Unfortunately, the majority of the public do not realize the work, effort, skill and tools that goes into the process of making a simple hiking stick. All things considered..........they are not so simple! This video gives an idea of what is really involved. You have my sympathies! Money is just proof of work. You work 40 hours, get payed, there is your proof of work, no matter what you do. You should charge more for your work. I believe I have said this before and I`ll say it again..........do not sell yourself cheap! Glad to see you`ve had a shave. All the best!

Hi Dusty, admire your sanding set up. You are a craftsman, don't let anyone tell you anything else. Love the fork thing. Everything is more commercialised nowadays with big business showing off their latest products, if you go with that in mind exhibitions and shows can be worthwhile but I tend to give them a miss nowadays.

I use a rotary file in a Dremel for things like this. It is much easier and faster and saves from having to deep clean your file from copper loadup.

Thanks for the tips. I do something similar with copper tube, but I let the copper a little longer and then hammer it laterally and turning it all the time to round it over the wood tip, so the copper is closed over the wood tip … it takes a 15 minutes continuous hammering and turning but gives a good result … at the end I seal it with a little C.A glue

Ive just cut down some hawthorn because my neighbour wants some sunlight. The trees were close and all tangled together so one younger hawthorn has grown straight upward and should make a lovely stick.

I have a dead fall on my property that fell 3 years ago in our last hurricane Ida. I've milled up some of it for knife handles and man ! Is it pretty. Salted live oak and I'd like to mill some longer pieces up for walking sticks... but the grain is very twisted and the only way I have to mill it is by hand. So it may not be possible.?

Oh my goodness gracious! Clapper ticks in your crevice. I can`t think of anything worse but I suppose you shaved your nether regions in preparation for this misadventure. Please extol my congratulations to your beloved for being so brave. You always make me laugh. Brilliant vid!
