    I think one of the most important things I've learned from you is that preciousness is the devil! Also, your intermittent/random postings make my heart jump more than the regular notifications I receive. You're just clever in every way 😎👌🏽

    Thank you, Jane! I’m not a painter, I work in music and sound design. Your videos are great for learning creative processes to use in my own work, and I just got a ton of ideas from this one. Really appreciate you documenting your practice here.

      Reminds me of Paul McCartney; how he used to gain inspiration for his music from art. He got away from music to get the creative juices flowing. Love your perspective, glad you got inspired!! Jane is truly so awesome, she makes my heart skip a beat, I think I've watched her every video :)

      I love how the arts intertwine; art with music, music with literature, literature with theater, theater with dance, dance with music ... and around again.

    Love this method. I’ll use when I get stuck and need to do something to produce materials but, also focus with limited palette. Also great idea for working with students because end result would be cohesive. Thank you!!!

    Wow, I just discovered your work & channel, & I really need to pay it high respects. First of all, your tutorials are super clear, super well-explicated (I love that you show/describe exactly what tools you’re using at every point, explain why you choose particular pigments)… Each video is also on a particular subject or issue or technique that is straight forward & poignant, but also isn’t necessarily the same very basic stuff I see on every beginner’s acrylic painting channel- subjects that get me thinking & inspire me to try new approaches, exercises, techniques, & media; I feel like you just approach your channel in a much more artistic, less cookie-cutter, but still first & foremost informative way that really is engaging to watch & is providing me with a lot of useful ideas very concisely.
    But I’m also just very struck by your artistic sensibilities! Your feel for shapes is great- whenever you’re working in these kinds of abstract/abstract expressionist blocks/blobs/layers of color, you intuit composition so nicely, the shapes are very lively & spontaneous, but also have great balance, great design. I also love your color sense & it very much resonates with my own taste. In the previous video I watched, you were layering quin gold (a personal favorite) with green gold & those played magnificently off each other, even just in a brief demonstration. Here, those moody, highly saturated, but still subtle crimson colors fading to black are so elegant, & contrast beautifully with the yellow ochre- just very striking, bold combinations that really stand out to me. I also think it’s really cool that you experiment with so many different tools & media (I’ve been trying to get a grasp on Richter’s squeegee method myself recently, & am familiar with catalyst wedges from using them in pouring, so it was cool to see those pop up- I’ve been loving all the expressionistic textural effects you can get by introducing paint via other means besides brush bristles).
    I’ll definitely be looking up more of your actual finished work after watching a few of these, & I look forward to watching more of your tutorials & seeing how much I can get out of them! They’re dense with ideas & inspiration, but they’re short enough that I don’t come out of them feeling like “Oh boy, I’m going to have to go through that hour long video 5 more times before it all sinks in” like with some tutorials/lessons. So really, from the editing to the teaching itself, amazing work condensing so much into just a few minutes. And very impressed with what I’ve seen of your work so far!

    Can you compare the cold wax squeegees with the catalyst spreaders? Which to buy for what medium? Thank you!

    • @jdaviesVT
      @jdaviesVT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try them both. Really, to me they only differ in the hand-feel, or flexibility. It's a personal choice, which you use for what. Not necessarily and either /or.
