We lived in SA in the 1970's when garratts still in regular use - to see ( and hear ) them at full chat on main line from Capetown to Rhodesia was something else

These Locomotives were in service from 1964 to 1968.

Travelled from Cape Town to Broken Hill a few times and from Joburgh to Wankie / Bulawayo / Salisbury in the 1960,s all behinded Garratts
