Oh dear Lawd, thank you So So Much for sharing this!! I'm literally in so much pain right now with these! I bend down, sweep, mop, and I get stuck bc it's so painful to stand back upright 🥴! Im 43, and Im feeling like I'm Way too too Young to Feel this Damn Old!
I agree 100% all your techniques and educating us all to treat back pain. Well explained. Praying that our eldest sister will do this so she can stand and walk again. God bless❤❤❤
Thank you. I have a ball of muscles in my lower back, you can see it as a ball on my low back and your video finally gave me release and relief. I can feel the ball of muscles loosening and the ball getting smaller and smaller. You took away my anxiety about this ball of muscles you can see in my lower back but you educated me and gave me the ability to heal myself...for that I am appreciative. You can count me as 1 person you helped today. Keep doing what you're doing. It may sound hokey....but You are making the qorld better in ur own way....👏🏿👏🏿
I have two muscle knots on both sides of my spine in lower back area. These knots are build up because of muscles tighten as i ride a motorcycle on daily basis near about 150 km a day. Till now i didn't know what to do but now on i will try these exercises .. and let you know its results.... Thanks a lot Doctor
I had mps for 15 months from a horrible repetitive strain injury. I’ve done other stretches by my god these stretches hit the spot so well. Thank you man I actually have relieve in my back
Thank u for the video. This is exactly what I'm going through. Knots on my right side. Lower back and upper glute. Omg I've been going through this for weeks and I can feel the knots jump. I'm in so much pain, it's horrible. Thanks for the tips. I do my own home therapy for lower back but I will start doing these news ones.
GREAT AND PRACTICAL VIDEO--These exercises are the ones I remember being recommended the last time I had a severe lower back problem. Why I stopped doing them I don't know, but now that I have the same problem, except this time on my left side, I regret having stopped.I don't understand or agree with the thumbs down on this video, except that there will always be people "like that".
Javier Garcia - thanks so much! I appreciate your kind comment! I am sorry about your back pain and hope that this helps you find relief! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a nice comment - it made my day!
These are the best exercises and tips to get rid of muscle knots in your lower back. I give them to my patients all the time and I know they work! Thanks so much for watching on Tone and Tighten.
The products you use should give you a discount so other's can use your code for their products, don't have to endorse but just what you happen to use, your doing a Good thing for other's, it's why I mentioned it, Thank You👏👍☝
underrated video! seen a buncha these vids and have chronic back pain but this guys detailed explanation has helped me understand and do these exercise correctly way to go
Thanks for your awesome treatment advises. My lower back muscle knot released and pain is gone! I had gotten the knot after hurting myself in gym by wrong movements!
Just wanted to say thank you for sharing this information. I tweaked my back from lifting weights, and the next morning, my back was super painful. I followed these exercises and my back felt better to the point I had mobility and wasn't painful. Again, thank you
I just found your video and am trying these exercises for that knot in my lower left back area. I was given muscle relaxants but the doctor said I might find excercises/physio would also help. So here I am , I would like to try to fix this myself with the help of your videos. I definitely feel the stretch but it's not really painful to do which is good. Thanks for your help and I will let you know how it goes.
68buickwildcat - I am glad that you are here! I hope that these exercises help!! Keep me posted. Good luck with everything and thanks for leaving a comment.
Wow I have had a muscle knot in my lower back from 10 years of hairdressing. I didn't have a tennis ball but I used a childs building block. It hurt like crazy but it feels so much better. Thank you so much!
Hello Doctor. Thank you so much for the very informative video. I also thank you for bringing your lovely wife to demonstrate the exercises. I have all the possible problems with my muscles after a L4_L5 and l5 _S1laminectimy and stabilization. I also have painfully knee so I am not able to do the child pose. Rt leg is more painful.
Hi Basila! Thanks so much for your kind comment. I'm sorry to hear about you back and leg pain. If you have trouble with your knee perhaps you might find these stretches beneficial: th-cam.com/video/U390c5-9fX8/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
Thank you for the helpful information! The VA vacillates between nothing to prescription drugs. In horrible pain, that medication wasn't even working. These will give some relief!! 🙌🏾
Excellent video. Was working in yard, leaned over to start my weed eater and when I stood up experienced a sharp pain in my left sacroiliac joint where a knot formed soon after. Tried ice first, then heat the next day. Painful for several days. Tried your exercises, used a plastic ball to apply pressure to knot, did the exercises with it. Feeling some progress already, knot feels smaller than it was. Very helpful info during this pandemic. Thank you.
Great video, nice balance of theory explanation and simple stretches and exercises. One question, the 2nd stretch (crossing the leg and pulling towards yourself) is this safe for someone with a hip replacement? Other than that, I'm bookmarking this. 👍🏻
Found several of your tone and tighten videos this morning. Love these exercises, along with your explanation as to why they work and why other exercises can be harmful.
Thanks so much for a very informative video. I will definitely give your suggestions a go. It would be great if you could do a video on tips for alleviating tailbone pain (coccydynia).
Thank you for this video, I have 2 knots on my lower back, they keep to giving hard time for me😢, I just found your video, only I tried tennis ball exercise, ok I pied my panties, but I feel much more better! For sure I keep to doing this exercise with my ball 5-6-10 times a day and all of those stretches too! Thank you again!
Barbara - I am so happy to hear that this helped! I know that if you do the stretches on top of the tennis ball exercises, you will only see more relief from that pain. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment! Have a great day!
I've had some patients get rid of them completely and some who do these exercises for months and months just to maintain relief. Everyone responds a little differently, but I'm encouraged that yours already showed signs of improvement!
I have EDS and have knots n my back, hips and ITB. It is miserable. These exercises will help. Ty. I have a tendency to hyperextend because it relieves the pain.
Thank you very much for these videos on muscle knots. I have/had tendonitis in my shoulders, which gave me muscle knots in my upper arms and lats. Do you have any tips/recommendations on how to treat muscle knots in these areas? Thanks in advance.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder, Michael. I don't have videos for those specific areas (great ideas for future vids, though!), but I do have a good one on some exercises to treat rotator cuff pain. Check it out; hope it helps: th-cam.com/video/_QW5VSdbDpc/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the info! I twisted my hip on a kitchen island and got bad muscle spasms for hours that led to knots on the back of the hip bone. How long should it take to get these knots out you think?
Thanks for the wonderful explanation! I just have one question: is it safe to do "bridges" when the muscle is still contractured? I ask this cause when I do bridge I can feel how my back muscles get tight from the effort.
What if the pain is to the left of the sacrum? Is it good to put a ball there on the actual source or a little to the side? I do that cross the leg and pull tiward chest and the left sacrum area hurts abd sometimes the muscle under the left scapular blade. Thank you.
Recent knee injury bout 2 months ago so I can't get in that first position 😩 I have a feeling my knee injury is now affecting my back and hips. I will try the 2nd pose.
I would like to say Thankyou very much for this video because out of no where I got these 2 knots in my back one near my shoulder blade and on my lower left back and I haven’t been sleeping well and it’s caused me to be unable to bend down or get up correctly I did everything up until after the balls I had to use a basketball because I had no other tiny ones but I guess it helped lol Thankyou!
Thank you for this video. The only exercise I hadn't previously tried was the one where you bring your bent leg across the other one. After a few repetitions, it was like the clicking/tendon rubbing just stopped and my femoral pelvic joint was basically back to being a smooth operator. :-)
lotsofthots - you are welcome! I am happy to hear that it helped! That is awesome. I hope that the pain doesn't come back. Thanks so much for sharing! Have a great day!
Great video! Is a muscle knot the same as a long hard “rope” type of muscle? Several inches where it toughen/hardens up and is tender. Find these in forearms, legs, and back.
A knot is an area of increased tension that causes a muscle to feel firmer due to contraction. Sounds like that's what you may be experiencing in the areas you mentioned. The same principles apply - heat, stretch, gentle active motion - all should help.
I’ve had lower back pain for as long as I can remember. This is the most helpful video I’ve seen that addresses all of my pain areas. I tried all the stretches you suggested and they all seem effective (just wish I had one more tennis ball to do both sides at once). I did have one question, while having one tennis ball under me, is it okay to pull or move/rotate my leg out to the side in addition to up and down as your wife demonstrated? Or is that harmful? That seemed to be doing something to the muscle when I did that. It all hurts SOOO GOOD! :) Thanks for your help. I’m anxious to see how this helps in the next few weeks.
Sorry to heat about your back pain, LeeAnn, but I'm excited these things offered you some relief! As far as rotating the leg - absolutely! That's a great way to actually mobilize the muscle while under trigger release pressure. Hope they continue to help you!
One more thing. I’ve been doing this exercise for the last three nights and my back actually hurting more. Is it a “it will get worse before it gets better” kinda thing or is something going on and I should stop?
I recently started having painful lower back pain after I lifted too heavy and messed up my form. I noticed a knot in my right side of the lower back. I was doing your stretches and noticed slowly I was getting better. However, when I told my friend the pain I was having , he said I'm suffering from a bulged disc. The symptoms that I'm having are similar to a bulged disc, but they are similar to a muscle knot as well. Is there a way to clearly differentiate between the two ? Update After continuous struggle, x-ray and several (time wasting) visits to the chiropractor, my insurance okayed an MRI and I was diagnosed with buldged disc. I still have the knot which the message therapist said it'll take several sessions to get rid of.
Hi Doctor I have a lumbar spine problem, I just saw your video. Is it safe to carry a quite heavy baby for as long as I maintain my exercise, the pain will not occur again? Or do I have to avoid lifting heavy things so that the pain will not occur again even though I exercise regularly? Thank u for your reply.
If you're lifting heavy objects regularly your best option is to increase your core strength so you can better tolerate the load. Here are my recommendations: th-cam.com/video/GFus5TyIlCM/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for this informative video. I learn a lot with the anatomy lessons segments. I have L5/S1 degeneration with arthritic changes, is it ok if I do this exercises?
You're so welcome, leonina72. You should be okay with these exercises with the degenerative arthritic changes you have described. The only one that might be aggravating is the cat/camel; if that's the case just don't do it. The other should be good, though! Good luck!
Tone and Tighten So far, we both like understanding how muscles work, so when I rub/massage his back now he falls asleep. Must really be relaxing his muscles. Thanks again. 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi there, I came across your video whilst looking for help with my lower back. I can feel a lump of muscle /knot on my lower right back. It causes me great pain in the night when I move and in the morning.... I guess that's normal? I think this problem started when I tore the meniscus in my left knee a number of years ago as I had to limp and take all my weight on my right for over a year before my op..? I'm going to try all these exercises so wanted to say thank you. Kind regards, Janice ( UK)
Hello , i have muscle lump in between my upper hips to lower back in just middle of back bone its about 3 inches of long and 1 inch in diameter, what is that I am worried about it and its a soft and moving lump. Please suggest
These exercises are going to help with the SYMPTOMS of your back problem, but not the cause. You might need some more specific stretching and strengthening exercises for your specific, individual needs. My advice would be to go see a physical therapist for this individualized treatment plan.
Great video and exactly the information I needed. One question I had was the mine movement at 12:35 where one leg is flat and the other is lifting towards the body and back down. When I go to put my leg back on the ground I have a loud and deep sounding click in my pelvis. Doesn’t hurt at all and I can barely tell where it’s coming from but would you have any idea what that might be from? Thanks
My lower back pain is made worse by standing in the kitchen cooking, especially first thing in the am- any tips for early morning achiness? I should note that I'm a side sleeper with pillow between knees, and was dx with herniated disc at S1, but 20 yrs ago. (Now I'm just old lol) Thanks, Doc!
I have really hurt lower part of my back, it's on my left side bottom of my spine it feels like a massive golf ball, really hurts when slightest touch on it. Would these moves help my situation it's gone on for nearly 2 weeks.
These would really help assuming you can tolerate them, Chrissie. If the trigger point release techniques are too aggressive you might start with some simpler stretches like I display in this video: th-cam.com/video/bgY7uWPOlRA/w-d-xo.html Good luck!
Another great video of urs mate . Quick question is a back mouse the same as a lower bk nodule as I have to knots / lumpy things lower bk they move round very easily Dr has done ultra scan and said its nothing so must be a knot will these exercises help and is there anything els I can do my posture is awful as well have bad forward head posture from text neck at 6ft4
Love your information about knots, however I have a body back bar due to a lot of physical immobility and would love it if you made a video of releasing different knots using one, there's not a lot of videos about them, I see the thera cane, but it seems there should be yoga stretches or breathing techniques and where the pressure point should be, I learn better watching videos....So for example maybe a 20 min video with a body back bar doing upper shoulder, I just feel very tender and think I'm doing it wrong and of all the peoples videos I've come across I would appreciate if you made some.
I have what I believe to be a Latissimus Dorsi knot a few inch below armpit-level and about and an inch or two traveling to my back. It has been hurting for a few days and today I discovered there was a knot there that may have been developing. It's been pretty painful, and kinda got a little bigger throughout the day. I just started my running routine again three weeks ago and and am fairly active. I don't think I've ever had a knot before. It feels like a swollen, painful lump under my skin. What's your opinion on this? I also quit drinking 34 days ago and some aches and pains I'm discovering are increasing some anxiety tenfold.... including this. I'm in overall good health and blood panels came back great with no issues a week and a half ago.
Ty ty!! That first stretch gave more immediate relief then anything I’ve learned over the YEARS of chiropractors and physical therapy
My absolute pleasure! So glad it helped!
this video was perfect.
well evplained, and used familiar yoga poses to target the problem.
Excellent work!.

Great video!!! Exactly what I needed it. Thank you!!!
You are so welcome! Glad it helped!
Update
After continuous struggle, x-ray and several (time wasting) visits to the chiropractor, my insurance okayed an MRI and I was diagnosed with buldged disc. I still have the knot which the message therapist said it'll take several sessions to get rid of.
Me too same situation, perplexed
Could be both
It could be a million different things
Have you made any improvements since then?
Hi Doctor I have a lumbar spine problem, I just saw your video. Is it safe to carry a quite heavy baby for as long as I maintain my exercise, the pain will not occur again? Or do I have to avoid lifting heavy things so that the pain will not occur again even though I exercise regularly? Thank u for your reply.
If you're lifting heavy objects regularly your best option is to increase your core strength so you can better tolerate the load. Here are my recommendations: th-cam.com/video/GFus5TyIlCM/w-d-xo.html
Why is this marked as an Iann Dior music video
Thanks for these great suggestions!
You bet! I hope they help!
You are the best!💯💯💯💯 so helpful!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I am glad you found this helpful.
wonderful day as well as wonderful couple and exercises ...Thank you
Thank you so much, salman abu alsameed! I hope these exercises help relieve some pain!
Good luck!
Thank you so much!
How often do you do these exercises as,3 or4 different times a day, everyday,or maybe once a day,or once week....thank you
1-2 a day should do the trick! Good luck, Tracy Craig!
Fantastic tips. Thank you so much!
You bet, Jen! I hope they help!
Another great video. Can’t wait to utilize for myself (I had a laminectomy) and for my husband whom I hope doesn’t have to get one. Thx!!
Thanks so much, Tamara! I hope these things help you and your husband!
You are welcome, Janice! I hope you find these tips helpful and thanks for commenting!
I was just trying to watch Iann’s music videos lmao
Hi, at 8:08, it is also just called the "Pelvic exercice" that is really good for pregnant women to help the baby in the head-first position.
Great video, exactly what I needed to watch!
Glad it was helpful and thanks for commenting, Kevin!
Hello , i have muscle lump in between my upper hips to lower back in just middle of back bone its about 3 inches of long and 1 inch in diameter, what is that I am worried about it and its a soft and moving lump.
Please suggest
Thanks, doc!
My pleasure!
Thanks for ur info. I have compression on right side of l3 body.. do u recommend these exercises for me.. pls suggest
Thanks
I have this too!! What is it
I also have this and can really tell when I do sit ups. What is it?
Great video
Thanks!

If the trigger point release techniques are too aggressive you might start with some simpler stretches like I display in this video: th-cam.com/video/bgY7uWPOlRA/w-d-xo.html
Good luck!
Thanks for the idea!
I am hooked on the tennis ball. It feels so good and works through my knots.
Happy to hear it, Rosie! I hope you continue to find relief! Thanks for sharing!
Thaaaaanks , really we need to move to stop getting tight muscles ,
You are welcome, Blue sky! I hope this helps you!
