Join Curatorial Co-ordinator Dan as he carefully opens up an Edwardian box to reveal an innovative piece of early photographic processing equipment.
This daylight enlarger was used to turn negatives into photographic prints. Listen in as Dan demonstrates how the equipment would have worked - carefully clipping the metal struts in place, twisting delicate knobs and unfolding the leather bellows to create an important light-tight seal.

Babe wake up, new asmr at the museum just dropped
Dan has a great voice for ASMR. Please feature him in future videos! 💜🎙️
Hasn't he just , imagine going shopping in Tesco's with him I would be asleep in the trolley 😊
This would have been such an innovation and so convenient for the time. It would be great to see advertisements for it, as well. All the usual time and space saving conveniences touted for the "modern" photographer.
History & ASMR just go hand in hand!!! So interesting and relaxing!
For such an old and obsolete object, I am impressed at how neatly and intuitively it is designed. I love that it folds up into itself and seems like I could set it up without my instruction. How neat!
It's not really obsolete, though. So long as it's light-tight, that enlarger would still work well today.
@@willhousedont want to start an arguement mein freund but respectfully that ist nicht the reason they said obselete den probably meant as in we haben better products Morgen
The craftsmanship gone into this apparatus is stunning. Thank you for putting the same amount of love into this video ❤
What an intricately designed object. This not only is relaxing, it's also very interesting.
I adore this ASMR series!

I’m really curious as to how you get into this line of work. Id love to do this
At 9:40 is that a piece of dust or a small bug on the left side?
I noticed that there’s no pressure plate for the negative. Was this only used for glass plate negatives?
6:11 wow
I wonder if in a 100+ years, someone will be packing up a tamagotchi gently as an antique.
The future is here: collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O37315/tamagotchi-video-game-yokoi-akihiro/
@@vamuseum haha I feel old, but you have made my day. I am glad to see the tamagotchi being given the respect it deserves. Thank you VA museum.
I'm pleased to that men also work at the V&A. I thought it was ladies only.
It looks brand new lol
It looks quite fragile.
Imagine the things we could create or skills we'd learn if we weren't nose deep scrolling on social media and attached to the convenience of modern electronics.
