I believe they said she was 79. That is very old for something like this. Even just being put under for routine surgery would be very risky at her age. Source: my grandfather just recently passed away after being put under for a surgery. He never woke up from the surgery, the left him in a coma for 3 weeks until the decision was fully made.

Same concept if the ball fouled over the saftey net its going to land somehwere and chances are its going to hit someone. Its weather or not the person is paying attention enough to be able to move out of the way or catch it. The nets are so high I guarantee she had more then 5 seconds to react to the ball.

When you sit in seats (section behind home plate and just above the protective netting) that have a Good Probability of a foul ball coming at you. *You SHOULD Be Aware of that Probability at each pitch to a batter. *I personally, was in that same situation and I took my eyes off the ball for minute. *Suddenly, A hard hit foul ball came streaking directly towards me at the precise moment that I wasn't paying attention to the foul ball. *I was Tremendously Lucky as the foul ball Struck/Slammed into the empty seat next to me. *I was so stunned...I froze still for a second or more, Then I noticed and realized that a few fans Suddenly rushing towards me to pickup the foul ball for a souvenir that was now just laying just below the empty seat next to me. *I did at that moment, I Finally...WOKE-UP and picked up that foul ball for my keepsake. *Lesson Learned...Always Be Aware!! *note: That foul ball Struck the top portion of that empty seat next to me. Most Likely, Had that foul ball hit my seat. It would have Struck Me directly in my Upper Chest Area or My Face/Head. *I was Truly Fortunate.

Freak accident or otherwise, big corps need to maintain/uphold human decency above the protection of assets. It went over top the safety net -- that's the key. It came down vertically enough to hit her right in the head. That's direct enough.
