HORRIBLE BRAND NEW KONE Ecodisc Traction Elevators at the AC Hotel, Asheville, NC

These are Some HORRIBLE Elevators, and the sad thing is, we lost a 1966 Otis Black Button for these pieces of crap!!!!!! Back in 2010, there was a parking garage here which NW Indiana Elevators filmed at that had a 1966 Otis Black Button that would have been TRULY AMAZING, but SADLY, in 2015, the garage got demolished, and now stands this hotel that opened in August of 2017, and it's elevators are ALREADY running like crap!!!! This place was only 4-5 weeks old when this was taken BUT the LEFT Elevator is already breaking down, glitching, and acting up!!!! SO PATHETIC! Typical KONE Quality!!! Also, not only these are ALREADY Breaking Down and have LOTS of complaints on TripAdvisor already, but what's really sad is the KONE Technician I talked to here ADMITTED to me he has seen Many Ecodisc systems glitch and break down, AND it took him FOREVER to come here and fix these as he had gotten 10-15 phone calls from other building owners with Ecodiscs that he had to fix!!!!! And what's also horrible is there is NO Separate Parking Elevator, NO Service Elevator, just these 2 UNRELIABLE, CRAPPY KONE Ecodiscs that are only gonna last 5 YEARS till they will need to modernize/replace these, and in addition they need to add a service elevator here. 2 UNRELIABLE ELEVATORS and 10 FLOORS Including Guestrooms, lobby, parking and a PUBLIC Restaurant Means STOPS GALORE!!!! This place SERIOUSLY needs more elevators!!! And plus, the 2 Elevators they have are KONE!!! And the KONE tech told me the left one was GLITCHING like the Melia in Orlando, the buttons on the COP for the Parking Floors ONLY, AND not the guestroom floors worked, AND it is already having Mechanical problems!!!! While the KONE tech did fix it and I got to show it to you in this video, it STILL needs help!!!! DESPITE being 4-5 weeks Old, one of the Indicators is ALREADY BURNT OUT AND THE IN CAR LANTERN DOESN'T INDICATE IF IT'S GOING UP OR DOWN!!! It just displays a DIAMOND shape!!!!! SO MESSED UP AND PATHETIC!!!! To the AC Hotel, ADD MORE ELEVATORS, AND FIX THIS! AND KONE, you NEED TO SERIOUSLY FIX YOUR QUALITY AND RELIABILITY ISSUES!!!!! I would take an Otis Gen2 or a Schindler 3300 or 5500 over one of these pieces of JUNK, they will probably only last 5 YEARS at MOST!!!!! With that all being said, here's more reasoning to Why I dislike American Ecodiscs!!!!
P.S. This is also the hotel I stayed at in Asheville, and our stay wasn't the greatest, but not the worst as you will see when I upload my tour. Also as of November 2017, these have broken down YET AGAIN according to tripadvisor!!! It was SO DUMB or them to Install only 2 ELEVATORS and no SERVICE ELEVATORS, let alone 2 KONEs....

First, I want to admit that I know I didn't act the most mature in this video and for that I do apologize. This is an older video that is now 3 years old, I do not make videos like this anymore.
But For those of you leaving nasty comments attacking me for what I am saying about these elevators, FIRST OF ALL, I have every right to hate and dislike KONE and I even made a video explaining why I hate them, they are incredibly cheap and crappy IMHO.
Also, if you're going to say this elevator is great and that I'm just a hater, you don't know what you're talking about. I STAYED in this hotel and I waited over 10 MINUTES for an elevator a couple of times, the left elevator kept breaking down, the KONE tech told me it kept glitching and malfunctioning and he ADMITTED KONE controllers were glitchy and crapoy when he works for KONE, and even the staff were complaining and said the elevators were horrible, and not even a year after this was taken and when these were installed, THESE WERE MODERNIZED!!! So if you're going to attack me for what I have to say about these and say these elevators are great, you don't know what you're talking about, you've never ridden these before, and just because something runs smoothly on video doesn't mean it doesn't have issues that make it an utter piece of crap. So be respectful, or back off!!!

This seems like a Friday night job. The Kone engineers probably wanted to go home and rushed this project. I know in other countries Kone would never do that.
Here in Europe the Kone Ecodiscs are the most reliable elevators and Otis elevators are always broken. In America it's kinda switched 😂.

The kone elevators coming from finland are awesome, the ones that are made elsewhere not so much. Funny thing is that otis elevators in europe are shit. Also kone elevators easily look the best.

I recently got a similar reply from a KONE tech when they were doing a mod at a mall they said “I’m glad we convinced them not to get an ecodisc mod” and that they always feel bad about how often they break. If they just made the controllers better the ecodisc would be great like the European ones. If the techs don’t want to install then then there’s a problem.

That is what I meant. Sorry if you misunderstood. The motor is good quality for a modern elevator. The controller could use some work though. KONE is a fine company and the tech was pretty nice.

This is so sad. A similar mod happened to a beautiful vintage building in South Bend, “The LaSalle Building” which was converted to apartments in 2014. It seems like they used to have vintage Haughtons, but I couldn’t tell. Anyway they were replaced with Kone elevators too... unfortunately...

@The Elevator Fan Asian EcoDiscs are sooo much better. In one small shop they installed EcoDisc but did never broke down! It's five years old and still running.

KONE is the worst company on earth! Aesthetics aside, the quality of their products and customer service are appalling and pitiful!
I live in a building only 3 years old in Canada and we still are experiencing lots of issues and break downs since the beginning where people have been trapped inside. KONE can't seem to come in a timely manner, even in an emergency, and parts seem to take forever to come in and their service technicians are slow lazy idiots who don't seem properly trained. Our elevator would be down for a week whenever something goes wrong with them.
I'm hoping the elevators in all of the KONE office buildings are just as bad as the ones they install in other buildings. They should go through the same crap we all have to go through with these shitty KONE elevators. The CEOs and upper management deserve to be trapped in a hot stuffy KONE elevator for hours every week!
Kone is shit in USA, Kone is amazing in Europe. Generic lifts in the UK is Kone in USA.

These are terrible and they don’t work how an elevator should. The indicator and lantern should work when it’s brand new and it shouldn’t mess up when it’s brand new. They shouldn’t be this glitchy either. Really rubbish. Only good thing about them is the fixtures which I quite like despite the cheapness of KSS

Kone lifts are not actually cheaply made, but I heard that they never work properly in the US. I've rode the Europian Ecodiscs and they run really nicely, but I always heard that Kone ecodiscs in the US never work nicely.

I like stainless steel elevator cabs. Generally, I think elevators with stainless steel cabs are pretty nice, regardless if you think they’re not.
I stayed at my first AC a couple weeks ago, it had Gen2s which were actually pretty good. They were hospital size and had much cooler cabs than these. I am very disappointed in KONE, because this is just embarrassing for them.
I worked for Kone and thieir products are subpar. The 1960's Otis would of probably out lasted this new crap.

I hate kone ecodisc so much that we need to talk so right in to it the lanturn is shaped like a Diamond it's so glichy bumpy and slow and it's running bad I've got stuck with sahki and it broke after only 5 weeks or 4 weeks it used to be a to be a old garage with a amazing 1960s otis and it's just so bad and why is one of the floor indicator broken and I would even rather ride a 1920s otis over this piece of crap and I hate stainless steel cabs

The base-model 1 meter per second EcoDiscs at my school run much better than these considering they are like over 10 years older than these. At least KONE in the UK are great :D

Have you considered the possibility that the indicator might not be "already broken", but not have been correctly installed yet? Elevators can take months to years before they're fully installed, adjusted and configured to run at their finest.
Well, I have already seen crappy Tyssen kurp elevators that are only around 1 year old, the "down" call button got replaced by "2" call button (LOL).
Next time my parents, brother, and I come down to North Carolina to visit family, I’ve got to check this out if my parents would allow me. If the 66’ Otis elevators lasted about 45 years, then I guarantee these Kone elevators WILL last 45 seconds (is that too short?).
The issue is that Kone American installers for some reason can not install lifts properly. Here in the UK and Europe Kone is one of the most reliable and the most efficient type of lift.
THANKFULLY the new AC Hotel here in PGH (opening tomorrow, filmed today) has Gen2s, & isn't this tall, so obviously quality's not this bad, same for efficiency. They're also scenic, & don't have garage style cabs!

Here in the UK, KONE do pretty nice lifts honestly. The Ecodiscs in my local library are really nice, they run well, and they only broke down a few times since they were installed when the library was built in 2017. The library was built to replace the old library (which was torn down and rebuilt as a hotel (that also has really nice Ecodiscs)). KONE also do more heavy duty lifts for car parks.
I guess as long as buildings don't install generic crap or rush better lifts, they should last at least ten years.

Kone and Otis are better in Europe than it is here is the United States. For Example the Otis gen 2 is better in Europe because it looks better like the Otis 2000, well that’s the way I like it. And the KONE ecodisc it the Clayton in Dublin is by far better than this piece of shit in America. Also I like the chimes of the Otis gen 2 in Europe.
It’s because that in the US and Canada, these elevators, or lifts for short, are not very good at doing elevators. 2 elevators in a hotel only to serve the staff and guests. Needs to gets an Otis service elevator, like a Series 7 or 4. Needs to be replaced by a Series 7 or 4 soon for the guests and 4 passenger elevators would do. 2 service elevators would be good, and an Otis Series 1 parking garage elevator would’ve been good. These elevators are very bad and need to be replaced soon with Otis Series 7 or 4 and the other stuff I said in this comment. Reply to this comment of what you think or the Kone elevators, and do they need to be modernized, or kept the same?

I am pretty upset about this replacement! I'd expect a lot better from kone. The Ecodiscs at my dad's friends house which are as slow as snails run far better then this piece of crap. And notice how long it takes for decelerate ! This is nearly as horrible as a typical NYC 50 story Generic lift
However, I do agree with dieselducy kinda as there is an example of when I have been extremely immature ranting about Otis products back in 2015-2016 by saying that the "Gen2 was crap" even though I never had any evidence to prove it *false* until last year...

I think that was a few years ago. From what I can tell now EcoSpace is trying to compete w/ 3100 & only goes up to 4 floors.

At the Homewood suites in Orlando fl lake Buena Vista they have 3 crappy ecodisc and one of them is a death trap they're worth filming because there so crappy idk if there still death traps probably so but you should check them out
I know i have said this many times but i do totally respect your opinon on kone. To be honest i dont Like these elevators either. Back in October 2017 i was on a Mediterranean cruise and they have kone elevators that are the complete opposite of these.

even though this thread is from two weeks ago, I just wanted to say how cheap the chime sounds lol. I heard it at first and thought it sounded decent but i just heard it a second ago and thought it sounded so cheap and crappy lol :)

I’ve seen some new hotels where the cabs are as boring as can be. I don’t even like Kone elevators. Otis does a better job even these days they still make good quality elevators.

Kone at times is very nice but on the other hand, my sister HATES the Kone Ecodiscs in the building she works in in Indianapolis. She has told me that they break down way too frequently and they have issues with getting on them.

My Kone EcoDisc in my building does not break down at all, very reliable, it's a 1st Generation EcoDisc with Sigma fixtures which is imported from Europe.
Just 2 elevators for a tall building like this is not enough. At least 3 elevators would be good enough.

I HATE KONE ELEVATORS if I see that I'm gonna be sick
I really hope you see this, kone is refusing to refill whiskey blue and they were there to fix it for the second time in 2 weeks. They were there 3 days ago and when I was back there to see it actually working it was low on oil... The engineer dosen't even know why it shakes at the top floor. Going to to text him about this tomorrow.
And why? 4 inch gap between top of oil tank where you refill it and the ceiling. Well that's why it was submersible
I don't know what it is with KONE and America, but something's not right. Yup, that internal lantern has broken, maybe the floor indicator that doesn't work is just switched off? I bet that the maintenance on them will be poor because the building owner well decide not to maintain them properly. These could be nice if they were maintained better.
I like the buttons though. :)
I don't blame maintenance. These were literally just Installed when this was taken!!!
Maybe the engineers who installed these were new to the trade and inexperienced in installing elevators
I rode like 5 kones a few days ago only one of them where interesting as it was a rare hydro KONE
Nick Derik the Iowa 80 has a hydro Kone with these fixtures. They are very rare

I sort of like KONE elevators but this one is not a good elevator.
0:37 I'm actually thinking the opposite of vomit and also hope that there's a metal cabinet which has the same lock as the kone fastlock keyholes so then I can open the cabinet up to hopefully reveal an LCE logic for me to play with.
But it's still sad to see engineers installing these badly for NA, The ones in Europe and Asia are real nice.
And the multiplex seemed to be configured differently to the ones in Europe, probably explains why the electronics aren't reliable.

Sadly, Otis doesn't maintain these, so I doubt that will happen, at least for a while.
And Series 7 doesn't exist btw. The New Otis fixtures are called Newer Series 2 if surface mount, and Newer Series 4 if flush mount. And if it's a mod, Series M2

That's the third new Marriott hotel that I am aware of that has KONE elevators. The Residents Inn in Watertown Massachusetts, opened in late 2016, and a Residents Inn in Braintree, Massachusetts, which opened around the same time as this AC Hotel, both have KONEs. It's interesting, the Braintree Residents inn I think has the same cab design. I find it interesting that these three new Marriott properties have very similar elevators.

I hate Kone elevators. The only Kone elevator I like is Kone Polaris.
I filmed the elevators at the AC in Portland. They also had kone, but they weren’t too bad.

They use it for freight too. That is the problem. You should never use Kone's for freight.

That’s messed up AF. I live in England and in this shopping centre near my dad’s house has an EcoDisc what is about 13 years old and hasn’t broken down once as long as I’ve known, if they had 4 lifts (or maybe even 6) and made them Polaris they would work much better but that looks like hell on earth in a lift...

Kone has their act together on high rise tho, I rode a brand new 1200FPM one and it didn’t creak at all
Well the one that already broken down in the hotel after it being open for 5 weeks sounds like the Hilton hotel in Anchorage where Schindler modded the touch elevators and the first day one of them turned on it broke just like that
You know that Kone that AB Trains & Elevators (Tyson) filmed that had the indicator glitch? Almost 2 years later, IT STILL DOES IT!

Actually Floridian elevator I live in a 27 floors apartment with two kone ecodisc 4 gen installed in 2013 and they have never broken down
