The middle piece that the material covers in the cockpit has Cords that you are supposed to click into the seatbelt clips in the cockpit. They aren't a drink holder.
That sure seems to be a very well engineered solution for folks that don’t have the storage space for a kayak. Or for those that don’t want to, or can’t load a kayak onto their vehicle! Very cleaver system this company has for securing the sections together and for the way the sections “nest” for transport and storage! I’m old enough to remember the Folboats and the Klepper kayaks that had a rubber or neoprene skin that fit snugly over a wood or aluminum frame. They were quite fiddly, and it was time consuming assembling them. This company has found a completely different solution for a traveling boat, and it seems to work very well! Thanks Cliff for an excellent revue!
Hey, you are welcome, Gary! Have a great weekend! Pakayak Bluefin 142 - pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff My review of the Bluefin 142 - th-cam.com/video/-QKkW4ObnfE/w-d-xo.html
I have the Bluefin 14 and love it for kayaking in Michigan. I paddle with people who have 17' composite sea kayaks on the Great Lakes and have no problem keeping up with them. One thing that is rarely mentioned about the Pakayak is the storage capacity which is 221 liters. This is about the same as a NDK Romany Explorer expedition kayak.
Thanks for watching and commenting Mark! If the original 14 had 221 liters, then the new 142 has even more space. Where did you find the liter information? I don’t see anything on their website about that….. Considering a large backpackers backpack only holds 70 liters, 221 is a bunch! Thanks for sharing!
@@KayakCliffpaddling magazine posted a vid about this kayak and the guy in vid said the cubic inches of the front and back compartment and it came out to 211 liters total
@Tentlifer good to know, thank you for sharing! Keep in mind also, there is a huge amount of storing space behind the seat back in the cockpit. Much more than in a traditional touring kayak. Good extra storage there as well.
Pakayak doesn't carry the neoprene spray skirt which is what you need in choppy water. The nylon might be good for a light rain but that's about it. Seals carries neoprene and they are quite popular.
thanks for this great review. It sold me based on not only features of the boat but also how much easier it will be to travel with these vs traditional kayaks. Just purchased two using the affiliate link above and can't wait to get them. hope to see you do an adventure video in Michigan sometime! thanks Cliff!

Cliff, I love your videos and reviews of this boat. I just found out about this kayak, I was looking at the Sea Eagle 393rl RazorLite Pro and pretty much sold on that because I need the portability and ease of storage of it but now, after seeing this, lol more choices! I will only be buying whatever I go with next season, just got a 2023 Sylvansport Go camper so there were a few extra expenses with that purchase so I will wait for the kayak, not to mention, whatever I go with, I have to get a second one for the wife. But this review was very helpful as always so again, keep the videos coming, it is appreciated!
Thanks for watching and commenting Andrew! Those Sylvan Sports are very nice, congratulations!!! You can’t go wrong with the PaddleSki or the RazorLite. Both are my main go-to’s for paddling adventures. It just comes down to, do you want a more open, sit on top experience OR do you want a more traditional sit inside touring kayak experience? The Pakayak is a little bit faster to paddle, while the RazorLite is lighter to carry. Both set up in about the same time. I love them both and USE them both. @@KayakCliff at the moment I’m trying to sell my eddyline Sitka St (cockpit too small) and was considering a BOTE inflatable kayak but after watching a few pakayak videos (yours especially) I’ve reconsidered getting one instead! If I do I’ll be sure to use your link!
I suppose it could happen, I have never had any problem with anything snagging on the clasps, they are nice and smooth. Have you seen they have a new fishing model on kickstarter coming out. I wonder if it will be a sit on top?
I really like this kayak! I currently have a SE 393RL (you helped me seal the deal with all of your information). When I bought it, I was also towing a 37' 5th wheel and it was a pain to get my old kayak up on the roof of the truck (3/4 ton diesel 4x4). However, I had plenty of truck bed space around the 5th wheel hitch, so the SE made total sense. This pakayak would have been high on my list back then; that said...I sold the truck and 5th wheel and went back to tent camping with a Subaru Outback. There is NO room for the SE when the Outback is fully loaded. LOL. Especially when my 81 year old mom comes along. I have to lug a MUCH bigger tent and a larger air mattress for her. Now I'm back back to a hardshell, but I'd like a sit-in this time. Looking at the Delta 12.10 and the Eddyline (either Equinox or Sandpiper). The Equinox and this Pakayak have hit the sweet spot for the cockpit. Not so big that you couldn't reach a deck back, and not so small that the knees scrape, and my little kayaking buddy (a 15lb mutt) could still fit. Oh, and the 14ft length is the Mama Bear "just right" for me. Thanks, as always, for an informative review.
Hi again!!! I definitely wouldn’t get rid of the SE 393RL - You’ll find uses for it on many adventures. I truly love and use the RazorLite a lot, I also use the Pakayak, it’s a great boat too! Biggest difference between the Equinox and the Pakayak, is the cockpit is even more roomy and easy to get into + the Pakayak breaks down to a 4’ high stack. This is MUCH easier to store when your adventure is over. I really had having to find space to store full sized, one piece rigid kayaks. I wish you the best in your search, let me know if you have any other questions. My contact info is at kayakcliff.com
@@KayakCliff Yes! The storage factor is absolutely valid! Hauling and storage are quite the conundrum. LOL I have no room to haul the SE, and just barely room to store the rigid kayak. As always, I appreciate your input.
It’s the best idea I’ve seen so far for a portable kayak. Your right about the cost savings aspect of owning one. The only downfall I see is the seat, it doesn’t look very comfortable. Thanks Cliff
Hi Terry, as always, thank you for watching, and commenting! With the seats simplicity, I thought that it might be pretty uncomfortable. I actually find that the seat is more comfortable than many other one piece kayaks that I paddle. I am definitely able to paddle an hour and a half without any uncomfortableness and I think that is pretty good! It is a good quality memory foam, and it really does give and form to your backside. Safe adventuring out there!
I really like my pakayak. One issue I had though, that I haven’t seen any reviewer address, is the potential for a little bit of leaking at the stern end of the boat. If you put any pressure on the rear-most piece, mine has the smallest bit of flex in that joint that can allow a little water in the rear bulkhead area. I noticed this after launching from a ramp without realizing that the rear of the boat was still on the concrete, and I had some water in the rear compartment. This isn’t a deal breaker, since launching this way isn’t really correct in the first place, but it was something I noticed. I don’t think this would ever cause any issues for most people, but just something to be mindful of when launching this boat in less-than-ideal launching locations.
Hey 👋 Tom - Thank you so much for watching and commenting! The first time I used my Pakayak, I launched from one of those plastic kayak launch docks where you pull yourself along rollers as you descend into the water. I too had just a few drops of H2O in the bow and rear bulkheads. Not even enough to worry about. No other water came in during my 2 hour paddle. I have not used a roller style kayak launch sense and have had ZERO water in my bulkheads! I think it had something to do with the rollers flexing the splice locations ever so slightly, so as to let a drop of water in. Surprised me, because this boat is the stiffest plastic kayak I have ever paddled, and that is a good thing!
@usablellc6735 Ken whiting from paddle tv is a champion paddle. He said he would recommend class 1 or 2 class rapids but not more than that. However I've seen him in it in fairly aggressive oceans, and it did just fine. There were large swells.
Hi John - The do sell replacement seals on their website, but I don’t really see where they will wear out that easily. They are silicone based and durable. Now, I store my stuff in a climate controlled storage locker, which makes my stuff last for ever. If you store it in a hot Texas garage or attic, then I could see where anything could break down over time.
I can believe that! Just the other day I met with somebody who had a bluefin in the back of their ultra compact Toyota Yaris automobile. It fit like a glove, plus there was still room for an inflatable paddleboard, rolled up next to it. Thank you for this review! I have a SE Razorlite 393 and I'm thinking about getting a Pakayak. May I ask: 1) How do they compare in terms of primary stability 2) How do they compare in terms of speed/performance? Thanks!
Hi 👋 There! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! My two favorite go-to’s for fast, high performing touring kayaks are the Pakayak and the RazorLite. I like them both because one is a open cockpit and sit on top style boat, while the other is sit inside. Both have their advantages for the type of adventure you want to go on. I really like how the Pakayak is a TRUE touring kayak, with the same look and feel as a one-piece sit inside touring kayak. Both the RazorLite and Pakayak are similar in speed, but I think the Pakayak will be slightly faster in a race. I actually plan on doing a speed comparison video between the two. I would say the RazorLite has a more stable feel, but that is only because it is 28’’ wide, while the pakayak is 24’’ wide. For the width of boat that each one is, their respective stabilities are what they should be when compared to other similar boats. Both Primary and secondary stability are great in both boats. Thanks for another great review Cliff! What are your thoughts on this boat as opposed to other portable kayak solutions, discounting price altogether? I have two older plastic sea kayaks that are great, but a pain to take on trips for all the reasons you mentioned. I want to paddle on up to Class 2 rivers and protected waterways (mostly day trips) and often have to drag my boat over shallow spots that I worry could tear up an inflatable. I am in a constant quandry as to what the best solution would be. Thank you for your help!
Hi Gil - As long as they are inflatable, foldable, packable or stackable - that’s the boat(s) for me. I REALLY like the Pakayak and how it looks and functions just like a standard touring kayak. The Pakayak will definitely be one of my two go-to’s for the majority of my paddling. I would say the Pakayak is the fastest that I paddle, with the RazorLite coming in a VERY close second. I actually need to do a video comparing the two in terms of performance. Basically, if you are looking for more of a sit inside classic touring kayak experience, the Pakayak is it and it is a joy to paddle. If you want more of a open cockpit “sit-on-top” kayaking experience without sacrificing performance, the RazorLite is it,also a joy to paddle. I have had the RazorLite down several rivers where I was scraping the bottom with no visible wear and tear on the hull. Of course, the Pakayak will do extremely well in shallow rivers, you’ll just get that harmless “rash” on the bottom of your hull. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions! You can also contact me via my contact information on my kayakcliff.com website.

Hi there, Craig, thank you so much for watching and asking. The Pakayak tracks very nicely while paddling. It does do fairly well, edging for turning left and right. If you keep your body centered, it tracks fairly well after paddling with no strokes. All in all, I like the performance of this boat! Especially in the light of the fact that it is six pieces that go together to form one. It's an amazing feat of Engineering. I have paddled other kayaks, that when you stop paddling, the kayak automatically starts going left or right on its own as if it has its own mind. That is not the case with this boat. I'm not saying it won't drift a little, but it's not too bad at all. I hope this helps, stay safe out there! thank you very much for the great video. the front section at entry seems quite high. I think you have to hold the paddle higher compared to other boats. Do you have a problem with that? did you notice it too? I already have the oru bay and am considering buying the pakayak as well. I live on the Baltic Sea.
Hi Stefan - I actually like the high cockpit in the front of the Pakayak BlueFin 142. Makes it very easy to get in and out of the boat. It give me plenty of room for my feet and gear. I don’t think it inhibits me in any way with regards to paddling. I prefer the Pakayak and the Sea Eagle RazorLite over the ORU kayak always. I had an Oru Bay and Coast. Nice review. I've been fascinated by this boat for a while. I was wondering, is there enough extra room inside the closed bag/stacked sections for a pfd, a primary and backup paddle (4 piece euro or 2 piece greenland), a bilge pump, skirt and maybe a small drybag with random small stuff (first aid kid, radio, sunscreen etc)? I'm curious if there's enough space to have not just the kayak, but everything needed to go kayaking within the one bag. That would be a big bonus to have the full setup in one bag, even if it's slightly heavier, than multiple bags.
Hey 👋 , thank you for watching, and commenting! Honestly, they designed that stacking kayak package to be so efficient that there is not really any room to put anything. I think if you took a PFD and unzipped it and wrapped it around the kayak, you would be able to zip up the bag. I’m not sure how big the 4-piece paddle pieces are. Don’t think you could get it in there. Hope this helps! Safe adventuring out there. Hi 👋 there Trish, thank you so much for watching and commenting! Maybe next time I’m out in it, I will do a quick TH-cam short, showing me getting in and out. It’s basically identical to getting into other touring kayaks, it’s just that the cockpit is so much more open that for me, that it was much easier to slide my legs 🦵(and probably your knee) down into the boat without scraping the front of the cockpit. I bought this exact kayak and this video made me help a lot making the decision. I enjoy the Pakayak a lot. Fit perfectly in my car. Thank you for this detailed video! One question: how did you mount the action camera on the Pakayak? Is the plastic capable to keep a suction mount steady for a while?
I'm glad you enjoy your new kayak, thank you for watching my videos and commenting! Here is the mount that I use. It's sticks very securely and I never have a problem with it coming off once attached. a.co/d/aKSSQef
Hi Jeff, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this! I tell you, my two most favorite go-to paddling boats are the RazorLite and the PaddleSki. If I’m in the mood for more of a sit on top, open kayaking experience - reach for the RazorLite. If I want more of a sit inside, classic touring kayak experience, I use the PaddleSki. The PaddleSki is a little faster due to it’s 24’’ width and I love the design! They are both awesome boats. I would be really interested in learning how this kayak would perform in a seaway. I see that your use of it is pretty limited to flatwater, I'm considering purchasing it for paddling in open base in New England. Do you have any thoughts about how it might perform in such conditions?
Hi 👋 There! Thank you for watching and commenting! Pakayak pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff So far I have only videos on flat water. I have had my pakayak out on rough lakes and it performed beautifully! There will be videos coming on that in the future! For now, here is a Pakayak “pak” member up in Michigan, he has a great open water / surfing video on the Pakayak. With a skirt on, I think you can really expand your adventures to open water without any issues at all. Like I said in my review, the pakayak is a very stiff boat, it doesn’t get all “jellowy” in the bottom like many one piece HDPE kayaks. Here is the link to the open water / surf video from Mark Thrasher - Pakayak pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff
Check out paddle tv. Ken Whiting is a champion paddler/instructor for the ACA, and he's taken the pakayak to different countries and in different ocean settings.
Thanks for another great review. Since the Pakayak is designed for touring, I was wondering how maneuverable it is? In other words, would you have any trouble getting around in a smaller body of water or river?
Hi Michael - Pakayak Bluefin 142 6-piece touring kayak pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff Thanks for watching and asking! In my opinion, the Pakayak is built with just the right amount of hull pitch and chines to encourage built in straight tracking, while still being plenty maneuverable. Some touring kayaks I have been in have a hard angle chine going down the length of the hull, which makes them supreme trackers, but horrible for turning. That is not the case with the Pakayak, I think it has a good balance of both tracking and maneuverability! Take care and safe adventuring out there!
@@KayakCliff Thanks for getting back to me about the maneuverability. I appreciate it. One other question that came to mind concerns the size of the paddler. It looks like the front of the cockpit is pretty high. Do you think someone who is 5' or 5'1" would be able to paddle it without hitting the kayak while they paddle or without having to change or modify their stroke?
Hi there Michael - I polled all the members of both of the Facebook Pakayak forums and asked them your question. I had about six or seven answers from people that are 5 foot to 5 foot three and not one of them has trouble with the high cockpit and paddling performance. I think you are good to go! Let me know if you have any other questions :-)
@@KayakCliff Sorry for the extra work, but I really appreciate you asking the members of the forums. That will be helpful information to know if/when we buy another kayak. We are enjoying our Sea Eagle FastTrack 385, but are considering upgrading to either a RazorLite 473 or Pakayaks in the future.
My two go-to’s are Sea Eagle & Pakayak - both companies make an awesome boat(s). I love the inflatable, foldable, packable, stackable approach to my paddle sports passion. :-)
Hi Andy - Thank you for watching and your comments!!! If your interested, here are two other adventure videos in the Pakayak! I really love this kayak and how it is a true touring kayak. You sacrifice nothing in this touring kayak and gain all the conveniences that a 3.5’ tall packaged kayak offers! Truly and awesome invention! I am trying to choose between the Pak and a Point 65 Mercury, which appears more stable and with an option to make a tandem. However, I like the look of the Pak better. Any thoughts or input?
Hi 👋 Kathy - your comment is a common sentiment that I often hear. The Pakayak is a better looking kayak, perhaps, because it most resembles an actual touring kayak. If you are looking for a touring kayak - one that is fast, efficient paddling, and highly maneuverable - while still being easily, storable and transportable, the Pakayak is it! From the reviews that I have heard, the point 65 will not give you the same paddling experience as a real touring kayak or Pakayak. Being able to turn the 65 mercury into a tandem kayak is appealing, hence the enhanced stability. The 65 mercury looks like a well designed, quality boat, however, if you are looking for more of a touring kayak experience - I would go with a Pakayak. I have had several one piece hard shell touring kayaks prior to getting the Pakayak. I really do not see any sacrifice in the pakayak when compared to a real traditional hard shell one piece kayak. Here are all of my videos on the Packayak. If you have any other questions, by all means, don’t hesitate to reach out. My personal contact information is on my website at kayakcliff.com. As I was watching your video, I received one of two packages from Pakayak at my door, then I went to FedEx to pick up the kayak. I brought it into my apartment and immediately assembled it and sat in it to check fit. I am 6' 3" and pushing 240. As you stated, cockpit is large enough to get in easily. I also found that with my footpegs fully extended, I had enough legroom to sit comfortably. now I have to get out and buy a paddle and PFD along with some other accessories. I did get the sprayskirt and hip and thigh pads sold by Pakayak. I am curious about the length of paddle that you use, I was thinking about a 230 for me. i appreciate your video with the unpacking and also packing and your views inside the bag were spot on to repack the kayak. I can't wait to get it on the water, just a little cool and wet here in Washington state this time of year.
Hi Bill - Congratulations on your new Pakayak!!! You are going to Love it! I bet you have some awesome paddling destinations up in Washington state! I would definitely go with a 230 cm paddle, that is what I use and it fits me perfectly when taking into account my height, arm length and kayak width. Hope this helps, safe adventuring out there!
amzn.to/3Cun8zD You can get the ball with a quarter 20 thread on the end of it or a standard GoPro mount on the end of it. I use both. This is what I suction cup to hard shell kayaks that have smooth surfaces. amzn.to/3Cun8zD
Make sure if you do any rolling or you want real cockpit protection from water, your best bet is neoprene. Nylon is pretty limited to what is capable of doing so far as preventing water from entering the cockpit.
Hi, Cliff. I will appreciate if u will find time to give me your short opinion how this kayak suitable for 2+ Class whitewater. And is it rigid enough to be caried fully loaded by two men?
Hello 👋 - images.app.goo.gl/uSvzDiRGxsrwxRd1A The Pakayak is very strong 💪, much stiffer in my opinion than most one piece 14 foot touring plastic kayaks. I would probably only feel comfortable going into class one Rapids with this boat. Although, with some practice, I think class two might be achievable with plenty of experience. You will not have any problem at all, carrying this boat fully loaded with two people. Again, it is a very rigid boat. my biggest concern is that extra space behind the seat in the cockpit. IF you get rolled in rougher water then doing a buddy rescue where you hold the bow up in the air will leave a significantly larger volume of water in the cockpit than if that rear cockpit was right there behind you. i get h storage idea - but i store inside the bow and stern compartments - or a sealed day hatch. Having trained rescue techniques in rough water as part of instructor training - that larger volume behind the seat seems like a water trap for rescue settings. but that seems like my only real concern for this btw: you car gets 3-4 mpg worse with kayak on the roof?? I have car that drops , with my two on the roof from 40 to 28. i used to scuba dive in the same car and even with 400lbs of teaching gear i got 38-40mpg... but with 2x 40-45lb kayaks on the roof i get 30-32 most of the time... and can be even worse! they KILL the aerodynamics...
I think I have far less miles per gallon drop than you do, because of my big Ford F150 truck with a topper on the back. The size ratio of kayak to truck is less than kayak too small car. It definitely impacts the performance of the small car more. From past trips, I have only noticed 3 to 4 mile per gallon loss, which is too much for me!
The trak kayak is definitely the highest performing model, although, the Pakayak would be a close second. The Ou coast doesn't even come close in comparison to either the Pakayak or the trak IMHO
@KayakCliff I agree I got a tuck teck but would love this for something a little less calm but I dont think im sold on the price yet witch is too bad because I love this and portability is a big deal for me:p

A recreational kayak will never compare to a sea kayak/ touring kayak. I have paddled both. A sea kayak is slender and much faster. It also has bulkheads that most rec kayaks don't have. The pakayak is on sale for black friday, they have shaved off 300 dollars and offer free shipping and handling in the US.
Hi Randy - I am 185 pounds and I find the Pakayak to have the same primary and secondary stability as any other touring kayak that I’ve ever been in. How much time have you spent in yours? As you become more familiar with the boat, your body will learn to recognize and counteract the boats innuendos and movements. It definitely gets easier as you spend more time in the boat. Is yours the Pakayak 140 or 142?
Hi Jacob, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I had an ORU Bay and an ORU Coast as my first portable kayaks. I used them for about 1.5 years, then quickly moved over to Sea Eagle inflatable’s, and now Pakayak. They are my go-to portable products and fit my needs much better. Actually, portable, break down products are all that I use now. Safe adventuring out there!

Pakayak Bluefin 142 affiliate link - pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff My review of the Bluefin 142 - th-cam.com/video/-QKkW4ObnfE/w-d-xo.html
They are very nice boats. At 58 - 59 lbs. they are heavy, but not any different than any other 14’ rotomolded plastic touring kayak. Pakayak has reduced the weight of their Bluefin and it is now only 49 lbs! I might sell mine too and get the new lighter model.
I am 6 foot with a 34 inch inseam. My feet are flat up against the baldhead and I guess I fit perfectly. Anybody any taller with a longer inseam might have some difficulty.
One of the better review video’s on the net.
Great shots, steady filming and great narrative. Thank you.
This is by far the best review on the Pakayak. Even better than all the ones from Pakayak themselves.
The middle piece that the material covers in the cockpit has
Cords that you are supposed to click into the seatbelt clips in the cockpit. They aren't a drink holder.
At min 17:36 I saw a dolphin in the background to your left!!!!!
Cliff I got the same color!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, plus your insights! Safe adventuring out there in 2023!

My review of the Bluefin 142 - th-cam.com/video/-QKkW4ObnfE/w-d-xo.html
I have the Bluefin 14 and love it for kayaking in Michigan. I paddle with people who have 17' composite sea kayaks on the Great Lakes and have no problem keeping up with them. One thing that is rarely mentioned about the Pakayak is the storage capacity which is 221 liters. This is about the same as a NDK Romany Explorer expedition kayak.
Thanks for watching and commenting Mark! If the original 14 had 221 liters, then the new 142 has even more space. Where did you find the liter
information? I don’t see anything on their website about that….. Considering a large backpackers backpack only holds 70 liters, 221 is a bunch! Thanks
for sharing!
I subscribed!
This is the best demo of assimilate a Pakayak. 👍👍
Thank you so much SCUBA trucker!
Pakayak doesn't carry the neoprene spray skirt which is what you need in choppy water. The nylon might be good for a light rain but that's about it. Seals carries neoprene and they are quite popular.
You did a phenomenal job explaining everything! Wow! So thorough, and your boat is a beauty! Ty!
Thank You so much for your kind words! Have a great weekend!

It just comes down to, do you want a more open, sit on top experience OR do you want a more traditional
sit inside touring kayak experience? The Pakayak is a little bit faster to paddle, while the RazorLite is lighter to carry. Both set up in about the same time.
I love them both and USE them both. I’ll put links to all my adventure videos below in both boats.

Love this concept!! Appartment dwellers take note. Question: do the clasps risk tearing drybags when stuffed in the hatches?
I suppose it could happen, I have never had any problem with anything snagging on the clasps, they are nice and smooth. Have you seen they
have a new fishing model on kickstarter coming out.
I truly love and use the RazorLite a lot, I also use the
Pakayak, it’s a great boat too! Biggest difference between the Equinox and the Pakayak, is the cockpit is even more roomy and easy to get into + the Pakayak
breaks down to a 4’ high stack. This is MUCH easier to store when your adventure is over. I really had having to find space to store full sized, one piece rigid
kayaks.
Ive had 10' , 12' and 14' kayaks. Every jump in length has been a big jump in glide and tracking.
The first time I used my Pakayak, I launched from one of those plastic kayak launch
docks where you pull yourself along rollers as you descend into the water. I too had just a few drops of H2O in the bow and rear bulkheads. Not even
enough to worry about. No other water came in during my 2 hour paddle. I have not used a roller style kayak launch sense and have had ZERO water in
my bulkheads! I think it had something to do with the rollers flexing the splice locations ever so slightly, so as to let a drop of water in. Surprised me,
because this boat is the stiffest plastic kayak I have ever paddled, and that is a good thing!
Do you have any thoughts about how this kayak would perform in somewhat rougher conditions?
@usablellc6735 Ken whiting from paddle tv is a champion paddle. He said he would recommend class 1 or 2 class rapids but not more than that. However I've seen him in it in fairly aggressive oceans, and it did just fine. There were large swells.
Great video! do those water seals eventually need replacement down the line?
Hi John - The do sell replacement seals on their website, but I don’t really see where they will wear out that easily. They are silicone based and durable. Now,
I store my stuff in a climate controlled storage locker, which makes my stuff last for ever. If you store it in a hot Texas garage or attic, then I could see where
anything could break down over time.
I fit the Bluefin 142 in the backseat of my Mustang which is surprising because passengers don’t even fit in the backseat.

Both have their advantages for the type of
adventure you want to go on. I really like how the Pakayak is a TRUE touring kayak, with the same look and feel as a one-piece sit inside touring
kayak. Both the RazorLite and Pakayak are similar in speed, but I think the Pakayak will be slightly faster in a race. I actually plan on doing a speed
comparison video between the two. I would say the RazorLite has a more stable feel, but that is only because it is 28’’ wide, while the pakayak is
24’’ wide. For the width of boat that each one is, their respective stabilities are what they should be when compared to other similar boats. Both
Primary and secondary stability are great in both boats.

@@KayakCliff Thank you!! This is exactly the kind of information that I was looking for :)
I REALLY like the Pakayak and how it looks and functions
just like a standard touring kayak. The Pakayak will definitely be one of my two go-to’s for the majority of my paddling. I would say the Pakayak is the fastest
that I paddle, with the RazorLite coming in a VERY close second. I actually need to do a video comparing the two in terms of performance. Basically,
if you are looking for more of a sit inside classic touring kayak experience, the Pakayak is it and it is a joy to paddle. Tell me about left/right drift when you stop paddling & just coast?

Hey 👋 there! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
thank you very much for the great video. the front section at entry seems quite high.
I did not like their paddling performance or the build quality. You can do much better in my opinion with the Pakayak and the
Sea Eagle. Here are the links with my adventure videos in each!

You said getting in and out is a breeze but could you demo it pls & thanks 😊
Hi 👋 there Trish, thank you so much for watching and commenting! Maybe next time I’m out in it, I will do a quick TH-cam short, showing me getting in and out. It’s basically identical to getting into other touring kayaks, it’s just that the cockpit is so much more open that for me, that it was much easier to slide my legs 🦵(and probably your knee) down into the boat without scraping the front of the cockpit. Wow! Great video and an amazing kayak design. How does this paddle compared to the Sea Eagle 393RL?
Hi Jeff, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this! I tell you, my two most favorite go-to paddling boats are the RazorLite and the PaddleSki.
If I’m in the mood for more of a sit on top, open kayaking experience - reach for the RazorLite. If I want more of a sit inside, classic touring kayak experience,
I use the PaddleSki. The PaddleSki is a little faster due to it’s 24’’ width and I love the design! They are both awesome boats. If you want the classic
sit inside / touring kayak experience in a boat that is actually stiffer than a traditional rotomolded one-piece touring kayak - get the Pakayak. You’ll really love it!

Pakayak
pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff
So far I have only videos on flat water. I have had my pakayak out on rough lakes and it performed beautifully! There will be videos coming on that in the
future! For now, here is a Pakayak “pak” member up in Michigan, he has a great open water / surfing video on the Pakayak. With a skirt on, I think you can
really expand your adventures to open water without any issues at all. Like I said in my review, the pakayak is a very stiff boat, it doesn’t get all “jellowy”
in the bottom like many one piece HDPE kayaks. Here is the link to the open water / surf video from Mark Thrasher - Pakayak
pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff
Check out paddle tv. Ken Whiting is a champion paddler/instructor for the ACA, and he's taken the pakayak to different countries and in different ocean settings.
Thanks for another great review. Since the Pakayak is designed for touring, I was wondering how maneuverable it is? In other words, would you have any trouble getting around in a smaller body of water or river?
Hi Michael -
Pakayak Bluefin 142 6-piece touring kayak
pakayak.com/?ref=kayakcliff
Thanks for watching and asking! In my opinion, the Pakayak is built with just the right amount of hull pitch and chines to encourage
built in straight tracking, while still being plenty maneuverable. Some touring kayaks I have been in have a hard angle chine going down the length
of the hull, which makes them supreme trackers, but horrible for turning. That is not the case with the Pakayak, I think it has a good balance of
both tracking and maneuverability!

@@KayakCliff Just curious, what kind of mount and camera do you use for your videos? I would like to record my trips once I get on the water.
amzn.to/3Cun8zD
You can get the ball with a quarter 20 thread on the end of it or a standard GoPro mount on the end of it.
Hello 👋 - images.app.goo.gl/uSvzDiRGxsrwxRd1A
The Pakayak is very strong 💪, much stiffer in my opinion than most one piece 14 foot touring plastic kayaks. I would probably only feel comfortable going into class one Rapids with this boat. Although, with some practice, I think class two might be achievable with plenty of experience. You will not have any problem at all, carrying this boat fully loaded with two people. Again, it is a very rigid boat.

@@KayakCliff Thanks a lot for this perfect explanation!
my biggest concern is that extra space behind the seat in the cockpit.
Having trained rescue techniques in rough water as part of instructor training - that larger volume behind the seat seems like a water trap for rescue settings.
but that seems like my only real concern for this
btw:

@@KayakCliff thx for the reply. I agree - my car is a small Chevy Volt - so the kayaks have a larger effect than your big truck!
@garmrdmr I'm amazed by the mpg difference though. That's HUGE on smaller cars. You're still getting better mpg than my truck though!
@@KayakCliff thats why i sold my avalanche to get a volt ! :)
Your videos are real nice. You can even just listen to the audio whist doing jobs around the house, which isn’t that common
Thank you so much @carfamily5701 I hope you all have a great weekend!
It would be awesome to get a pakayak, oru coast, trek matchup
The trak kayak is definitely the highest performing model, although, the Pakayak would be a close second. The Ou coast doesn't even come close in comparison to either the Pakayak or the trak IMHO
Soo when are they going to do this with a recrational kayak thats in my buget!?
It’s a wonderful invention, and it works awesome! Yes, brands like pelican need to get on board and create one that suits a larger audience.
@KayakCliff I agree I got a tuck teck but would love this for something a little less calm but I dont think im sold on the price yet witch is too bad because I love this and portability is a big deal for me:p
I have two favorite kayaks that are portable and break down and function as high-performance touring, quality kayaks. Packayak, is obviously one of the favorites, and the RazorLite is the other. Both are high-quality and high-performance.

@@KayakCliff okay sounds good thanks!
I love my Pakayak but I have found it to be a bit too tippy! I have flipped it several times and it's a bit unnerving!😳
I wish I'd known about pakayak before I bought my oru
Hi Jacob, thank you so much for watching and commenting.
I had an ORU Bay and an ORU Coast as my first portable kayaks. I used them for about 1.5 years, then quickly moved over to Sea Eagle inflatable’s, and now Pakayak. They are my go-to portable products and fit my needs much better. Actually, portable, break down products are all that I use now. Safe adventuring out there!
I am sold!
That's great! They have recently improved the bluefin! It is now 49 pounds, about 10 pounds lighter than when I did this video! If you ever do end up purchasing one, here's my affiliate link. It just gets me a small commission back to help support my channel and video production. Thanks and God bless!

You need to get yours right now if possible. They have their black Friday sale...$300 off and free shipping if you are in the US
@tranquility9325 thanks for the tip!
They don't bother to include the towel anymore... so if you do get this, be sure to use your own towel.
At 17:03 I see that dolphin!
Pretty cool but here in Sweden the pakayak is 3500 dollars lmao it's a bit too much
Oh wow, that’s crazy! Must be all of the import value added taxes and duties coming into the country.
See if they have a black friday sale.
Nice boat But it is heavy but only 60 pounds I have one for sale
They are very nice boats. At 58 - 59 lbs. they are heavy, but not any different than any other 14’ rotomolded plastic touring kayak. Pakayak has
reduced the weight of their Bluefin and it is now only 49 lbs! I might sell mine too and get the new lighter model.
@@KayakCliff The boat needs more room in the cockpit for your legs
I am 6 foot with a 34 inch inseam. My feet are flat up against the baldhead and I guess I fit perfectly. Anybody any taller with a longer inseam might have some difficulty.
They shaved off 10 lbs
