Mines just started doing it, I usually put 10w-30 mobile 1 full synthetic in my 2000 miata, this time i had 4 quarts of NAPA house brand 10w-30 sae basic ass motor oil just sitting in my garage, so i was like what the hell... fast forward to now when i went to drive it for the first time a few weeks later... ticking like hell, loud, tick increases with engine speed, i don't think it likes that shitty oil, i'm gonna have to replace it with mobile 1 in the next few days lol.
@@Ezyy2005 I have a 97 na it was just doing this I added about a quart of oil and took it for a 2 minutes drive and it was fixed just check your oil and make sure it’s clearly on the dipstick with the car off and on even ground I was very scared at first too but added about 10$ in oil and it fixed itself
@@finnsstuffs also I’ve been doing this for about three oil changes and nothing really happened to my engine the only thing that I can really notice is the lifters start ticking again in about 3000 miles
@@that_1guy21 Overfilling is going to cook your seals man, just because it reduces lifter tick noise doesn’t mean it’s doing anything to aid the problem or prolong your engines life, maybe just choose a thicker oil instead of overfilling
@@budgetdrift6403 it was still just lifter tick? My 93 yatta sounds like this at times and it's sketching me out to the point where I'm looking at my options for a motor lol
what a relief my mx5 is having the same issue i guess it’s just my oil i was worried it was rod knock 🙏🏽
oil change and needs lucas oil additive. Works out great!
Same thing with mine cleaned my lifters and put it back in now just doing a timing belt job.
Miata owners would know lol
This is lifter tick
Hey man I have This EXACT sounds what ended up being the fix?
ams engine flush and 7k rpm
Lifter tick buddy
the problem was oil scarce! went away when oil was topped off
Christian Atwood like 5 mins
Chris Kingston no sold it at 225k miles. Drove like a dream
Topped it off or did a complete oil change?

must be burning oil
Why is the air intake right infront of the headers
"cold" air intake
Do u have them im curious
I put 4 quarts of oil in my car and it made that noise but I put a little more it stopped ticking
4qt is more than the car takes, you’ve overfilled it. You should probably drain it and fill the correct amount before it causes catastrophic damage
1.6 takes 3.6L to be at max level and i believe the 1.8 takes 3.8L, but not sure on the last one.
@@finnsstuffs I have a 1.8 not 1.6 so my engine is a little bigger also on my user manual, it says to use 4 quarts so 🤷♂️

That I’m positive is rod knock. I’d replace the bearings
Nope just lifter tick. Changed the oil and it went away
