      EA hands down. I grew up on EA and it just had a fun factor that these new 2K games just don't have for me. Really hoping it is as good and polished as the trailers we have seen make it look. Once I found out EA was dropping a new game I didn't even bother picking up 2K23, just patiently waiting.

      I've already got 2K so I may try the EA PGA on EA Play, but I'm solidly in the 2K camp - have been since the TGC days. Everything equal, the fact that 2K has the course creator and an endless supply of phenomenal (and some not as much!) courses is what does it for me.

    Still my favorite golf title is Tiger Woods PGA tour 2005. The commentary, the in-flight spin control and most epic part which was when you nail the timing on a tee shot to have the slow-mo banger send you on your way.
    Ive bought plenty of golfing titles between then and now but I still keep going back to 2005.

      Very well could be the case. I’m sure they will have their own flaws too but I wouldn’t be surprised if they knocked it out of the park. Back when Rory was made there was no competition so the product suffered. Knowing they are going directly against their biggest competitor in 2k and their former signature athlete in tiger they know there is a steep hill to climb. With that being said I’m willing to bet they have dedicated the resources to make sure it’s off high quality. 🤞

      30fps, no weather, hot shots golf animations, power boost/spin arcade controls. You know those will be turned on online. Idk just yet. The lack of gameplay shown right now is kind of concerning to me considering the game releases in a 3 weeks. Courses look good and player swings look good. Minus the chipping and clunky bunker animations. I grew up playing tw games and loved them. Was even ranked inside the global top 100 in tw12. I play 2k currently a lot and enjoy. But im ready for a change and something new. But it is EA, and i dont trust them hence why i did not preorder. Fingers crossed the gameplay is better than Rory but it looks very similar

    Best and worst of each:
    2k: Best = More realistic gameplay, Custom courses, Worst=commentary and extremely complex and convoluted upgrade/fittings system.
    EA: Best = Graphics, physics, good variety of courses. Worst=Player progression, "Pro Pass" (which let's face it it's a Pay-To-Win system that allows you to buy your way to a better character.
    Head to head competition among developers. Responsive development teams. 2 year development cycles. Imagine if they did this with football? Madden might be slightly playable.
    I have no problem with the 2k career mode. The problem is that the system of skill points, fittings, fit fees is so complex and convoluted that it's hard to level up your player. Plus 2k is extremely stingy with currency. Truth is I go back and forth between the two. I use EA when I want the career mode, but for casual golf I still give 2k the slight edge because of custom courses.

    • @Kilbride10
      @Kilbride10  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure the player likeness and playing with personalities in 2k is very poor. I just hope EA's simulation difficulty is as punishing as 2K's. I think the set dressing will be much better, and if they can just match that gameplay then they'll get the hardcore players on-side too.
    It's genuinely so satisfying to go under par on the full sim level in 2K. I feel an actual sense of accomplishment for say, getting top 10s in events. My proudest steam achievement, and the one I worked hardest for, is genuinely the 'shoot level par or better on Legend difficulty' from 2k21.

    Interested in hearing your thoughts now that we've all played both. Here's my take: The weird golfer models and faces, the truly awful cameras, the unbalanced game play, and the overall playing-in-mud chunkiness of EA's game sure makes me appreciate the silky-smooth, finished feel of 2K23. EA's game though wins in the season mode, challenge mode, and overall presentation department, and 2K/HB really needs to step up their game in that regard. Cheers.

      @@Kilbride10 Thanks for the reply. I'm a PC gamer and I sincerely appreciate the fact we now have two games to choose from, it's been years! The thing is I go back to the sim days of Links and Microsoft Golf. I play 2K23 with all the aiming and targeting assists off. I even reset my clubs to normal swing before setting up my next shot, so as to nullify the auto-caddie feature. And I can do all that in 2K23. But in EA's game, there's no way to shut any of that off. There is so much hand-holding, it feels like a target practice game with the auto-distance club selection, and the targeting arrows and landing spots showing me where my shot will end up. Also -- and this is really important to me because I don't have internet all the time -- EA's game will not start up AT ALL without an internet connection. Both companies need badly to implement competitive online tournaments/rounds with the option of scoring based on handicap (or net scoring). Seem to be fairly cut and dry now that we have all the details. Gameplay and mechanics and graphics will go to ea, 2k win's on variety also due to the fact it has a course editor the societal aspect (online) for 2k i would assume would be much stronger as well as the fact they also added crossplay. Last to add to that list although its probably a little gimmicky it does feed back into the societal online aspect and that would be Top Golf. Presentation and sound im sure will go to ea for the biggest reason owning the course licensing to the majors, course presentation will have that tv broadcast aspect to it being able to have all that on screen branding and what not.
    The biggest weakness i see for ea is pretty clear, no course designer i think really hurts the game's longevity. Won't deny coming out of the gate with 30 courses and a few more a long the way is strong (this will be an even bigger blow if they charge for those courses outside launch again considering the competition). For 2k it would be the game engine, unity has got to go, unreal or something else please. Now the game doesn't look horrid by any means however put it up side ea pga tour and to me it looks like we have a current gen and last gen game graphically. I held off on 2k will get ea pga tour even though that blow to the gut hurts with no course designer. I will be really curious in the future if 2k uses a better engine and if ea were to well not be ea and give us a course designer that would be spicy.

      Great recap. Yeah 2k's next step is for sure a bump up on engine and graphics which is a large deterrent for the consumer. Additionally the course licensing is something they will always battle with even if there are "secret Augusta" versions thanks to their designer mode.

    • @thedutchrutter16
      @thedutchrutter16 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kilbride10 Yeah deeper pockets will always prevail with licensing. For me though honestly i would forgo any contract of licensing and the pageantry it provides onscreen and it's presentation. As long as the course its modeled accurately and knowing through a course creator the possibilities would be endless to a degree, give me the ladder rather then the former. Course creation with good course makers in the community for me will always trump any type of extra shine licensing can give through presentation. I’ve enjoyed 2K but it’s got issues:
    Avatar builder is really bad. The avatars from my PS3 games looked better. How did the graphics get so much jankier when we have so much better hardware?? Easy, 2K doesn’t care.
    The replay camera never looks at the actual thing I want to see. I don’t know why this is, but it seems like an easy fix if they actually cared to.
    The name brand club sets never include a 3i, or an option to acquire one.
    The name brand club models seem old. Since this is software it seems like an easy enough thing to license and change (if 2K wanted to).
    The last EA game (McIlroy) featured horrible avatar making software, then they abandoned the players.
    It was so bad for so long I bought 2K. Hopefully we aren’t up for a repeat.

    I have both and lets be real, EA on PC runs like garbage. I have a beast rig and have it loaded on an M.2 and will still get random lag spikes during swings. The major courses are great to play, but accompanied with the game mechanics that seem very not-EA, it's hard to get into it. I have countless hours on every golf game since '98 and it's very obvious to me that the Frostbite is a completely new thing that just doesn't feel right yet. The gear, courses, vibe, swing animations and graphics of EA are superior, but I don't think either of them have achieved a playability that should be gushed over just yet. As a competitive golfer, a lot of shit sticks out to me in 2K that just seems like they didn't even consider consulting an actual golfer about, and it's triggering. You get less of that with EA but it's not as satisfying...it's a tough spot. HBS has done little to nothing to update their game mechanics since TGC19 and it shows and now working with 2K, we can expect absolutely no polish with any titles in the future. 2K simply doesn't work that way, they make it work and then they rebrand until the end of time. Very little was needed to show some mini golf love for course creation and they didn't even try, regardless of how many people of their small vocal community begged for it. If you can get either game for $20, go for it, but I'd recommend 2k first because people enjoy it more and the community is a lot more involved.

    • @Kilbride10

    I swear EA better not screw this up with micro-transactions. I can really see them doing that and it’s going to make me mad if they do. I’ve been waiting since Tiger Woods PGA Tour ‘14 for another great golf game. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was a huge letdown and downgrade for the series.
    The latest game I have is The Golf Club 2019 because I got it through Games With Gold on Xbox. I didn’t bother with the 2K games because they just come off as reskinned lazy cash grabs to me, especially when PGA Tour ‘14 does a pretty good job rivaling them in the visuals department.
