    As for stretching tubes, Sheldon Brown approves, and his word is valued higher than anyone's when it comes to bicycle repairs. Probably wouldn't stretch a tube 7 inches though, maybe an inch or two at most.

    I have a 29" tube in my 36er ruined a tube on vacation. 29" was The biggest the rental bike shop had.
    He said it will never work!!!!!
    I left the valve in it, inflated it until the I.D. (inside diameter) was slightly larger than the O.D. of the wheel, lined up the valve and deflated the tube!!!!
    Putting the tire on was a bit of work but it's still in there.
    I know your tour is over, just a bit of information!!😁😎
    REALLY ENJOY THE VIDEOS!!!!

      @krollpeter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yep, I've always done that when I was a boy. I never had money for pre-fabricated patches.
      Cut a piece that fits, give it the sand paper treatment on both the patch and the tire, cover both contact surfaces with rubber cement, wait until it starts to dry, pressssssss hard together. Lasts the same as the neat factory patch.

    a product called Green Slime will eliminate punctures up to a quarter inch.It works for tube and tubeless tires.its a glycol base-hence wont freeze and it has synthetic fibers and tiny toothy granules of plastic ...the toothy granules get stuck in the puncture,the fibers stick the the granules but they also protrude through the puncture where the glycol evaporates-leaving a formed plug.i used it many times-at least 50 times on yard equipment and friends bicycles,wheel barrows,4 wheelers etc.its not for cars and trucks- not to be confused with temporary aerosols like fix-a-flat.Green Slime is good for the life of the tire.

  • @izzzzzz6
    @izzzzzz6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    For anyone thats interested to know how to fix a puncture well, you need to sand like crazy around the hole, where the patch is going, this requires some decent sand paper and go till the area is completely smooth and darkened, then apply a decent amount of rubber cement and wait around a minute depending on the temperature. Then press the patch down firmly and even rub or roll a hard object over the top for a while. It also helps to dust off the remaining surplus glue around the patch so that it does not stick to the inner wall of the tyre.

  • @krystofkarban8003
    @krystofkarban8003 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best way to get as little punctures as possible is to ride in tiretracks if possible, most of the nasty stuff (nails, grit, shards) gets swept away by other cars' tires. I'm young amateur road cyclist, I've managed to put somewhere around 5k kilometres trough my wheels and haven't got a single puncture so far :)
    Btw I love what you're doing, keep it up

    You can cut up the smaller innertube to make patches. You just apply the glue to the patch and the tube in the same way.

    Ahhhh I actually thought he was going to cut up the smaller tube to make more patches 😅

      Stretching the inner tube is actually a much better way to go. I've done that 29er with a 26" tube a couple times before.

    Your positivity is amazing Ed. Even when there is problems, you always keep a happy face (at least on camera xD) and i admire you for that. I ride a unicycle myself, but i get tired after just 10 kilometers xD Maybe it is because i only ride a 20 inch, or maybe i am just out of shape ;)
    Keep up the good work :D

    I once patched a innertube with a lighter and hotglue it got me back home. Also when patching a puncture you always have to check the inside of your tire if there is anything left in there. Otherwise your gonna puncture your patched tube again

    Have you ever tried sealants like Slime or Stan's? They self-seal. I believe they use latex technology. They are great for mountain biking. Thorns are the most common cause of punctures, but the sealants never let you know if you had a puncture!

    Can write what I know on a postage stamp.. but would suggest a hybrid inner tube... less punctures for sure. Never had one.. going to and from the shop..

    I have found that having the tube in a stretched state when applying the patch works best as you are simulating working conditions.
