      I hada look at your Patreon and saw that you are going to make a video on the BKE sampler. How on earth do you expect to make a better video about it than this "cool dudes on the namm floor buzy looking the part to attract the ladies blurbing about sales hypes with with 1% actual info thrown into the coolness vibe laying down their thang" video th-cam.com/video/whEKpQmcO9o/w-d-xo.html ? That seems like really hard competetion. 😆

      Well... The good thing about the UNO Pro is that you don't need the software to make full use of it and therefore don't have to necessarily register it.

    • @robmusial
      @robmusial ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@gamma_noize For sure. But for the used prices I'm seeing I'd personally rather not buy a synth that I'm planning on not being able to access all the features/might not be "future proof". Plus as a Linux user it's a turn off for me if it seems like I won't even be able to get the software to work in Wine. And usually these app store style programs like Roland Cloud Manager refuse to work in Wine.
      But that's just my quirks and workflow. If someone else thinks that is a good deal for them then they'll have a pretty nice sounding instrument.

      @@robmusial don't go used. They get massively discounted regularly. The desktop version was priced at 200 EUR around Christmas... I've got it as a mobile bass machine for my travel rig -it works wonders alongside hydrasynth explorer and the cobalt 5s

    • @chriswareham
      @chriswareham ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gamma_noize Hmm, I may upgrade from my original Uno Synth if the Pro has all the parameters available directly from the hardware itself. It's a great sounding synth, but only being able to access some of the features from an extremely locked down editor is frustrating.

    I bought and sold one of these. The trick is to create an IK Account for just this license and then give the password to the new owner.
    btw, You have to have an account+license and download their software to update the firmware as well.

    I thought the intro tune was noticeably better than many other versions. The problem with IK Multimedia is that they think they are still selling software even when they are selling hardware.

    Aaah! There it is! My beloved UNO Pro! :D
    I love its sound! It's everything i want from an analog mono and then some more. It's internal effects are top notch and one of the best internal FX i've got to hear so far.
    Yeah... The software licensing is kinda shit, but that's where you can clearly see IK's roots. 😅
    The good thing is, you really don't need the editor in my opinion and you don't have to kill the resell value for it.
    One thing regarding the Desktop version:
    It gets so much flack for its capacitive keyboard, but it is what it says on the tin, a desktop sound module meant to be used with another master keybaord. The capacitve keys are just a goodie, so you can take it with you and use with an USB Power bank.
    And for a desktop module, i think, you can't get anything else as rich in features and sound for that little money. The nearest competitor might be the Dreadbox Typhon and the Typhon costs about 100 bucks more.

    FINALLY you did an episode about a synth I own. I had a good run this far. I wasn't looking for one, but someone offered me a basically new one for less than half retail. Everything you said was accurate. Especially all the crap IK do as a company ( i got nailed with the 'ownership transfer fee' when i wanted to access software ). (It should be noted you don't need to install any of their store software to make this work BTW). I actually really like this synth, its extremely versatile, it sounds great when you edit the effects to your liking. The fatar keyboard is super nice too (pity it doesn't have nearly enough knobs to be a contender for making it into a master midi controller) Its got a warm, unique character that works really well alongside other analogue mono's. The second jam you did was a really, really nice example of how lush the strings can sound from this thing. All the jams were really good this week, great work as always!

    Great Video! On the license transfer, the original owner also has to be willing to transfer the license. With that being said, it is possible to get the software by reaching out to IK. I purchased an Uno drum and Uno synth second hand from the first owner, IK did assist me and provided me download links for both pieces of software.

      I had the same experience with the non-pro synth; tech support gave me access to the software. We still have to ask though: why did I have to do that? Just put it on your website!
      If you look at the Synth Pro right now they have a "Download the free software" button at the top of the page but it doesn't work and is pretty misleading as they haven't changed the license policy AFAIK

      Microusb is cheap and plentiful, the registration cost is relatively cheap and the synth sounds frigging amazing. The complaints are nitpicking. To get this sound quality from Moog it would cost you 4 times as much. It makes a cheap tertiary unit to fill out a dawless jam setup

    • @cyshtoph
      @cyshtoph ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jamestillman5247 That's good they are cheap and plentiful because you will have to replace this shitty port every time you move the synth. The registration fee is just insulting. When I've registered my focusrite interface after circa 8 years from my purchase (I forgot about it), I got a free shitton of quality plugins and instruments that were selling for more than my interface was worth. The same deal with another one bought used.
      Lastly, yes, it sounds good, but it's not cheap. It costs the same as Cobalt, Minifreak and the Blofeld Keyboard howitzer, but is built like the Donner (nothing against Donner though). All of the above would irk me enough to think twice about buying it.

    • @frankenfrank9553
      @frankenfrank9553 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cyshtoph well, if you have a new device there is no registration fee. I got an excellent offer and bought the Uno Synth Pro Desktop new for 215€. That actually is pretty cheap for what the synth offers. It works great with a good midi keyboard. So you don't have to do without aftertouch and other features if you have the desktop version. I also got two "free-to-pick" SE Versions of IKMs software (e.g. Modo Drum/Bass, T-Racks5, etc). The fee refers to when you sell the device or buy it used. You have to buy it from the previous owner (google IK-Multimedia license transfer fee) if you want it registered on your IKM account (to get free presets and the editor I guess). However, I am most afraid that the micro-USB connection will be defective at some point, which I have already had with several smartphones. Then the device is virtually unusable and a repair is difficult, I think. So it's best to disconnect and connect the synthesizer from the power supply unit as little as possible.

    I bought the desktop version of this and a Korg XD recently. I've been playing on the Uno Pro almost exclusively. Even if it's a bit menu divey it sounds so good and the effects are stellar. Every single sound I can think of I can get out of Uno Pro. It's that good. If IK Multimedia ever bring out a poly version of this I will get it day one. I'm very impressed with this little unit.

    There are two audio software companies I tried to support, and quickly regretted: Waves and IKM. Neither will ever get a penny from me. I almost took IKM to court for installing Custom Shop on my Mac while installing TRacks. Apparently, uploading software onto my computer and spamming me is their right. Eventually, they refunded my TRacks Max purchase, and we parted ways. FUIKM!!!

    The desktop version of the USP at its current price of $270 is probably one of the best deals for an analog synth on the market today. Yes, it's crappy plastic, and the labeling is hard to read, but its sounds damn good! Sure, I'd love to own a Sequential Pro-3, but the USP sounds nearly as good and has 90% of the same functionality for literally 1/7th the cost. This thing is great for throwing in a bag to take on vacation or play around with in a hotel room on business travel. I frequently pair and control this with a Roland Fantom 6 and it feels fantastic to add real analog sound to the Fantom for only $270. Or for some really travel friendly jamming, I pair this with a Roland JD-Xi and use the USP for the analog channel instead of the crappy/limited analog on the JD-Xi. In summary, a relatively inexpensive and easy way to add some analog goodness to your current synth rig...
