One thing that helped me recently is to play games with a lot of proximity chat and voice chat on because it humanizes the people your interacting with. Video games teach a lot of habits early on in PVE games to make you treat the enemy like an ai rather than a human. If this is ingrained in you like it is for me, then it makes reading someone much harder.
When you can get a feel and sense for that when your fighting people in ranked who dont talk, then it helps a lot

In my opinion, the key piece of advice for fighting games is that if you begin to lose matches or feel frustrated, it's best to step away from the game and return with a clear head.

True, I definitely learnt watching Wong. However, I thought watching my own losses would be painful, but I learnt so much on where my specific weaknesses were and what I should work on. It's priceless, especially when you find yourself losing to the same people regularly.

This video is so spot on. I was trying to learn Chun-Li this week, looked up Moke videos on TH-cam, and learned something new: Hazanshu can combo into cr. MP --> OD SBK --> SBK. I was so excited! Finally! A combo with decent damage that I can probably pull off myself. I hopped in the training lab, spent about an hour on it, and never once managed to make it connect online, not even in casuals 😅

A lesson I learned recently is that mistakes only exists in retrospect. when a mistake happens, the other player recognizes it as an opportunity and works to capitalize on it. theres no way you can know that what youre about to do is a mistake until you see the consequences of that decision.
listen to how top players talk about the mistakes they notice from others. they break down a situation by saying things like "i can try this next time". top players play for opportunities, and the one who wins will be the one who can sieze the most opportunities and follow through on them

Watching videos of people one rank higher than you can also be a way to pick up ideas without being overwhelming, as long as you have a critical eye towards what seems actually good vs what you're less likely to get away with as you progress

An underrated way to break plateaus is to limit test, a lot of mid level players (me included) are too focused on trying to play correctly and play too passive or don’t use enough of there characters bs

7:55 this is a really good interaction to touch on. One thing intermediate players don’t quite grasp is that players around their skill level or AWFUL at attacking. They need to focus on beating people around their level, and the easiest and most effective way to do it is to pick a lame character and allow the opponent to defeat themselves for you, because when they try to aggress when you move backwards they are GOING to make a mistake, guaranteed.

Nice in theory, but I've been locked at silver3 for months. Whenever I get close to silver4, I end up fighting a bunch of players who have multiple other characters at high level. I don't know if they're really smurfs, because they haven't broken to master, but they're definitely a lot more experienced and might be playing lower ranks to get over the frustration. Whenever I play against accounts with similar play time, it's way more balanced. Too bad I don't encounter those players most of the time.

I took this approach to chess being a beginner and watched hikaru play 1 min chess against noobs in order to see how he would navigate his openings. It got me up 200 elo in 3 days and I think it's a really good way to see how concepts you are learning can actually be applied at your level.

I recently got to diamond with akuma and something that helped me was watching vods of someone around my level, ranking up alongside me. The opponents they face are similar to the ones i do, so its just far more relevant for analysis. It also doesnt overwhelm me with information since its not a pro player on a smurf playing at a level im just simply not at yet. It just feels more doable lol.

Honestly I’ve never thought about watching pros play lower ranks. I don’t watch people stream ever. And I rarely watch non tourney game play and I think this is a really good idea. Especially for Smurf accounts right because that means the opponent won’t know who they’re playing and get Wong factored or something.

@@nunyabizwacks6711 haha yeah I know exactly what you're experiencing. @MikeyDLuffy yea i actually think the game is amazing...i guess im just frustrated. Funnily enuff i just picked up Katalina, and thought about also trying Beatrix. I started with Seox tho. For me it actually adds mental stack just the fact there are 2 ways to control. Ita hard to decide when i should use simple inputs because i do think its detrimental in this game to just disregard them, but i am more comfortable with technical inputs of course because thats what im used to, and i feel like that alone makes me use too much brain power on. And my other problem is just recognizing wtf is going on on the screen. I know that gets better with more time in, but still.

watching top players and your own fights is good but you have to be really knowledgeable for it to be. I know some high level players that are not capable of doing this as good as I am cuz I've spend year studying the game. Now i spend mostly my time in the training room an d only go to ranked to test something, my advice would be, find the rank were you are stronger and kn ow why you are and what you should be doing at that rank and practice it, also please practice your confirms and punishes, you wouldn't believe how far you can go by just cashing up the damage when you find the chance, practice against the dummy in different situations (from above, from below, crossing up, dashing in) and then practice your reactions against the CPU, you need to be a ble to do your punishes and confirms as muscle memory (antiairs too) I'm tired of watching people complain cuz they don't get better and they can't DP or punish for their own sake. once you know this and have this keep practicing then at least 10 minutes forever or they will fade down on you, now go to practice your setups and safe jumps and special situations, learn corner control, learn some prominent OSs, I could say there's ton of things to learn execution and reaction wise before you have the chance of questioning yourself on why you are not improving, pick one each week or 2 a nd when you start facing 8th or up places in tournaments then let yourself worry for anything else besides execution, for real, heres people that can't even consistently throw a fireball when they are nervous and don't know it.
