Thanks chap. Lots of useful info. As it happens, I took all the bark off the first walking staff I made, back when I popped it in the drying cabinet (aka the boiler cupboard...). Although it's too late for me this time, it's good to know for next time.

Hello, I use braided rope for the lanyard as I found a supplier that has a very soft variant.I have avoided leather due to the fact my sticks are used in the most harshest of conditions and leather gets stiff and eventually rot's leading to it cutting into your wrists over time. Thanks for watching, Andy.
@@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561 thank you! I am guessing your rope is nylon? I have been searching on amazon for soft rope and I see nylon appears to be soft. Polypropylene a seems to be rougher. Do you happen to know what your material is, or if it’s available on Amazon? I appreciate the help. I make hiking sticks and have used paracord, leather, or jute for the lanyard thanks!

Thank you for posting this . I've just bought a stripped hazel walking stick and wanted to know how it's made.

Thank you, good information! What are your lanyards made of, I couldn’t tell if they are leather or a braided rope. Thanks

Drying with the bark on reduces the cracking.
Hi, that's a good point. Thanks for watching, Andy.
i always leave the bark on for exactly that reason, reduces the cracking
How much for your sticks
Hi,my sticks are £22 to £25 for a basic model with postage on top..Custom is by negotiation of requirements required by customer. Many thanks, Andy.
Hello...what clear coat did u use to polish your walking stick???
Sorry cant stand walking sticks with varnish on too shiny
Hi, yeah, I have found varnish at the moment has gone out of fashion, and customers are asking for a oil finish more often now.
