    I don't care what anyone says, playing FF10 for the first time when I was a kid is what got me into the franchise and still to this day is my favorite FF. Ive played it to 100% completion with 900+ hours on my original file. Now that I have the PAL version that has Seance and the Dark Aeons etc., after I finish FF7 Remake, I'm going back to Zanarkand to finish it. The game had a very cool passive point/ability system and overall a REALLY good game during it's time.

To see your beloved characters fully animated in the best graphics possible for the time and don't even get me started about when they actually added voices to it. FFX was the first game I had ever played that was fully voice acted and it blew my mind I didn't even have a PS2 yet and playing at my friends was amazing

    I love that laugh scene. Tidus is a jock that lost his entire world and is a fish out of water. He learns that his guardian is here and might know a way back but he can't go back and the only way forward is to keep going into the unknown. He's frustrated and sad. Then comes Yuna, these 2 have never really talked. Small talk sure but not any heart to hearts. She gives him her method to fake being happy so he can keep going. He makes fun of that method, she joins him, and they both end up laughing and their connection became stronger

    I find the belief in breathing devices or mutations of blitzball players pretty funny, since in the game itself, you can talk to the Besaid Aurochs when you first enter Besaid, and they literally talk about how they are the worst team because many of them can't hold their breath long enough. One of them even talks about how impressed he is that Wakka can hold his breath for the entire game, without taking a break. It's 100% clear that its about holding breath

  • @Zanji1234

    Fun Fact: the German translation of FFX is based on the japanese script and NOT the voice over. Therefore several times in the game the characters say stuff differently than it is written in the script below. ESPECIALLY in the final when Yuna said "i love you" but the script is "thank you"

    • @tamptasian857
      @tamptasian857 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Are you sure about the fact about the translation changes? In the JP voice over for the final scene Yuna says,
      「ありがとう」which translates to, "Thank you".
      The consensus among fans is that it was intentionally written that way in Japanese because of cultural habits in communicating gratitude and romantic feelings. Such that, it's more common to express romantic feelings in an indirect way, such as with thanks over a direct and forward statement.
      I do recall that many dubs, most notably the English dub, they chose to change it to,
      "I love you" instead.
      This change for dubs I do appreciate because it's a change that more accurately depicts the meaning of the script for a different language and culture. Where Yuna saying thanks in German or English, would not properly communicate the intended emotional message of the orignal script/voice over.

      That's not the feeling I got. A decent chunk of the game already happened before Tidus even got to Spira. So jecht's redemption already happened but though the viewpoint of Tidus, nothing changed. It's only through collecting the spheres and progression through the storyline that we even see a glimpse of the heros journey that jecht went through. If I'm being particularly honest, Tidus' mom is someone I would like to know more about. As it stands, after Jecht disappeared. She fell into a depression and stopped taking care of Tidus. The fact she was in the far planes denotes she passed away but i dont recall the game going much into detail as to how or when that happened. Though that's more of a side thing for me.

    Still my favorite Final Fantasy of all time. It has is flaws sure, but I played through every one from 7 on. We only really had one TV we could use with our PS2 and it's the first time I remember my parents setting up the VCR to record shows for later so they could watch me play a video game. During routine battles or progression between major events, my step mom would do crosswords and my dad would go get his telescope set up to track whatever might look cool that night. My whole family was glued to the TV when I took on the final boss in the main story, and not a dry eye in the house at the end.
    The music is legendary, the cutscenes were mind-blowing and despite being a fairly early PS2 title it looked absolutely incredible. Hell even the PS2 version holds up well when emulated today, so long as you turn up the internal render resolution and have a GPU capable of doing good texture upscaling, all of which should be possible with anything faster than a potato. Hell, even my girlfriend years later in college watched me replay through the whole thing when I finally built a computer that could bump it up to 1080p+.

      It's pretty reasonable why something never happened. Their story is told completely in the game already. We know what their character arcs are. A prequel wouldn't actually provide any new content. We already know how they lived, died and felt about it through the spheres they left behind and their appearance in the game. A prequel focusing on them would either have to invent some kind of new threat for them to contend with other than Sin to fill time or just be a complete rehash of everything we already know happened with no actual intrigue. And they all just die at the end too; it's going to be hard to make that narratively satisfying, given their sacrifices aren't heroic or meaningful, which was the entire point. It sounds like a good idea because the game makes you like those three characters, but from an actual plot construction stand point it would be very hard to deliver something that isn't just fanservice. It would probably be better to have a prequel set centuries earlier focusing on one of the other high summoners, as, even if they have an equally pointless sacrifice, at least you have more room to construct an actual original story.

      @Jotari ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@user-lg5xu6id5j They actually had a lot more room to develop a story for Crisis Core than an Auron/Jecht/Braska story. We knew some of the stuff leading up to Zach's death, but he was otherwise a blank slate. He died at the end, but they could still do anything they wanted with him prior to that point. Hence we got a plot with Angeal and Genesis and the like. In other words, Zack didn't have an arc in Final Fantasy VII, he was just the guy that helped and protected Cloud. How he felt about it, where he started off and how he changed over time was never explicit, this is markedly different to the Final Fantasy X backstory characters where we know exactly these details.

    Gotta be honest, I'm a sucker for a good cutscene. That's the stuff that keeps me going through the boring bits. Legitimately the only reason I stuck with Kingdom Hearts is because I wanted to know what the hell was going on with that first cutscene (The same one that some find contrived). Honestly KH1 had one of the best JRPG hooks I've ever seen. The whole game remained mysterious and foreboding, yet lighthearted and heartwarming, all the way up to and beyond the end of the game. All the obvious loose ends and cliffhanger endings are probably a big reason why the games have such a dedicated following... Even if we're quickly outgrowing the emotional maturity of the cast. A bunch of reckless kids/teens that never even finished school running around with world changing power at their fingertips, trying to stop some nihilistic old dudes from breaking their reality more than it already is. Classic JRPG premise. Also, don't you ever tell me that Kingdom Hearts isn't a post apocalypse.

    If Square ever makes that prequel, I'd much rather have one set in Yunalescas time that one focused on Braska, Auron, and Jecht. So much of Yunalesca, Zaon, and Yu Yevons story is in mystery, to the point where it feels completely brushed over. You only even find out about Yu Yevon being Yunalescas father from an entirely missable Maechen monologue in a location you're unlikely to revisit in the main game! (Surprised that wasn't in the iceberg tbh lol) It wouldn't need to answer every question, as I think it's better to maybe leave those figures themselves shrouded in mystery, but a story set in that time that fleshes out the story of the origins of Sin and summonings and gave us enough insight into the zeitgeist of pre-Sin Zanarkand to come up with our own ideas on how Sin, the Fayth, etc came about would be really interesting.

    At 8:40 Tidus being pronounced that way is due to that 'i' being pronounced as we in English say the letter E. Tidus being from Zanarkand is obviously a foreigner and his name is clearly based on the Tides. The way its pronounced in the games is the Japanese reading of 'Tidus', I think either interpretation is correct as when borrowing a non-native languages pronunciation issues can occur.
    Counter Examples, Anime and Manga as pronounced in English are not phonetically correct to the Japanese words (the 'i' in Anime has the same E pronunciation as in Tidus), both pronunciations are valid interpretations for their host language, but technically most English speakers pronounce Anime and Manga incorrectly, and I'd argue that the developers of FFX pronounce Tidus incorrectly in their game, but it is their game, so they get to choose.
