Ozzy's solo career is my favorite band/artist of all time, followed by Black Sabbath. I simply love all the formations and all the albums, the classic heavy metal ones, the glam/hard rock with the amazing The Ultimate Sin, the solid albums with Zakk, all the musicians were always legendary (I mean, Jake Lee, RR, Zakk, Daisley, Tommy Aldrige, Don Airey, it doesnt get much better than that) and Ozzy itself has a very unique voice. Yeah I know some albums are weaker than others, like the 90s and 00s ones, but I think even these ones are fun and great in their own way. Just love everything this guy has done. Long live Ozzy!!
The genius of Bob Daisley was the real reason those early albums contained such memorable songs. Yes, there's Ozzy himself and Randy Rhoads and the solid foundation of Lee Kerslake. But at the end of the day, you can always tell when the songs are being written by Daisley (they're the good ones that you remember afterward).
Other than Blizzard Of Ozz & Diary Of A Madman I find Ozzy's solo career to be very mediocre to poor. I tried to like Bark At The Moon but other than title track & Centre Of Eternity its slop. Same with his other albums maybe 2-3 decent songs.
My beer for tonight was a Doom Bar Amber Ale whilst eating my Fish n Chips supper As for Tonight's task I pretty much haven't heard anything since 1988 so will have to go with the ones I know. Fave 2 is, Blizzrd of Oz fave track Mr.Crowley, / Bark at The Moon, fave track Waiting for Darkness. Least Faves are, No Rest For The Wicked / The Ultimate sin but still like these 2 very much Wildcard is Talk of The Devil, love this live album.
The highlight of this episode, without question, was the moment Simon whipped out Ordinary Man; Watching the other two during that whole thing was priceless! 😂😂😂 Haven't followed Ozzy's solo career outside of his first two albums, and Ozzmosis (which I like for the most part.) Heard a ton of his songs on the radio back in the '90s. Sports? I was expecting that to be followed by, "Just kidding." Cool to know it wasn't a joke. I own the album, and I like it. Looking forward to that. Great episode, guys. Cracked me up, as usual.
Always look forward to your shows guys! 👍I only have the first five Ozzy albums. Favourites - Bark at the Moon. I was a big fan of the single `So Tired` and still have it on 7" single. I remember when it was out Ozzy saying that it would have been a number one if it didn`t have his name next to it. (Meaning because he was associated with heavy metal the `pop` radio stations didn`t play it much.) I think he was right and it would/could/should have been a big hit. The guitar playing on the title track is as you know SENSATIONAL! Blizzard of Oz - I have lost count of how many times I`ve watched `Mr.Crowley` live on YT with Ozzy, Randy, Tommy, Rudy and a keyboard player who I`m not sure if it`s Don Airey or not? Anyway it is sensational! Wildcard - The Ultimate Sin. Favourite track `Shot in the Dark`. Absolutely love the intro to this one and it sounds brilliant on 12" vinyl! No least favourite due to only having the first five! 🙂
That's funny, because of 'So Tired' Bark at the Moon to me is really sub-par, I only really like the title track and the rest is meh...(my opinion of course). These days I only listen to the 'Tribute' live album...
My wildcard : Down to Earth, some great melodic moments, in-your-face heaviness from Zakk, good songwriting I don't understand why it's always been overlooked
1:15:03 My reaction was, Really? Wow! I never thought that Huey Lewis would be ranked on SoT. Considering the band have been mocked for decades, & deemed uncool on nearly every music compilation show that has the word, worst, in the title. I suppose you’ll no doubt be hit with loads of American Psycho quotes, & sarcastic questions such as, ‘Is that the album that has Ghostbusters on?’ You are brave men & we salute you on attempting to convince the SoT audience that it really is hip to be square.
My two favorites are the Jake E. Lee ones. Bark at the Moon is one the best sounding records of the 80's and Bob Daisley is one of my favorite bass players. Bark at the Moon, Rock n' Roll Rebel and Centre of Eternity are unbeatable tracks. Jake's riff writing is above average (Bark might be a top 5 all-time favorite riff, and the main one might even compete with the chorus riff). Slow Down is a grower because of this. He shreds tastefully, serving the songs, with great fills as well. Some of these solos build around ideas like a song within a song. You hear this on Now You See Me Now You Don't, and on the outro to You're No Different. Little intricate details get you revisiting these albums. It's the same with The Ultimate Sin- which might be more consistent song-wise even though Bark sounded better overall. The tone is more in line with Jake's dry tone on future records. I quite like Randy Castillo's drumming- tribal sounding at times. You get more heavy rockers on this album and Jake really put in the time to fill it with little sonic embellishments and gimmicky techniques that you can dissect for years. It's a pleasure seeing youtube guitarists pull off some of these whacky sounds. *Least favorites: Black Rain and Ordinary Man. Black Rain is really forgettable. Even Zakk's playing doesn't save a record that's uninspired. Ordinary Man is pretty ordinary. Different musicians and songwriting teams on each track make it very inconsistent. I'm not just taking a shot at Post Malone or Justin Bieber's session guitarists. They could very well be hard working guys in their own right. But when you set a specific standard... Ozzy needed an actual band, just three guys. If that's Slash, Duff and Will Ferrell on drums then so be it. I don't think Slash is the best fit, not a huge fan... but if Ozzy really wanted at least you would have a more rockin' delivery on each track. Ozzy became such a pop culture icon that these records aren't really for metal fans anymore, they're for everyone (*shrugs in the background)... *Ozzmosis is that mid-tier album that I just love. Perry Mason is a favorite Ozzy song; Zakk is incredible on that. See You on the Other Side is beautiful. Maybe not perfect but there's a good amount of decent, chunky mid-pacers that always makes it worth revisiting even if it needed some of the speed metal aspect that got left behind...
I am 26 and grew up in the early 2000s first introduced to Ozzy by his show and then my dad started playing his music for me. If it wasn’t for Ozzy I wouldn’t listen to any other rock bands that I listen to or even watch this channel, Ozzy changed my music life. Great show!
Great choice of discussion as always fellas! I can't choose a particular top 3 as they always vary depending on the day etc however it's between 'Diary Of A Madman', 'Bark At The Moon' & 'The Ultimate Sin.' Randy and particularly Jake are 2 of my all-time favourite guitarists, for many years now. I like Zakk and his aggressive style and sound too, but those Randy and Jake records tend to get me more still to this day. Cheers Gents. 🍻
No Rest For The Wicked remains the only one I can listen to all the way through. I was done after Ozzmosis. I would add that “Tomorrow” is a massively underrated track. 🤟🏼
Down To Earth is the last Ozzy album I bought. I was completely done after that. I agree with you that No Rest For The Wicked is the last Ozzy album that every song is great.
I saw Ozzy and UFO in Birmingham Alabama in 1982. This was on the Diary of a Madman tour 2 weeks before the plane crash. I feel fortunate I got to see Randy in a live performance. That was one of the loudest concerts I have ever been to. Great show!
Cool show mates!!. I have to go w Diary Of a Madman, Blizzard, 2 favorites (Bark & NRFTW are awesome as well) Under Cover & Black Rain are absolutely horrendous Wildcard - No More Tears
Great show. My 2 favourites, Diary and Bark at the Moon. Wild card - No rest for the Wicked. Least Favourite, Ordinary Man and Undercover. Steven, congrats to Scotland for that amazing win vs Norway in the Euros qualifying match.
Diary is my favorite thing Ozzy’s done in or out of Sabbath. Pete is a bit meh for “Tonight”, but what a great song. Daisley’s bass is stunning. The first 2 had his best lineup, and Daisley and Kerslake are beasts. Just as much of a game changer as Randy.
I think Ordinary Man and Patient #9 are both very entertaining albums. I would say that except for his covers album, he never did a bad album. He never went Nostradamus or Eye II Eye or St Anger. They're not great albums by any means, they're no Diary or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath but I'll take them over Forbidden or TYR anytime. 2 favs: Diary and Blizzard 2 least favs: Under Cover and Down to Earth WIld card: Ozzmosis (love that record!) and Speak of the Devil (no Iommi but it's the best Live album featuring only Sabbath songs imo). Cheers.
No Rest for the Wicked is my favorite Ozzy album. But I agree that after that things went downhill quickly. I love the earlier work of Jake E Lee and Randy Rhodes, but I find this album more complete, consistent, and heavier. For me, this is the heaviest Ozzy album of all time.
Another great episode! Glad Simon is feeling better! this is was pretty easy... Favorites: 1. Diary Of A Madman 2. Blizzard Of Ozz Least Favorite: 1. Ultimate Sin 2. Ordinary Man Wild Card: Ozmosis
1. Ultimate Sin 2. Blizzard Of Ozz 3. Bark At The Moon 4. Diary Of A Madman 5. No More Tears 6. Black Rain 7. No Rest For The Wicked 8. Down To Earth 9. Ozzmosis 10. Patient #9 11. Scream 12. Under Cover 13. Ordinary Man
If you could combine the best songs from Blizzard of Oz with the best songs from Diary of a Madman, you would quite possibly have the best metal album of the 80s.
Today’s beer is Red Trolley Ale from the Karl Strauss brewing company in Southern California. This is an Irish Red ale with a nice malty profile and a not too heavy 5.8% ABV. It is pretty common in SoCal and often available in restaurants/bars. To answer a follow up question you asked a few episodes back Steven, our trip to Scotland will take us to Edinburgh, Pitlochry, Inverness, Isle of Skye, Oban and back to Edinburgh. Very much looking forward to our visit. Cheers gentlemen! 🍻
Simon fair play mate, I need to get hold of a Maiden Stout. Excellent video lads.. my fave album is actually ‘Diary of a Madman’ … I had the pleasure of meeting my bass hero Geezer Butler last week at his book signing in London. Sabbath/Ozzy are my favourite artists so really can appreciate this video 🍻👏
I think we can all agree that the first two are the strongest. After that, it gets interesting. Is it Bark at the Moon, No More Tears, or No Rest for the Wicked? Frankly speaking the others have very little to offer bar a couple of scorching tracks. Bark at the Moon edges third place by a bat wing for me.
Good to see and hear this crew again. I first heard Ozzy on Bark at the Moon so I don't have the same attachment to the first two album's. Ultimate Sin and No More Tears are my favourite.
Ozzy is who got me in to heavy music. I will always have his back. For me Blizzard and Diary will always be the essential listens but I honestly have to say I do not think he has made a bad solo record. I like them all. I agree with Mr Reid about Live and Loud. Goose bumps indeed. Also if he does make another record, and i am sure he will, I will be first in line to purchase it. Ozzy rules!!!
I don't think anything tops the all-too-brief Randy Rhoads era but I have to say I do like No More Tears, Ordinary Man & Patient Number 9 quite a bit. Black Rain & No Rest For The Wicked have some good stuff on it too, and Ozzmosis ("Perry Mason")...Still my all time fave Ozzy performances might be on Gary Moore's "Led Clones" & on "Close My Eyes Forever" with Lita Ford (from her 1988 album Lita)
Another fun UK Connection. I found this more difficult than I thought it would be. My relationship with Ozzy has been long, but I haven't been listening for awhile and generally it's Blizzard of Ozz. The last album I picked up was Scream. However, I found most of the catalogue except the first few har to judge as in most cases, I really enjoyed over half the album. So my first favourite is Blizzard of Ozz and then ties for 2nd are Bark at the Moon (UK version with Spiders. Why is Slow Down on the US version? It's worse than One up the B' Side.), Diary of a Madman and Tribute( my first Ozzy album). Least favourite is definitely Undercover, I have neve heard ths until last week, it took me roughly 8 minutes to listen to it. Sunshine of Your Love was the only track I heard all the way through. Bruce's version of Dudes is a masterpiece compared to Ozzy's. There is no other least favourite as I found listening to the albums enjoyable, if forgettable. I would say that all post Ozzmosis albums have at least 4 songs I really liked. The wildcar for me is No Rest for the Wicked.
Could not agree more. No More Tears is the last good album of The Ozzman's discography. For good reference, that album was released in 1991. Even more perspective, that is 32 years! since anything decent.
I am in 100% agreement with Pete on Diary of a Madman. The title track is my all-time favorite song from all genres of metal bar none. Doesn't get any better.
I guess the bottom line is that I don't need to investigate the Ozzy albums of the last 30 years or so that passed me by as they came out. The albums with Randy are the best and Jake's tenure was good as well. I will just remain mostly oblivious to most everything post 1986 from Ozzy.
Exactly how I feel about Black Sabbath (although for me it's circa 1981 instead of 1986). The solo Ozzy/Randy Rhoads albums are without a doubt (for me anyway) his best but there are at least 5-6 others post-Randy that I also enjoy quite a bit
I think Zakk Wylde era (first four) is worth it... The Gus G one had moments here and there. I don't disagree with the peak period, but I think you lose a lot by not investigating. It's almost a third of the discography that puts up a fight
I loved ozzy growing up as a kid and listened to songs like crazy train mr crowley over tge mountain flying high again but now as an adult I enjoy entire albums of ozzy so my least favorite is Ordinary Man there's some decent tracks on there like tye title track and under the Graveyard and straight to hell but as a whole album it's not good but my favorite would have to be Diary of a madman
I can't give a definitive list cuz I find most of Ozzy's latter material severely lacking. Which would shock 1983-me right to the core. 1. Diary of a Madman 2. Blizzard of Ozz ... 6. No More Tears 7. Ozzmosis WC: Speak of the Devil
Agreed re your top 2 pix. The magic ingredients in the songwriting were due to ex-Widowmaker / ex-Rainbow bassist Bob Daisley. Without Bob, Ozzy wouldn't have been able to deliver the goods. However Mrs. Oswald treated Bob ( and Lee Kerslake) atrociously.
@@garyh.238 Widowmaker (UK) was a very good band (Luther Grosvenor aka Ariel Bender & Bob Tench) - in all fairness Grosvenor/Bender co-wrote a good chunk of their tunes...It's amazing how many quality bands Daisley was in. Some that I like (besides Sabbath/Rainbow/Ozzy): Uriah Heep, Chickenshack, Kahvas Jute, Living Loud (with Lee Kerslake & Steve Morse), Mother's Army, The Hoochie Coochie Men (Jon Lord) & my fave Gary Moore period (Victims Of The Future - After The War), plus some later Moore blues albums. And I'm sure I'm forgetting some...
I feel like the earlier albums are the strongest ones. Having said that, my two favorites are Blizzard Of Ozz and No More Tears. I know that the latter has very slick production, but the songs are killer anyway! My two least favorites are Black Rain and Down To Earth. They’re not terrible at all, I’m just not really into those that much. My wild card is Ozzmosis. The production is a bit strange, especially Deen Castronovo’s drum sounds, but it’s a great collection of tunes. Geezer’s on it. Rick Wakeman’s on it. Perry Mason and I Just Want You were great choices for singles. He came out of retirement with a vengeance with that album! Great show as always, gents!
Probably for me, Blizzard Of Ozz, and, The Ultimate Sin. Yes I love Diary & Moon, but the two former are my faves. I see people bash, The Ultimate Sin, but I’ve always loved it. Was a big fan of Ron Nevison through that period. Whether it be the 1985 Heart album, or Ozzy, Kiss’ Crazy Nights, or Europe’s Out of this world. Love all those albums. The last Ozzy album I really liked was No More Tears. He’s been on auto-pilot ever since. There might be a good song here or there since then, but….
Blizzard is always my number 1 followed by Diary. Revelation Mother Earth is a great song, one of his best. How many albums does Rudy Sarzo get his picture on where he never played a note? At least 4 or 5 including Quiet Riot, Ozzy, and Whitesnake, this includes videos also.
Great show guys! The issue with Ozzy solo material is an inconsistency of band members and Sharon. The first two had Bob, Lee, and Randy which created his two best albums. After Randy’s passing, he had Bob up until No More Tears writing lyrics, and then the wheels fell off. Too many musicians, too much Production, and too much Sharon.
What I don’t get with this favorite vs. best album discussion is, wouldn’t you be convinced that your favorite album is also the best album? And picking the best album is a subjective thing as well, it’s not like there’s a way to measure the quality of music. Many Rush fans would disagree, but since Power Windows is my favorite Rush album, I also believe it’s their best. Maybe this favorite vs. best thing would make a good discussion topic for Pete and Martin Popoff.
Well, I can like something better technically but it doesn't mean it'll be the record I hear most often... Sometimes a "best" album can have everything you could ask for but be longer because of that and more fatiguing. An album with four stinkers can have your absolute favorites, and a record with ten good songs that aren't amazing can feel worse. I figured some middle ground in that. When I rank favorites they literally have to be albums I hear often. Like once a year, at least. Otherwise they're not favorites, and I have to wonder if I'm overprotective because they fall in line with expectations.
I think it’s down to general opinion. For example Moving Pictures is widely accepted to be Rush’s best album, however it’s not my favourite. Conversely Hold your Fire would be in my top 5 Rush albums though is generally considered to be weak by the majority of people. That’s the difference.
My top three Ozzy solo albums... 1.Diary of a Madman 2. Blizzard of Oz 3. No Rest for the Wicked My favorite song is Diary of a Madman. Blizzard of Oz through No More Tears (and maybe part of Ozzmosis) are the highlights of his career.
i saw that blizzard / motorhead tour as well. in Calgary. it was the last show of the tour. during motorheads last song the ozzy crew came out and threw pies at motorhead. awesome.
Have now listened to the show, highly entertaining as usual, Huey Lewis will be interesting as I don't own it and probably only know the obvious ones, so that's some homework for me and Uncle Simon. Next time you do a fav/least fav/wildcard show, can I suggest Queensryche? Definitely highs and lows aplenty in there, and another contentious covers album...
@@simonbrayfromsot1375 "Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself", it says, and then adds, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine"... Preach, moi, surely not! Instead I shall simply refer you to the last line of Some Like It Hot... But yes,the Taste Police have been called and find you guilty, sir...
Coming in late. Had a busy Father’s Day weekend. The beer I’m having now is out of South Carolina. It’s a Doppelbock called Low & Slow 8.2%ABV. 🍻 Favorite Ozzy albums are #1- DIARY OF A MADMAN #2- BLIZZARD OF OZZ 2 fantastic albums. Ozzy sounds great, the songs, are great and the guitars, oh my,! Randy is just simply amazing. Shame we lost him so young! Least favorites #1-UNDER COVER (what a 💩) no use for it #2- Patient #9 Now I must say I agree with Simon on Ordinary Man. I do kinda like this album. It’s not early days Ozzy no, but with what all he had been going through a lot of these songs kinda tell his story. Simon and myself might be the only 2 people that like it and that’s fine. We’ll crank it and drink beer together. 👍🏻 Great show as always and hope you had a great Father’s Day weekend.
My favorite Ozzy albums would be No rest for the wicked and Blizzard of Ozz My least favorites Black Rain , Down to Earth My Wild card would be Ozzmosis. I love Tomorrow.
The end live album sounds really good i just listened to it for the first time the other day and i love it. No doubt it was definitely fixed up in the studio especially Ozzie's vocals but i love how it sounds, great heavy bass and guitar tone.
Brilliant episode.top 2 Blizzard and Diary ,Bottom 2 Scream and Black Rain my wildcard would be ozzys book I am ozzy he’s just a naturally funny bloke.
Curled up with a Mirror Pond pale ale from Deschutes Brewery (5%). Hits the spot on a warm day.🍻 Tuned in hoping to get a recommendation for some of Ozzy's stuff from the last 30 years to listen to. Other then Simon liking 'Ordinary Man', sounds like there's not anything worth the time. I admit to being frozen in time with the first two. But what a first two.🎶
My two favorite albums are Bark At The Moon and The Ultimate Sin ( Diary of a Madman and Blizzard of Ozz follow really close ). My wildcard album is No More Tears. My two least favorite albums are Black Rain and Down to Earth. I haven´t listened to Ozzy´s live albums or the cover album, so I didn´t count them here.
2 Favorites: Bark at the Moon, Blizzard of Ozz Least favorites: everything after Ozzmosis 1. Bark at the Moon 2. Blizzard of Ozz 3. Diary of a Madman 4. The Ultimate Sin 5. No More Tears/No Rest for the Wicked 7. Ozzmosis
No Rest For The Wicked has always been my favorite. I also quite like Ultimate Sin and feel it could have been just as strong as Bark At The Moon had the production been less poppy. One of the stinkers that didn’t get mentioned was Down to Earth which I was very excited for when it was released and ended up being pretty disappointed.
HELLO, morning after the show before, and I am going to listen to it after posting my choices because I don't want to be unduly influenced by your undoubtedly enjoyable wittering! Haven't read the comments yet either for the same reason. So... Top 2 = Blizzard Of Ozz & Diary of a Madman. Sorry, good as what a lot of what came afterwards was, Randy Rhoads' composing and playing elevates both these to utter classic status... Bottom 2 = Scream & Down To Earth The 2 albums I never go back to if I'm in the mood for a bit of Ozzy... Wild Card... Much, much harder to choose, but I'm going to be a bit contrary (I think - Simon probably has this as his favourite!!!) and go with... The Ultimate Sin. Not perfect, and the production was a bit thin, but the are some real gems on here, not least Killer of Giants, the title track and Shot In The Dark. OK, going to listen now! No beer, but, following my visit to the Lakes, came back with lots of local ales so will be raising a glass of RAVEN RED from Bowness Bay Brewing later in the day...
Agreed on your top 2 Iain. A big part of Ozzy's success on these comes down to the songwriting of Bob Daisley. Bob was terribly mistreated by Mr. & Mrs. Oswald after this.
This should be a good one. I will say that I like solo Ozzy more than Black Sabbath overall. That's based on owning 14 Ozzy albums & for me BS basically ceased to put out albums that interested me after 1981...
Only Ozzy's first three albums really did anything for me, not too much after those. I think Sabbath continued to make interesting albums, Ozzy just sort of followed trends.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 The first 3 Ozzy records are definitely the best but I do like several others quite a bit. Never been a huge BS fan but they had their moments (for me almost exclusively in the 70's)...One of my all time fave Ozzy performances is actually on Gary Moore's "Led Clones"
Honestly Pete you hit the nail on the head. Artists are always like "yeah we picked our favorite songs we grew up with" and then you're subjected to the same bunch of obvious choices. Queensryche made Take Cover which whilst was bad still had some tracks you would never expected.
Even though i'm not a fan of "take cover", Queensryches cover of " Scarborough Fair", that they did during the Rage for Order sessions is probably my #1 favorite cover song of all time. The acoustic version done for MTV unplugged is good, but not as good as the single.
My favourite Ozzy album changes between No More Tears, No Rest for the Wicked, and The Ultimate Sin. Which of the 3 is my favourite depends on how I fell that day. If I had to choose one, then I'd probably go with No Rest.
@@scottthompson4193 Its good for the era when it came out but people didnt know his albums would get so much worse later on so thats why Ozzmosis is more liked now.
I'm not even sure Bob got any of his writing ideas into No More Tears. I think in the end he just played bass because Mike Inez's playing wasn't doing it for them.
@@FredPena-rd5cf Absolutely!! I gotta say too, I catch myself liking BLACK RAIN more and more. Out of the "more" modern albums, I enjoy that one most overall.
Great video gents, hope you're all well! Ozzy definitely has a career of two very distinct halves, one excellent and one crap. My favourite two are the albums are the first ones that I bought. My number one is No More Tears, this was the first Ozzy album I bought, I got it on tape and still love it! My other favourite is Ultimate Sin, I absolutely love Shot In The Dark, I still remember seeing it on Top of The Pops and thinking WOW! Least favourites are Down To Earth, to me the beginning of the descent into mediocrity, Ozzmosis isn't great but it's not terrible either, and Ordinary Man, which is just really terrible! Wildcard is Live & Loud, to me an absolutely great live album.
Nice one guys really enjoyed the episode Diary is an amazing album and wow what a title track, Ultimate sin gets the 2nd spot as it's not the best admittedly but it's a fav of mine due to where i came in, the least fav albums the covers album under cover number 1 and scream , wildcards well Bark at the moon not really a wildcard but i love it and i have to pick it and No More Tears finishes it off
I saw the Blizzard and Diary tours with Randy. Phenomenal. I agree completely with Pete about the production of Blizzard. I wish the sound quality was better. Still, Blizzard is my second favorite Ozzy album. Of course Diary is my favorite. I don’t disagree with the choice of Bark at the Moon though. Just imagine how much pressure Jake was under replacing Randy Rhoads. He did a great job.
I actually find Scream to be excellent. I think almost every song is memorable. Gus G also has some great parts on there. I know something like Let It Die is very different for an Ozzy song, but he takes a chance and I think it's a memorable tune in the catalog. Digging Me Down is fantastic! The title track is catchy. Even his more gravelly voice works for me. Maybe the album will get reassessed one day.
For me diary is a dark charming strock of brilliance..I think n.m.t is a very very good album. Excellent work on it..the ultimate sin will always have a special place in my metal heart because it was the 1st ozzy album I got when I came out in 86 ..I do love blizzard and bark 2..the new album is awesome ..I think he should call it a day now on a positive note. He's done his time..true legend..hi from New Zealand to all the folks that love metal and ozzy..cheers Pete.😊
Favorites are Dairy of a Madman and Blizzard of Oz, then the Jake E. Lee albums, then the first two Zak albums. That is a great six album run. Unfortunately, I don't think you could take the best of the next seven and be better than any of the first six.
Ozzy is a great artist for this format - I feel he was very, very lucky to find Randy after being kicked out of Sabbath. The problem is that it's been Ozzy Inc ever since Randy died (much to the misfortune of some great musicians who got caught up in it, though Zakk seems to have found a way of dealing with it) and it's hard to ignore the musick biz bs vibes that permeate the rest of the catalog. Favs: Diary of a Madman (awesome and ambitious), No More Tears (Lemmy is the secret sauce here, but still some stunning playing from Zakk). Least favs: Under Cover (I'm a big Cantrell fan and he is totally wasted here)... and I guess Ordinary Man (pop product of the most vapid kind) but it's hard to choose. Wild Card: Ozzmosis - I kind of see him trying to reinvent himself around the mid-90s metal scene, it's hit and miss but when it hits it really rocks. A bit underrated I think.
I love Diary of a Madman & Blizzard of Ozz, but Diary wins. I’ll admit after Randy was killed my interest in Ozzy solo was lost and my tastes were changing, so I did not follow him much after Bark at the Moon
Please listen to your Talk of the Devil vinyl Simon! Please! It deserves to be heard! Brad Gillis' guitar tone alone is worth the time and if you do take the time to spin it, play it LOUD! Trust me when I say you'll be glad you did. Here's my two cents. My two favorites: 1) Diary of a Madman 2) Blizzard of Ozz My two least favs: 1) Black Rain 2) Scream My Wild Card: Speak of the Devil (until the new remix of Live Evil came out, this album blew Sabbath out of the water! IMHO)
Finally getting round to this a little late, as not long back from Lifesigns gig at Ivory Black's- and worthy of being touted as best UK prog band going. Hopefully plenty on here caught them and have picked up the new live in Netherlands CD. They are stupendous and worthy of much bigger audiences This task was relatively straight forward. Top two are blizzard and diary. Least two Ordinary, Black Rain (excluding covers because it's only fair to judge this on genuine Ozzy original material, regardless of how much writing credit Ozzy takes). Wild Card- I was going to go with Ultimate or no more tears, but I find them up in the top half for me. So despite its poppiness etc, I'm going with Ozzmosis. Not great, but generally agreeable and decent
Probably due to my age, it's the early albums i hold most dear. Ultimate sin was the last new purchase, but continued to see live. I think Stephen saw the theatre of madness tour, when Ozzy played 3 dates only.
Favorite: No More Tears (first album I bought from Ozzy and it is still solid). Least Favorite: Ozzmosis (enjoyed it at the time, not so much now. "Perry Mason" still rocks though). I haven't heard any albums after Ozzmosis and it sounds like that was a good decision.
I'm with Pete, seen that Blizzard of Oz tour & the follow up Diary are the best. Love Bark, the ultimate sin, no more tears. Ozzmosis, an underrated album.
so good Ozzy's early stuff - I bought Blizzard when it came out, was at school, and it was just fantastic. Still is.
The first 4 albums are my favorites.😃👍
Doesn’t Daisley have a writing credit on every song up through No Rest For The Wicked? I might be wrong
Agreed 100%.
Other than Blizzard Of Ozz & Diary Of A Madman I find Ozzy's solo career to be very mediocre to poor. I tried to like Bark At The Moon but other than title track & Centre Of Eternity its slop. Same with his other albums maybe 2-3 decent songs.
@@stevemcnary7963 I like most of it up to The Ultimate Sin. Once Zakk Wylde comes in, you can count me out. I hate me some Zakk Fleabeard Wylde.
It was mostly because of Rhoads
My beer for tonight was a Doom Bar Amber Ale whilst eating my Fish n Chips supper
As for Tonight's task I pretty much haven't heard anything since 1988 so will have to go with the ones I know.
Fave 2 is, Blizzrd of Oz fave track Mr.Crowley, / Bark at The Moon, fave track Waiting for Darkness.
Least Faves are, No Rest For The Wicked / The Ultimate sin but still like these 2 very much
Wildcard is Talk of The Devil, love this live album.
Another fun filled Saturday afternoon in NJ with the trio. Like Pete, I’m currently slapping on. Live & loud 9️⃣3️⃣. Thx guys 👍💯
Great show gents, for me:
Favourites: The Ultimate Sin / Blizzard of Oz
Least Favourites: Under Cover / Scream
Wildcard: Talk of the Devil
The highlight of this episode, without question, was the moment Simon whipped out Ordinary Man; Watching the other two during that whole thing was priceless!
😂😂😂
Haven't followed Ozzy's solo career outside of his first two albums, and Ozzmosis (which I like for the most part.) Heard a ton of his songs on the radio back in the '90s.
Sports? I was expecting that to be followed by, "Just kidding." Cool to know it wasn't a joke. I own the album, and I like it. Looking forward to that.
Great episode, guys. Cracked me up, as usual.
Best livestream team. another great fav video put to bed. Really enjoyed the🦇 discussion and thoughts on
this discography.🦇
@@andywitch666 Rock n Roll Rebel is great
My wildcard : Down to Earth, some great melodic moments, in-your-face heaviness from Zakk, good songwriting I don't understand why it's always been overlooked
I always liked that album, helped me get through high school.
That would be my pick as well. Really good album
It’s a very underrated album. The last good album that Ozzy did.
1:15:03
My reaction was, Really? Wow!
I never thought that Huey Lewis would be ranked on SoT.
Considering the band have been mocked for decades, & deemed uncool on nearly every music compilation show that has the word, worst, in the title.
I suppose you’ll no doubt be hit with loads of American Psycho quotes, & sarcastic questions such as, ‘Is that the album that has Ghostbusters on?’
You are brave men & we salute you on attempting to convince the SoT audience that it really is hip to be square.
I Love the UK Connection and I dig Janick !!! My fav Ozzy album Diary of A Madman, Blizzard of Oz! Least fav Scream. Honorable Mention Ultimate Sin.
Wow u like ultimate sin more than blizzard that's unusual.
@@martymartin2894 Actually now you say that, I'm not sure I do 🤣 Blizzard is right up there too no doubt. All depends what mood I'm in really.
No Rest For The Wicked remains the only one I can listen to all the way through. I was done after Ozzmosis. I would add that “Tomorrow” is a massively underrated track. 🤟🏼
I’m pretty much agreeing with that although ozzmosis is still pretty poor
Ozzmosis was awesome thanks to Geezer Butler and Rick Wakeman's contributions. Also his last really good album.
Down To Earth is the last Ozzy album I bought. I was completely done after that. I agree with you that No Rest For The Wicked is the last Ozzy album that every song is great.
+1
Liked Ozzmosis at the time, but it has not held up that well for me
No Rest For the Wicked is my personal favorite. It was the first record after Tribute I heard of Ozzy, the first "new" album by him.
I saw Ozzy and UFO in Birmingham Alabama in 1982. This was on the Diary of a Madman tour 2 weeks before the plane crash. I feel fortunate I got to see Randy in a live performance. That was one of the loudest concerts I have ever been to. Great show!
Feel very fortunate, I would've been just that bit too young anyway.
I love the what are you drinking part.
Cool show mates!!. I have to go w Diary Of a Madman, Blizzard, 2 favorites (Bark & NRFTW are awesome as well)
Under Cover & Black Rain are absolutely horrendous
Wildcard - No More Tears
Bob Daisley rules! His book is the best reference there is of Ozzy's early solo career!
Great show. My 2 favourites, Diary and Bark at the Moon. Wild card - No rest for the Wicked. Least Favourite, Ordinary Man and
Undercover.
Steven, congrats to Scotland for that amazing win vs Norway in the Euros qualifying match.
But when sports came out in 83, they really came into their own.
...commercially and artistically.
I love all up to No More Tears not much after to be honest but Diary Of A Madman stands above by a country mile an absolute masterpiece
Great show as always. Personally I’d like to hear more about the beer!! Googling Iron Maiden imperial stout - I need to have that!!🤘🏻🍺
Diary is my favorite thing Ozzy’s done in or out of Sabbath. Pete is a bit meh for “Tonight”, but what a great song. Daisley’s bass is stunning. The first 2 had his best lineup, and Daisley and Kerslake are beasts. Just as much of a game changer as Randy.
Well said ✌️✌️
I think Ordinary Man and Patient #9 are both very entertaining albums. I would say that except for his covers album, he never did a bad album. He never went Nostradamus or Eye II Eye or St Anger. They're not great albums by any means, they're no Diary or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath but I'll take them over Forbidden or TYR anytime.
2 favs: Diary and Blizzard
2 least favs: Under Cover and Down to Earth
WIld card: Ozzmosis (love that record!) and Speak of the Devil (no Iommi but it's the best Live album featuring only Sabbath songs imo).
Favorites:
1. Diary Of A Madman
2. Blizzard Of Ozz
Least Favorite:
1. Ultimate Sin
2. Ordinary Man
Wild Card: Ozmosis
Hi Pete and Simon and Steven great fun with you as always,I had a few lps from Ozzy but when cd came out I never got around to getting them on cd
1. Ultimate Sin
2. Blizzard Of Ozz
3. Bark At The Moon
4. Diary Of A Madman
5. No More Tears
6. Black Rain
7. No Rest For The Wicked
8. Down To Earth
9. Ozzmosis
10. Patient #9
11. Scream
12. Under Cover
13. Ordinary Man
If you could combine the best songs from Blizzard of Oz with the best songs from Diary of a Madman, you would quite possibly have the best metal album of the 80s.
absolutly
We have the technology. We can rebuild them.
Jake's playing on TUS is waaaaay better than Bark (aside from the TT of course).
Favorite: Blizzard Of Ozz, Bark At The Moon
Least favorite: Everything after 2001
Wild Card: Tribute, The Ultimate Sin, Speak Of the Devil
Looking forward to this. I checked out of solo Ozzy after Bark At The Moon, so will be interested to see where, or If, I should jump back in
I don't think anything tops the all-too-brief Randy Rhoads era but I have to say I do like No More Tears, Ordinary Man & Patient Number 9 quite a bit.
For me Bark at the moon and Blizzard. Ultimate Sin would be my wildcard. Tribute is an essential live album.
My Jekyll Doesn’t Hide from Ozzmosis is an incredible tune and Zakk is on fire. Totally unique tune and one of Ozzys best!
As ever very entertaining as I am Ranking Ozzy's solo albums myself next month so I won't say my picks but what I will say they remarkably similar
1. Diary of a Madman
2. Blizzard of Ozz
...
6. No More Tears
7. Ozzmosis
WC: Speak of the Devil
I LOVE the first three albums. But everything after that, I can take or leave
Maybe this favorite vs. best thing would make a good discussion topic for Pete and Martin Popoff.
its been done
Great show !
My top three Ozzy solo albums...
1.Diary of a Madman
2. Blizzard of Oz
3. No Rest for the Wicked
My favorite song is Diary of a Madman.
Sadly Iain, I don't like Queensryche. Go on, judge me!
Give me the first three albums, some of Ultimate Sin, and the songs Miracle Man and No More Tears. That's all the solo Ozzy I need. 😄
Coming in late. Had a busy Father’s Day weekend. The beer I’m having now is out of South Carolina. It’s a Doppelbock called Low & Slow 8.2%ABV. 🍻
Favorite Ozzy albums are
#1- DIARY OF A MADMAN
#2- BLIZZARD OF OZZ
2 fantastic albums. Ozzy sounds great, the songs, are great and the guitars, oh my,! Randy is just simply amazing. Shame we lost him so young!
Least favorites
#1-UNDER COVER (what a 💩) no use for it
#2- Patient #9
Now I must say I agree with Simon on Ordinary Man. I do kinda like this album. It’s not early days Ozzy no, but with what all he had been going through a lot of these songs kinda tell his story. Simon and myself might be the only 2 people that like it and that’s fine. We’ll crank it and drink beer together. 👍🏻
Great show as always and hope you had a great Father’s Day weekend.
My favorite Ozzy albums would be No rest for the wicked and Blizzard of Ozz
My least favorites Black Rain , Down to Earth
My Wild card would be Ozzmosis. I love Tomorrow.
Great show, Simons wild card was an awesome segment.
1. Diary of a Madman
2. Bark at the Moon
3. Blizzard of Ozz
4. The Ultimate Sin
Not a fan of any of the other solo records after those.
But what a first two.🎶
I commented before Pete's wild card. 'Patient Number 9'. Check.
Most favorite:
1. Diary of A Madman
2. The Ultimate Sin
Least Favorite:
1. Ordinary Man
2. Scream
Wildcard:
Ozzmosis
2 Favorites: Bark at the Moon, Blizzard of Ozz
Least favorites: everything after Ozzmosis
1. Bark at the Moon
2. Blizzard of Ozz
3. Diary of a Madman
4. The Ultimate Sin
5. No More Tears/No Rest for the Wicked
The songs could have been better on The Ultimate Sin too.
Bottom 2 = Scream & Down To Earth
The 2 albums I never go back to if I'm in the mood for a bit of Ozzy...
@larryfleetwood8675 those first three albums were amazing.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 I agree, Ozzy only has 3 good albums and even they don't compete with Sabbath's best.
This was so good i've watched it twice. (so far)
My favourite Ozzy album changes between No More Tears, No Rest for the Wicked, and The Ultimate Sin. Which of the 3 is my favourite depends on how I fell that day. If I had to choose one, then I'd probably go with No Rest.
Bob Daisley stopped writing for ozzy after No More Tears..... That's why most of them after that are easily forgettable
I don't know why people don't like OZZMOSIS much. I think it's fantastic and hugely memorable.
@@scottthompson4193 love Ozmosis! A great record! Geezer bumps on bass. Tomorrow is a good example of it.
1. No Rest for the Wicked
2. Blizzard of Ozz
3. Bark at the Moon
4. Diary of a Madman
5. Ultimate Sin
(top 5)
I can still listen to Shot in The Dark and get goosebumps from that song.
Favorites: Down to Earth, Diary
Least: Ordinary Man, Patient No. 9
Wild Card: Ultimate Sin
No Rest For The Wicked is my favorite.
Agree 100 % with Pete on the song diary of a madman
FAVORITES
1. The Ultimate Sin
2. Blizzard of Ozz
LEAST FAVORITES
1. Down to Earth
2. Ordinary Man
WILD CARD
Ozzmosis
Huey Lewis and John Mellencamp rankers..would be👏👍🏽
Ozzy is a great artist for this format - I feel he was very, very lucky to find Randy after being kicked out of Sabbath.
Top Two: No More Tears & Scream
Bottom Two: Ordinary Man & Patient Number Nine
Wildcard: No Rest For The Wicked
I love Diary of a Madman & Blizzard of Ozz, but Diary wins. I’ll admit after Randy was killed my interest in Ozzy solo was lost and my tastes were changing, so I did not follow him much after Bark at the Moon
Please listen to your Talk of the Devil vinyl Simon! Please! It deserves to be heard! Brad Gillis' guitar tone alone is worth the time and if you do take the time to spin it, play it LOUD! Trust me when I say you'll be glad you did. Here's my two cents.
My two favorites:
1) Diary of a Madman
2) Blizzard of Ozz
My two least favs:
1) Black Rain
2) Scream
My Wild Card:
Speak of the Devil (until the new remix of Live Evil came out, this album blew Sabbath out of the water! IMHO)
Finally getting round to this a little late, as not long back from Lifesigns gig at Ivory Black's- and worthy of being touted as best UK prog band going. Hopefully plenty on here caught them and have picked up the new live in Netherlands CD. They are stupendous and worthy of much bigger audiences
This task was relatively straight forward.
I haven't heard any albums after Ozzmosis and it sounds like that was a good decision.
literally had hazy little thing when I was in boston two weeks ago - very good!
January 29 2024 - congratulations to Simon who is now a proud Grandfather. Wow!
I'm with Pete, seen that Blizzard of Oz tour & the follow up Diary are the best. Love Bark, the ultimate sin, no more tears. Ozzmosis, an underrated album.
I agree, OZZMOSIS is a fantastic album, so memorable. I think some people will listen to an album once, then judge it, and never listen to it again.
Steven,I find your voice very soothing for some reason.Maybe because you sound very much like Fish.
Maybe I should start an ASMR channel? Or a Marillion tribute act??!! Thanks for watching!
