loved this from the moment i saw and heard it in the first place as part of the german tv show "illusionen - eine revue in trümmern" by renowned director horst königstein (r.i.p.). a "cheesy" show? maybe it is in parts (depending on what is meant by "cheesy"). but for my money this friedrich hollaender composition (made famous by marlene dietrich) in the remarkable combination with p.g.'s voice is spellbinding and never fails to send shivers down my spine. in opposition to some other comments i do think it actually is a spectacular rendition of the song. if you don't like it - too bad.

I really adore and love Peter Gabriel since the early 80's. He is my all time favourite musician... but most of his covers give me the creeps... Do your own stuff, sir! ;)

In 47 yrs. as a Genesis and Peter fan, I never knew about this. Interesting, but he could probably have used a little vibrato on those high notes!
