finally a bassist who treats this as an instrument on its own! proper technique and great sound for this kind of music. exactly what the ubass does so great! lovely music too!
I am a bluegrass banjo picker, part time bass player that recently bought a Kala UBass. What a surprise, this little monster is really something. The stand up and guitar bass on going on the auction block. The traditionalists give you more dirty looks that should be legal but can't argue with the sound. Well done Kala, if you made an amp this light you would have the best of both worlds.
I'm not a bluegrass fan, but I actually liked the sound of your group! LOVE THE U-BASS! This would be an excellent upgrade for my current back-breaking neck-diving electric bass that I play at church. I'm trying one of these out tomorrow!
Finally, a good use for those rubber stringed things! Sounds perfect for that genre of music, and a lot easier to deal with than an upright. Great job!
good stuff. been contemplating a kala ubass and wondered how it might fit with traditional Hawaiian music...since bluegrass is pretty similiar I think I'm sold...Now waiting on my tax returns to pick up my new tow..LOL.
I love bluegrass because in my opinion it’s what REAL country music is supposed to be. The entire group sounds awesome 😎! Also, that U bass really sounds great in the mix. Also, Every Paul McCartney Beatles fan needs to get one of these because it sounds exactly like my Hofner 500/1 Beatle bass for a fraction of the price! The Hofner is a short scale bass already but this is even smaller and i’ll bet easier to play and transport to gigs. I definitely gotta get one now!
To be fair, I've just started playing with a borrowed electro-acoustic shortscale (30") bass, and although if I'm playing alone it sounds reasonably loud to me, my son's electro-acoustic guitar drowns it out when playing together both unplugged. This bluegrass sounds fantastic. :)
My first youtube comment/question ever! Great sounding, like upright bass! I want to get my 12 yr old granddaughter exact sound Kala that you are playing. What is the current Kala model/wood/strings config to compare to? She currently plays Ibanez Mikro, but complains of weight on shoulder. Love that sound and your style!
