Can i use a LAN CABLE (8pin) to connect MIC to TRX instead of the official cable that was broken?

    Hi Jarrad
Interesting first part review of the 817 speech compressor. Any idea when you might release part two as I am holding back on getting one until I see what you have to say.
    Regards

Dear Stephen; I must admit to getting derailed with family and work of late. I definitely think its a fantastic tool to have, but the last analysis I performed with my SDR Play did show it was capable of well and truly overdriving the radio. That said, when you’re ‘in the noise’ and can’t be heard, it doesn’t matter if your IMD performance is only -15dB single tone rather than say -25. In summary, I wouldn’t hold off; operating portable it is every bit as powerful as adding an amplifier and doesn’t contribute anywhere near the weight to a back pack. 73, Jarrad VK3BL

Thanks for the detailed review ... but please lose the totally unnecessary background music.

Everyone raved about these so I purchased one, Sounds like ass when on air.
3 people have checked it and gone throught the calibration several times, still sounds like ass.
    Supplier wont answer emails ......

I'll give a secret away from the next video - you have to have your mic gain in the menu set to around 10 (the default is 50) otherwise they will completely overdrive the radio.
This is "ok" if you need to make a contact as you do end up getting a few more decibels more, but the IMD products are disgraceful, and anybody close by will tell you that you sound truly awful.
On the other hand, with the gain set to 10, you still consistently reach the same peak power levels, without dragging the finals deep into Class C.
Of course, this varies by voice and a few other factors, hence the 'delay' in releasing the full review. But for now, try setting the SSB Mic gain to 10, and I bet you will fair better. There will still be audible distortion - thats what a compressor does - but the higher average power levels will increase readability.
