Buckner For the quality (and the brand, because JBL is a really good brand.) they're not bad at all, you can get them on eBay or Amazon for around $75-90, they're worth giving a shot. 😊
+Bryan Bello thanks
Try this with the audio Technica!
Audio Technica sucks
+Criminal Potatoe nope
+Cryogenic Vortex ..funny how your English sucks for someone who's telling a non-English speaker to "talk English"
Beats are over priced, but good.
Not really.
CookieGuy they are good
Jacob Danielsson No, they are terrible.
CookieGuy did you even watch the video? Hipster alert
Trust me, I have used them my self. Only for one song but yea. I liked them. I wouldn't get them unless I had more money than I knew what to do with.
Why were the beats compared to a $150 pair of headphones?? Why not an equally priced pair if you wanted a fair comparison?
Arber, that doesn't change the fact that they're still overpriced.
instead of philips they should took a pair of audio tecnica or noise cancelating samsung
sorry for the bad spelling
audio technicas are awesome
The average person associates warm/bassy headphones with high-quality/Hi-Fi..
one is lazy, one does not wants to actively pick up changes in tone in listening to audio
You can get the Uptowns for about 90 bucks on Amazon now.
Colton Blumhagen You're right. Should have checked before the video. Oh well.
Snazzy Labs Got mine for $50 in store just so you know :P
ImprezaImpresser Yeah they go on sale for cheap quite often. I'm still kind of mad that I payed full price a few years back after watching Quinn's review.
Colton Blumhagen I expected the price drop, nobody pays premium for Philips when it comes to headphones. But the company has shown it isn't playing around with the quality and sound of the newest products. I would expect the newer models to keep their value.
Got mine for $75
we should have done more dancing while they were blind folded lol
***** The thought crossed our minds, but we didn't any M50s with us at the time :)
***** I would argue that the Philips sound better than the M50, but that's just me...
***** There's many headphones we could have used in this test. In this particular one we used the Phillips which are a decent sounding headphones IMO.
I think that these guys had some experience in sound design.. In my opinion you should have test them on women !!
Tekeridis Giannis believe me we tried but they didn't want to be on camera.
People these days argue over the silliest things like headphones
was thinking about subscribing but not after watching this shitty test
Lets all be honest and say beats are popular as a trend/fashion accessory because you'd rather be seen with beats. FACT
*Where not wde, *buy not but
Rambi Ninethousand Thought not thougt, were not where.
Cj Walker Was typing on a mobile
Rambi Ninethousand I wasn't trying to be a grammar Nazi, you corrected yourself but failed at the correction. So I re-corrected you. That's all.
More bass=better headphones
duh. no.
No Name I were sarcastic
oh, i get it now.
Uhm... compared to m50x would have been more interesting to me. I've never heard of the Phillips Uptown headphones you used as a comparison.
they should compare it to the "Audio Technica ATH-M50"
Anas Aloudeh m50x is a newer model with a warmer, v-shaped, sound signiture that I think the average person would find a bit more pleasing to the ear than the original m50.
ThoseWhoStayUofM They don't have a v-shape sound signature...
Chocolate Milk Here's the frequency response: www.innerfidelity.com/content/legend-continues-audio-technica-ath-m50x-page-2
I would call that more even than not, but still a warm, v-shaped, tilt. The bass is a bit bumped. The mids are a bit recessed. The treble is a bit bumped as well until you get into mid/high treble where it tapers off a bit. That's v-shaped. It's not flat.
There on my head bud
Would like to see an experiment like this comparing the Sennheiser Momentum to Beats Studio 2...would be interesting to hear what people say then.
Dafstervideos Maybe get some ATH-M50's in there as well
That's because $250 of your purchase goes to helping Dre with supporting his 208 baby mothers with child support.
Beats by Dr Dre might be overpriced but there is no reason to hate on Dr Dre. He is successful accept it!
Guess you were one of those guys born without a sense of humour.
People who buy beats are fooled to think they are worth it because they have some guys name on them. Well played Dr.Dre....
bro this video literally disproved your point
ShotDead247 If we talk value for money, nope ;)
100 dollar par of Sennheisers, Audio Technicas, etc. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Beats
Saxton Hale Those are niche brands which equals butthurt
psp420bam Niche... wat.
YoMamasLeftTitty No its the brand. Dr. Dre is worth a lot man in his career.
Well yes his endorsement is the reason for the price, i know. but what i was saying is that beats are, like you said, not audiophile headphones, so they deserved to be slagged off for there price tag because they sound shit and are overpriced.
YoMamasLeftTitty maybe $100 or $120 but I don't know if Google will decide to make Audiophile beats headphones that would be awesome.
YoMamasLeftTitty I mean Give Dr. Dre a little more credit worth or something at least.
No one ever said beats are shit.We say that FOR THE PRICE, you can find MUCH BETTER stuff.I got some beats studio 2.0 blue, and some Sennheiser momentum blue (same price so far) and I can say my Sennheiser's rape my beats.
YES! THANK GOD SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS!
I have my sennheiser HD518 and and the sound is awesome , The bass is a bit laid back so it not a problem .
yes sennheiser is way better I have a pair of momentum's and i love them and they are on amazon for a great price atm
Gleek2336 How good is the bass and clarity ?
aaaaaaaaaaaadddd clarity is insane.Bass si not overpowered as the beats.
Even for their hip hop and rap, they still aren't great. vmoda crossfade m100's are the best for those genres as well as other genres too
Oh my God. Tinny Quinn. Thank you TH-cam for this recommendation
Why is it that people find every way to hate on the big things in any given market? People hate Samsung and Apple for their huge market share in the mobile market and the same is applied with headphones. What's funny is that more than half the people talking shit haven't used the product.
+D33M0N3Y The phillips where 75 bucks and beats are 300
Kenny King And?
well if the philliphs where 75 bucks they cant compare it to something 300 bucks you can see reviews of 400$ beats loosing to 150$ headphones. I dont care about how good they look and they are not made for good sound. They coast about 100$ in parts and cost 300$
YOU CANT COMPARE SOMETHING THAT IS FAR OUT OF THE PRICE RANGE go and get some LSTN headphones i have the link lstnsound.co/collections/headphones
Kenny King That still has nothing to do with my comment.
+D33M0N3Y Because the general population is retarded thus making retarded decisions about which headphones they buy.
Of course I get a beats by dre ad before this video.
Looks like a paid advertisement to me.
+Mr. Taco ikr
Just saying
TEK Gaming sonys? Doubt it. Razor? I've never heard any of them.
Da Basser Razer* Razor is a kids company. And sonys gold wireless headphones are amazing. If you don't know it, doesn't mean its bad.
Beats are for fashion victoms. You can have much better headphones for this price.
ViruX victims* lern too spel
I'm gay Nice bait.
People think Beats are the best because they feel special about buying $300 headphones.
Ok
Its true because they think it shows you can afford something expensive but i would get bose and put it inside beats because beats style looks better
+Buibuiopolis Mayor so ATH m50xbl are ugly got it .-.
lRaziel1
I never said they compare in sound quality to the headphones that audiophiles orgasm over.
Beats are better, and that's why they're more expensive
No.....
+Bryce Thomas Hi. I made the video. You're wrong.
I'm not wrong, weather you mad the video or not. You making the video, has nothing to do with the fact that in the video, the majority of the people chose the beats. proving that between the two headsets, beats are better. So no, i'm not wrong.
+Bryce Thomas You're an idiot
Actually, "to be honest" you were a fan of beats for a short time. You even did a video praising them until you discovered how bad they are compared to other headphones.
In like 2009 when mkbhd thought they were good too and they both were 15-16
Cody Lamson That would contradict him saying that he has "never" been a fan of beats. He was at one point. Age doesn't matter.
I guess you're right. I doubt he was being literal though
First rule of marketing: Not the objectively superior product will win over the market but the one that is subjectively perceived as being better.
bass doesn't make music sound good though. silly kids.
Most peopole like when there is more bass
@M1ND0FM1NE got some source for that?
That's not even true whatsoever.
kineticenrage198 BASS IS LIFE
US BASSHEADS LOVE BASS
search up crazy subwoofer setups that would kill beats
kineticenrage198 It really does. One of the reasons why I always listen to bass boosted music.
why not audio technicas
yup, why not
Listening to this with my gold & white Beats :)
ArcFlash It's okay to be jealous :)
Sucks to be you :)
ArcFlash Lmao! I feel bad for YOU bud. You can't even afford Beats by Dre headphones. Oh and don't worry about me, I have enough money to buy your mother... Hell, your whole family for that matter :]
+Chase he's mad cause he can't afford them haha
***** Please, just abandon this lol. He's a spoiled brat who think's he's above everyone else because he has more money than everyone, or at least he claims.
"Never been a fan of Beats By Dre" tell that to your old Beats videos, specifically the unboxkng of the Beats Pro where you admit to being a Beats fan boy. I'll wait.
( Gone Sexual )( Gone Wrong )( In the Hood )( 2014 )( Cops Called)( Guy Killed )( Gun Pulled )( Shots Fired )( Funny )
I don't know why people like to argue for what's better....if you like music with BASS then you go with the whole new beats (not the old models) but if your into classical, jazz etc then you get something else...it's all about what you like to listen to.
Exactly.
+TheKidBart
Uh.. What if I listen to all types of music then what do I get?
+TheKidBart the new models are also shit and still not worth their price. you can give less than $100 and get Skullcandy Crushers that do the same thing as beats(bass only)
+E5m the problem with that is that your not going to be listen to all types of music.....it's simple if you like you buy and if you don't then you don't
+SapiaNt0mata I listened to the skull candy crush...the bass is good but the thing with those is that they look ugly I personally wouldn't wear them...is why I went with the beats and also because I only listen to rap/hip-hop- Reggaeton where a lot of the bass is really present
just realized thats my cousin @4:11 lol
Really
+cassy lol yeah
Really?
MidnightPikachu wth
the reason why beats are expensive is because it is highly advertised and very popular, and you have to admit that when you first open your first box to a beats product it is the best package you could open for headphones or earbuds and they ad all the money up for the advertising, packaging, and the headphones themselves are all added up and you now know why beats are expensive. If you buy beats you will never regret getting them if you treat your headphones or ear buds well
3:35 "Bigger sound" LMAOOO
l
Skull candies sound better then beats i think
I agree!
definetly
i got a pair of crushers myself
No
I can't stand skull candy headphones when I see somebody wear them the first thing I think is 1. A skateboarder 2. Trashy
bullshit adverts... alerts
don't waste your breath I would not buy beats anymore.. durability and quality are shit and
the sound is ok, though.
For anyone looking for the song here it is
Never Felt This Way - fstivl Ft. Eden (Dreams Extended mix)
thx u help so much!
I would actually rather buy a knife on cs go
Beats are really good, maybe not for the price, but they are still pretty awesome! All of you emo-rock listeners just don't appreciate beats because they're made for rap/hiphop/dubstep music, not for the music you listen to.
I'm into EDM (Monstercat) and I've tried beats (from a friend) and it dose not sound great even for dubstep
i bought the beats mixr headphones about 2 years ago.
My god..... -.-'
+Fariko Tekkas that guy
+Jeff Huang exactly. the internet is ignorant as fuck nowadays
Fariko Tekkas Nigga have you seen a beats headphones frequency chart? Shit looks like a parabola
OfficiallyMJB Tried beats before, too much bass. I couldn't hear the treble and vocals well.
