Jonathan Kent. It’s a 1991. The suspension on those things was awful. I bought one new. Worst car I ever had. As soon as the revision came out I swapped it. Handling was way better (almost as good as my mk1) . It’s going to take some serious geometry revisions to sort out.

I love how older Honda’s and Toyota’s have the mirror mounted to the roof instead of the glass. It seems like a much superior design than relying on adhesive to hold up the mirror.

    • @gaznicol5020

I agree with the many others who have commented ... bushings and suspension first ... there is also something that comes to mind about dropping the fuel tank and that is replacing the fuel pump for the sake of reliability and performance ... those two things will give you enough time to work it all out before commiting to the boost controller/guage configuration ... I am sure you will work it all out ...

The thing haes 2 sensors. One aiming to the front measures ambient lighting and the one in the middle of the mirror surface measures the beams lighting the car from behind. The darkening is triggered if there is a certain difference between lighting from front and rear only. And for the rest of situations it does have a push switch :)

My comments today do not specifically relate to this video, but it is about the channel.
Now that SEMA is over and so many youTubers either went Supra-crazy or did wild builds (Tavarish and b is for build, especially), and those are fun, but I must say that I appreciate your channel at least as much if not more for the unique perspective you have. I feel that you do your builds almost in a way like the rotisserie restorers do, but on a budget. I have zero mechanical ability (a big win for me is building a piece of IKEA furniture) and my cars tend to be newer, appropriately, but I really love the way that you do such comprehensive work, combining respect for the work of the original manufacturer while making tasteful mods. Mr. Dos looks so gorgeous now due to the attention to detail you have along with a fabulous choice in wheels.

Is this what they call an "LS Swap?"

  • @CHubbs376
    @CHubbs376 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I love these sorts of mods. Did a mirror swap in my old truck to get autodimming, Homelink, compass and a temp gauge. It was a sign from the car gods to do the swap when the original mirror fell off the windshield when I was driving. You probably already know this, but I suspect one of the wires you didn't use would shut off the autodimming when you put the car in reverse. Not really a big deal, especially if it was hard to get to that wire, only time I notice it working is when I back out of the garage on a sunny day.

Bushes , here in the UK a lower power car with good grip beats something that only does straight line. It's a good basis to then add boost or build an engine. MR2 is looking great!
Safety and needful stuff (suspension bushings) before fun. Plus you will enjoy driving it with tight handling.
    Gauge(/display) locate ideas:
    1) extract the rectangular display and shift LEDs from the round gauge housing and mount them as if OEM like at the bottom center of your gauge cluster. Hot glue or epoxy them in, and maybe get a junker gauge cluster panel to practice on.
    2) current cig lighter area, since you were wanting to redo it and USB power is easy to relocate. Could also make a new plastic panel and shrink down from the 2-1/4 housing if it made the fit tidy. I've got an analog turbo boost gauge for the 1HZ roughly in that location next to the ignition switch of the land cruiser (similar plastics era Toyota) and like it. If there isn't dimming control for the gauge, that white OLED can get bright at night, so a lower mount works nice.

I have a Ph.D. and I have no idea what you’re talking about but it’s fascinating and addicting to listen to what you’re doing.

Kevin Jones I’m a few credit hours shy of a Masters and I have no clue what I’m saying either lol

Engine: Go for it if it's the end goal. Um fix the suspension then pull the tanks and add your controller stuff. I think most will agree that having the car in a driving condition before you get over in boost stuff, unless you need that wideband to make sure you have correct fueling for idle/normal driving. Reminds me my ls400 is missing little mirror bottom cover, and I can't find one.

I think suspension should be first. You gotta be able to drive it safely before you can drive it fast! After that's sorted out maybe get the gas tank cleaned out and do the heater core. I think you should get the panel that mounts to the left on the dash for the booster control/gauge. I think that would look clean and a good spot for seeing the gauge. I simply love how happy you get when things work out!

Yes, yes, YES! An engine build series of videos along with the swap would be awesome! Go for it! I’ll be here waiting to click on the upload notification. 😃
Given the options, I think your beat bet would be the new cluster bezel trim with the gauge pod molded into it. The other options would look a bit janky AND Arizona summers....A/C a must. A sloppy, sweaty Sarah wouldn’t be too appealing. Well...😏

I would also say do the suspension first. Then once it's ready to go, then work on the Fuel Tank, getting it dropped and cleaned out. Then you can work on the boost Controller and other accessories.

Impressive Sarah! Nice job. My vote would be to do the suspension first, so you can drive it a little; then the boost. I’m not doing the work, so do what you’re itching to do.

Suspension. ETCG always said the most important part of a car is the tires, and the suspension helps to keep the tires on the road.

Bushings first I would say and a panel with a bezel sounds like it would look more together provided you can actually see the gauge easily when fitted. I think an engine build would be great also especially seeing the care and attention to details you put into your vids.

Awesome work with the rear view retrofit! I love it when people care about things like that and show attention to detail in the execution.

I like the idea of building an engine for it and the two pod for steering wheel. And maybe add temp gauge or a digital gauge that can scroll threw temp and pressure

As the parts are already there, go for the bushings!! All the other work is going to be done sooner rather than later anyway. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Needs before wants. Suspension first, then boost controller. Great stuff Sarah.

If the module is too big to replace the ashtray then I'd go with dash replacement unit that has locations for it. I'd go with the suspension first unless you would have remove parts of the suspension in order to work on the other 2. All in all very clever video on how to upgrade parts and the process of modifying it with a step by step instructions. Keep up the great work.

As someone with gauges on the pillar, I recommend it. It is a good viewing angle.

I’d yeet the MR2 back into storage and finish Mr. Tot. I recently finished my 2002 200k mile 180hp 8N TT Quattro’s timing belt service with a Gates racing belt, ECS racing pulleys, new suspension, and Neuspeed cold air intake, and a slew of other links, bushings, control arms, etc. I’m also making a custom headliner and I have a Duraflex Regulator bumper waiting for fitment. I held off on the cam and crank seal replacement because I wanted to see how you did it because it looks like a pain in the azz. Thanks for the great content and for also giving me a reason not send my bubble butt TT to the scrap yard.

I vote bushes. The car drives & runs well as is. Replace & upgrade the suspension etc then start tinkering with boost and power mods. Oh, And that Gen 4 idea is dreams 😍

I went thought that on my project. A simple burnt out map light bulb ended up having to replace both pigtails, an ebay search and some time later, it worked again after 10 years of being dead.

Yeah it's just a rear view mirror, but the steps you took to maintain function and all the factory features is a pretty badass accomplishment.

Been with you here since you had like 20k, rarely comment but decided to on this one, so a few things; 1) Always good to protect against chaffing (pun intended), 2) always dream big, 3) nails look nice, & 4) safety 1st so fix sloppy suspension before the tank & boost mod. Well done, as always. :)
