      MrCrowsy I didnt say it was hard to understand i said it was complex. I live in the UK and there is thousands of people who attempt to watch American Football and do not understand it. Just because you understand cricket doesnt mean you automatically know how American Football works you would still have to learn.

    I'm a high schooler, fairly athletic I've played american football and rugby and being completely honest rugby is much more fun. No matter your size or shape you can play a certian position, more playing time, more chances with the ball and you're one team. No offensive and defensive team. You play as one.

    • @deathguppie
      @deathguppie 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Yoo Most people who enjoy football would claim those same attributes as the strengths of the game. This argument is a silly one based on perspective. They are two completely different games with a few small similarities.
      There are rugby clubs in the US, but it isn't as big as football, so people there like football. Make sense?
      Most other places in the world they play rugby, so they like that better. Most people in the world don't like root beer it's an American thing. Americans don't like snails, it's a French thing. go figure eh?

      Thank you for all your responses its giving me a great view on both games. To the one asking if i played peewee no i played high school tackle. A last thing i have to add in my opinion is (I'm not saying this about every team) that our schools linemen would trash talk the other team and after a tackle start making the other guy feel bad by showing off and stuff. I don't like that very much because yeah you play against a team but that doesn't mean they have to be so rude about it. In rugby if you do that you get a warning or sent off. I'm not saying this about everyone and its just my opinion. The other thing is that in football the ball is only in play for about 11 minutes where in rugby its in for at least 65.

    Actually, the game recognisable as rugby (formally known as football) pre-dates soccer by a long way. That is why the ball is not a sphere; it was too costly and technologically to produce a soccer ball. It was much easier to sew 4 bits of lens-shaped leather together rather than the 32-odd hexagonal/pentagonal pieces required for the functional sphere.

    I think the best way to see which sport is better player wise is for a football player to play rugby and a rugby player to play football. My opinion, rugby will definitely win, the fitness of rugby players is impeccable, a full 80 minutes of almost non stop contact but football, what? 4 hours of 10'second impacts? Well at least we don't play 'soccer' as you Americans call it, (by the way, no idea how long football games last but I think it's about that)

    • @Fish4Man61
      @Fish4Man61 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Will Tindall
      This is based on several misconceptions about American football. Let me simply patch quote myself from a section of my overall reply to the video.
      "American football gives breaks to the players unlike Rugby though, to catch a breather. Don't count that against them though, through the 3 or so hours many of them are worn down and cramping up just like the rugby players because of the intensity. How is it more intense, given the "stop and start" nature of American football? The average play in American football lasts for approximately 4-6 seconds, followed by a period of approximately 25-40 seconds of pause. This time is used for physical and mental recovery from each play, as well as time to assess the last play and coordinate the next play. However, most importantly this enables players to get prepared to commit 100% effort to the next play. Due to the continuous nature of other sports, there are rarely moments when these sports exhibit 100% effort due to the fatigue associated with non-stop play. This directly factors into the first topic of intensity of the impacts and physicality of the hits of American football over rugby and why it had so many fatalities before they were forced to put in protection or be banned from being a sport in the 1920s.
      Sports like soccer, baseball, rugby, cricket, hockey, and even basketball also involve a tremendous amount of time for players to simply stand around in the middle of play. This is something that simply never happens with football - every player is giving 100% effort and concentration to every play, with no standing around. This is something that few other sports - if any - can claim."

    • @rodolfovaldes9629
      @rodolfovaldes9629 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Will Tindall I agree with you in many areas. But I would change the word better. Has no sense. What is better handball or basquet? it does make any sense. Rugby is no better sport than any other. Rugby Union players from high level, has many advantages over some NFL players. Some Rugby league players the same. But there's no better in this matter. There are many rugby player who played at many levels of AF but the media is recently noticed the early Jarryd Hayne "the rugby player" as they call him. But remember one thing: in AF is more difficult to stand out because they are 53 in each team and they change the teams all the time. If they wouldn't do that, as we do in Rugby, would be easier. You will have less minutes in the field, that's a big thing. But Rugby is a harder sport and it hurts more.

    Rugby.
    -Played worldwide
    -Every Rugby player runs 4.5 miles per game on average.
    -Every game is 2 x 40 minutes of play with a 10 minute break.
    -22 players per team with 15 on at any time
    -Rugby players have following skill set run, kick, tackle, pass, scrum, line out, try.
    -Fastest Rugby player recorded over 100 meters 10.27 seconds.
    -Average Rugby player travels 4.5 miles per game mostly jogging or running over 80 minutes
    -Every Rugby player has all plays and set pieces memorised throughout the game.
    -Players travel over at least 12 timezones with professional teams world wide.
    -Largest professional player 201.7kg
    Average tackles per game per Rugby player 16
    -Safety equipment used by rugby players = mouth guard
    American Handegg.
    -Played USA
    -American Handegg cornerback/wide receivers runs 1.25 miles per game but does not play for the entire 12 minutes of play he also is the only player to travel over any measurable distance.
    -Every play is 30 second bursts with each game only 12 minutes long on average but it is spread over more than 3 hours on top of that there is 16 minute of breaks for half time and quarter time breaks.
    -53 players in a team with 11 on at any time
    -American Handegg players have one or two of the following skill sets run, kick, tackle, pass, block.
    -Fastest American Handegg player recorded over 100 meters 10.00 seconds
    -Players have receivers inside there helmets telling them what play to make or where to go.
    -Players travel over 4 timezones with professional teams America wide.
    - largest professional player 122kg
    -Average tackles per game per handegg player 4
    -Equipment used by American Handegg players = Helmet, facemask, shoulder pads, knee pads, thigh pads, hip pads, gloves, jaw pads, rib protecters, arm pads, back plates, cup, visors, padded girdles, mouth-guards, neck rolls, padded vests, wrist coaches.
    This is simply why I prefer to watch and play Rugby, there is blood, concussion, sweat and thinking on your feet it is not to disrespect Handegg it is simply why it is popular worldwide and is a true athletic sport. at least no one reading this probably follows soccer.

    I've played both sports and I feel like rugby is certainly more active in terms of the entire team, however I feel like american football is much more strategic and team-oriented. Plus the padding allows everyone to play at their utmost level of intensity, no hesitation when you hit someone, not the case in rugby, you may think you're going 100% but when you fly headlong into someone's kneecap, you will probably hesitate slightly afterwards when you attempt to tackle someone, that's just human nature. If you want to play a game that is constantly moving and a lot of playtime, then go with rugby. If you want to play a game where you plan your strategy based on the strengths and weaknesses of each team and you really want to annihilate someone, play football. JUST AN OPINION

      The Comment Referee football over pays their players, rugby is a lot more strategic in the sense there is more within the game (line outs, scrums, rucks) and rugby actually gives the big dudes a chance to run which doesn’t happen a lot in football

    • @56lespaul56
      @56lespaul56 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rugby has a lot of dynamic strategy, as in pieces are moving continously as a play develops. I played both sports. I found that football is like chess, in which both players take turns to make a move. Rugby is like chess if both players moved freely without taking turns, just continous movement. Also, in rugby, each player has a broader skill set since you play defense AND offense
