I’d say that I relate to you struggling with art but honestly I just draw frogs when idk what I’m doing and instantly go YES THIS IS ART THIS IS WHAT IM DOING YES FROG
The way you conceptualize these sorts of things is absolutely brilliant. The day I produce a finished piece at the level of your sketchbook work, I think I may cry. 😭😂
Thank you for going through this 'ramble' as you call it. It's helpful, at least to me, to hear that someone who's art I quite love to look at, can so easily admit that sometimes things just aren't there in your head...that inspiration isn't always at hand. I, for one, feel that it not only makes you more 'human' (haha), but lets me feel less stressed when I just look at whatever I'm working on and having nothing to pull from. Thank you for sharing with us so freely.
love how calm her voice is, and how she makes u feel like yr multiple ppl just hanging out/having fun at her place etc. kinda makes u feel a bit less lonely lol so i guess thank u? ur genuinely such a sweet human being
your videos are my favourite to draw to. I'm only drawing for fun and myself and your voice and your art and your thoughts always make me feel calm and relaxed!
I don't know why. but that last small sketch is just *chef's kiss* gorgeous! Maybe it's because of its simplicity? I just really love the starkness of the blues shadows against the paper white skin and orange background. I really enjoyed the video, as always!
Thank you, your thoughts really made me realise that my art identity is totally immersed in the realm of social media. I can't remember the last time I created art in my real world environment and had my art in an exhibition. I often feel like an imposter too. Wise words.
I watch this video a lot lately, as I’m experimenting with gouache and in my sketchbook, I’m not at home with gouache as much as I am with watercolor. I finally learned what water control I have with that and I’m producing some decent results and pieces. Why I want to play with gouache is beyond me! Lol!
This is a very comforting type of video. Love how casual the sketches are as well as your contemplation of making art. Really does feel like we are sitting in your studio with you.
This sort of sketchbook romp is so lovely, seeing people experiment and create stuff even when it doesn't quite look like what you'd wanted. It's so intimate and nice :) And your gouache painting is a joy to watch.
Wow, I love that you can fill up a sketchbook so fast! It's taken me over a year for some of mine! Working towards filling them up a bit faster, though :D I loved the first painting you did, but I also really enjoyed seeing how you sketched out that last face whilst holding the pen as if it was a brush. That was oddly satisfying to watch. Congrats to the winners!
I have a daughter and she LOVES your videos sm. She makes art too and i am the only one in the family who really supports her. I listened to this video of yours and i absolutely get why she loves you❤
Your self-consciousness is such a relief to me. I connect to that so much. Your artwork is so beautiful and inspiring to me though, and I love your videos and find your voice so calming.
I find that I too am going through the “in between phase” and the constant noise of the internet! Yes the ebbs and flows are real and we compare ourselves to others and our previous art selves. I am 100% in the feels as you feel. I am exceptionally grateful for your transparency!
Watching you work is inspirational for me. Ive newly discovered how much I love painting. Watching you work is helping me with my own practice and development. Thank you
Wow. I’ve never related to an art youtuber like you. The part where you said you were in a satisfying place with your painting and then you got back into a sketching/comics to like idk do different stuff besides painting. Then you said you tried getting back into painting but the vibe wasn’t there and you’re lost with your art but at the same time you know you’re going to reconnect. I’m so glad a pro youtuber I watch goes through the same struggles as me, an amateur. I’m trying to paint and I really thought I was getting better, sure my stuff was crap but I was so proud. Then I really got into sketching, I wanted to be good at both. I liked sketching at first but then it’s like I just got in this big art block. I could sketch it’s just my vibe wasn’t the same. Nothing was coming out how I wanted it to, but slowly I got better and then I decided to paint since I was “healed”. After a long time of not painting it’s like I was back to square one, nothing came out like I envisioned. I just wanted to give up, but just as you said I still know I’m going to reconnect. You help me in these situations. You’re a really big inspiration. :)
i love videos like this because this kind of workflow is what i love most in my own practice - exploring, playing, finding new solutions and new things i enjoy. and joy is just the most important thing to make good art imo
I really loved the botanical aspect of these sketches! Whenever I just want to doodle or feel less sure of what to paint, plants always just show up in my art. (: Love these! Also -- what colors would you recommend people to start with for these ShinHan paints?
I mean...these types of videos certainly don’t bother me...in fact I really like them. It was great just sitting down with a nice cup of tea to sketch and paint along with you! But of course you should do whatever brings you joy in your videos. Have a relaxing day :) Sending positive energy your way! uwu
How you verbalized that art struggle is how I’ve been feeling for the last couple years and I’m only recently realizing why I love to create so much and that I love the puzzle of new pieces and new materials way more sometimes than the finished work. For a while I equated my own worth with that of my art and I had to fight not to stay in that mindset. So thank you for this ❤️
I loved your rendering of the green haired person. I am so taken with the way a painting keeps changing as you progress. It gives me courage to just go with the flow. I also us3 gouache as I always paint in my sketchbooks and that paper usually doesn’t tolerate watercolour. I have books of good watercolour paper but somehow I don’t feel my art is good enough to put there. Silly, as only I see my art and I should be okay with that, but I guess it’s a human gene thing....but I love your courageousness.
What really stresses me out is trying to make a final painting. It's first a lot of effort to try and find the right high quality paper, having the right materials to do it with, and also the space and time for it. It's also the pressure of getting it to look perfect and professional to either sell or have in a portfolio. I always get intimidated by it because I'm clumsy and I'm scared of ruining it. That's why i have soo many experimental sketches instead of final pieces because I can do whatever I want with them without worrying. Sometimes, I prefer my messy rough pieces compared to my perfected paintings. So, there is not always an answer 😂
I love the "let's work on the sketchbook" video idea. Most of the things I'm proud of working on started as going wild on my sketchbook, no pressure and having fun. So I love the idea of being a part of your process too and the things that come to mind while one works. So I for one would like to see more of it. The work was relaxed and fluid, just the way I work as well
i love the way you describe your thought process about this video. especially when you said it's like we're all hanging out together and painting. this is exactly how it feels. i love having this video play while i'm painting in my own sketchbook. thank you for creating that lovely atmosphere!
I absolutely appreciate how you share your thoughts and feelings, especially about the internet and online art as a whole. It’s super refreshing to find that level of honesty combined with such wonderful work. Thank you for sharing what you do!!
I feel like that pen you're using in the video is the brand Kuretake's Bimoji felt tip pen (Kuretake is a japanese brand with good ink pens and brushes etc.)
@@Kamoblue no worries, but if i were you I'd take it with a grain of salt because i am not entirely sure if it is the correct one. I assumed it is because i have one and the one In the video is similar to it
Shin han pass is my favourite gouache I've tried to date honestly (although I've only really tried daler rowney designers and arteza, which I much prefer to the daler rowney gouache). I feel like it is a bit more transparent, but I tend to use markers to do the base layer for a sketch so that when I use gouache I've already got the base tones and it feels less transparent! But, with it being a hybrid, when watered down it tends to feel a lot less 'cloudy' than other gouache, at least to me. So you could use it like watercolour! It's always so nice hearing you talk and seeing you work!
Thank you for sharing your process and it's amazing to hear your thoughts as I've been lately in exact same situation, when I can't figure out what kind of art I want to make. The feeling of being lost and the pressure to keep up with other creative people can be so overwhelming.
I'm definitely interested in the review! I just got my very first, very cheap set of gouache and I'm interested to know more about different brands and technique etc.
I've been a downward spiral with art for a while now (health issues dont help with the creative process...) So I'm glad to always hear your rambling videos and seeing your processes gives me some hope of getting things on paper a bit more some day.
These types of videos are very interesting to me! I feel as if I'm learning something new about the facial anatomy. This is sooo good because it is something I've been struggling with an have been wanting to get a clear understanding of for quite some time now. Thank you arlee!!❤😌
I love hearing the way you talk about art. I find that I get impatient and end up drawing a lot of details before I even completely finishing the overall form. And I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one who feels at a loss as to what direction I want to take my art. I sometimes look at my art and feel as if it doesn't look like it's mine...? Like, I feel that if I were someone else looking at it, I wouldn't be able to tell my work apart from other artists. Overall, I enjoy listening to your thoughts on art. Including both the technical aspects and just your personal feelings about art. And I just wanna thank you again for the giveaway watercolors. I've been working with them a lot recently and find that it's a medium I can genuinely play around with and hopefully experiment with my art
i love this kind of rambly sketchbook video! it's great to put on while i work on something of my own; it feels like hanging out with a friend while we do our own work and talk. and your voice is so soothing and nice to listen to, it's like all my stress about writing papers and meeting deadlines is washing away. you definitely should make more videos like this if you want to!
Oh yes, I totally relate when you say that doing so many portraits of the head alone is a risk because then when I try to do the all body I feel so lost among all those shapes! 😬 practice, practice!! 😄 and thank you for the beautiful video, your voice is so relaxing and same watching you painting 🌷
A tip i got from a friend for painting with acrylics or gouache in sketchbooks is to gesso the pages. You need to prime/gesso the pages! it makes everything go smoother and blend more!
I really enjoyed this chill relaxed style video, I love watching you doodle not too seriously !! those two sketches at the end are my faves, would love to see more vids like this!!
your videos are so cathartic! I've had a kind of love hate relationship with my art these last few years... but i've been trying to get back on the horse recently, and your channel has made me fall in love with art all over again and want to genuinely improve! keep doing your thang!!
I really liked both of the wip points where the shading on the face was pale. Also relate to the feeling that everyone else is making way more art than I do because there are so many people sharing thier pieces
i honestly loved this video and i wouldnt mind seeing more of them, bc it helps to see that an artist i really admire has their off days and isnt prefect either. i always find myself looking at other artist and putting myself down for not being as good as them , so this type of video honestly helped me realize to not be so judgemental of myself
i love watching ur videos and just drawing and doing my own thing while listening to u talk. i can’t describe how soothing it is. so glad i found ur chanel💕
These types of videos are really nice. It would also be cool to see the difference in this paint compare to watercolor and gouache. Just love your content.
I have the Mission White Class gouache/watercolour hybrid set and I kind of struggle with them. I honestly haven't used gouache much at all and am relatively new to watercolour, but I think I have a decent grasp of it. I recently got the Himi gouache and have been playing with those instead, like you mentioned in your video reviewing that set, I don't have to worry about wasting paint like with the white class as they were significantly more expensive, despite receiving them as a gift. I need to revisit them when I understand the medium better, and it excites me that I have them to "work up to" sort to speak.
I like watching random sketches, even is they are not too successful, viewers will only see them for a brief moment and I know how we as artists tend to overanalize our drawings and sometimes we can be too harsh on our art. When viewers are going to be way more forgiving and they will also have a benefit of a fresh eye. By the way! I would Love to see your review of Shinhan Pass paints. My sister recently ordered them from Jackson's too.
i can definitely understand and relate to all your worries on art itself. most of the times, i can say im pretty hard on myself when it comes to the process and outcome of my pieces. theres are times where i could just instantly lose my inspirations or will to draw because i am not satisfied with it and how im a completely perfectionist bc i have my own standards. sorry for rambling too hahaha but it's my first time watching your video and i love it! i truly admire how you can freely sketch so well too!
at the first flip of your sketchbook, i like how your sketches are so loose and like you draw whatever you like. sometimes i get really pressured on what to draw sometimes, mostly when i feel uninspired. i know lots of people are saying that don't wait for that inspiration to come so i just draw and draw, but there are days that are really empty. I wish i could let myself loose sometimes
Oh my god this video just gave me a peaceful feeling I really like it and I like your art as well 🌱🤍 maybe I found it peaceful because of your calm voice 🧘🏼♀️🤣
You've verbalized exactly how I've been feeling about my art lately! I don't quite know what direction to take my art and I feel like I'm just buffering--while feeling pressured because I feel like I have to be constantly producing and posting artwork.
Your art is amazing and beautiful...I just love sitting and doing art and not think about the process. Also you are the reason I bought the 60 color set of Arteza gouache and I can't wait to try them. I really love their half pan watercolors so hopefully these are good.
Thank you. I have recently finished a piece that made me completely doubt my abilities and motivations and listening to your 'rant' helped so much. To see your sketching also made me feel so good, its gorgeous and flowy but also i use my lines similarly and thought that i was so messy! it turns out that's normal! your art is amazing and thanks for showing us what it looks like when you are feeling 'lost' its so helpful
your videos are so calming and inspirational you really made my day. I'm in a really stressful period of my life rn and I felt like loosing myself, but your video healed me in some kind of way. Thanks so much
thank you so much for this video!! listening to you talk about these topics really helped me realize where i am also struggling, but now I know where I need to work on so thanks! :’)
Thank you for the rant I needed it. Don’t feel bad about being human, we all seek validation that we can probably give ourselves. because We are only human:) so don’t stop talking about it because it’s a part of the process.
I love this gouache. Yes, James Gurney uses this gouache from TH-cam channel Gurney Journey. He uses it in his sketchbooks. I bought this gouache a year ago and decided to put it in a deep well palette and love how easily it reactivates. In my opinion it is more gouache than watercolor. It is very opaque.
I adore the way you capture such emotion and expression in you faces and I would love to see more of these sketchy paint along videos as I find them really calming to doodle along with much love xx 🍄🥔❤️😊
Glad you found out about the ShinHan PASS paints they are fantastic and great price too! (at least where i live) Although have to warn you the light fastness in my experience is really really bad so definitely not something you would want to use for originals sale.
Ooooh I love all your shapes and brushstrokes! I've never ever tried gouache, but after watching a few of your videos, I'm very tempted to give it a go! Now the age-old question of which paints to buy...lol
I love this video and the raw feeling of creating and expressing that you exhibit. Also curious as to what kind of easel that is, that you're working with on the table?
Loved the sketches and the paintings in this video! The paint was thick and the colors were more saturated than what you do usually, really liked your experimenting
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your experiences with how you connect to your art. When you said that you have been having a hard time really figuring out why you want to create art right now, it kind of hit me that there may be a point where I can no longer find inspiration. I hope that you can find a way to make it fun and just for you again.
Did you figure out what type of felt tip brush pen you are sketching with at 1:19? It may be the Bimoji™ Fude Brush Pen sold at Michaels and other places. Is it an extra fine tip? Is it refillable? Thanks.
I just adore your work, and I love the personal and warm feeling that I get through your videos :’))) makes me feel all warm and fuzzy haha, keep it up !
Did you use water to dilute the skin tone before you applied it? I have been looking for a paint that is thicker than watercolor, but is thin enough that you can still see the sketchy lines underneath... Beautiful work as always!
I was feeling a bit lost so I decided to take a course in Character Drawing. It was $9 and it has helped me feel more grounded by going over the basics again.

I love listening to you talk. Your voice is so relaxing (as is the music you chose) - thank you for creating such a peace-filled environment.
Wow, thank you for sharing such beautiful, deep words with us. Truly appreciated realness in this otherwise unreal world.
I don't quite know what direction to take my art and I feel like I'm just buffering--while feeling pressured because I feel like I have to be constantly producing and posting artwork.
im obsessed with the sketch
I LOVE your work, so hearing that even you struggle sometimes make me feel so much better about my own attempts!
your videos are so calming and inspirational you really made my day. I'm in a really stressful period of my life rn and I felt like loosing myself, but your video healed me in some kind of way. Thanks so much
thank you so much for this video!! listening to you talk about these topics really helped me realize where i am also struggling, but now I know where I need to work on so thanks! :’)
love the midsommar vibes these pieces give 🌱🌸
Thank you for the rant I needed it. Don’t feel bad about being human, we all seek validation that we can probably give ourselves. because
We are only human:) so don’t stop talking about it because it’s a part of the process.
I feel the same way, it's so comforting to hear someone say these things out loud. Inspiring!
I love sketching with paint its so fun
Ooooh I love all your shapes and brushstrokes! I've never ever tried gouache, but after watching a few of your videos, I'm very tempted to give it a go! Now the age-old question of which paints to buy...lol
Your voice is just so relaxing to listen to and just the music and the art? Everything is just so tranquil
I love this video and the raw feeling of creating and expressing that you exhibit. Also curious as to what kind of easel that is, that you're working with on the table?
I have been watching you recently and when i saw we had the same pencil case I went Boom. Love what you do and I have learnt a lot
your style is so mesmerizing, i cant take my eyes of the work. its so sensitive, nice. you re doing great job, never stop!
Love watching you work out things in your sketchbook, thank you for sharing. And congrats to the winners.
Loved the sketches and the paintings in this video! The paint was thick and the colors were more saturated than what you do usually, really liked your experimenting
Oh hey! That brush pen is a kuretake zig brushpen!
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your experiences with how you connect to your art. When you said that you have been having a hard time really figuring out why you want to create art right now, it kind of hit me that there may be a point where I can no longer find inspiration. I hope that you can find a way to make it fun and just for you again.
This is so relaxing to watch and listen to. Your work is beautiful.
I really appreciate your videos, your sketches are so inspiring to me ❤️
Did you figure out what type of felt tip brush pen you are sketching with at 1:19? It may be the Bimoji™ Fude Brush Pen sold at Michaels and other places. Is it an extra fine tip? Is it refillable? Thanks.
Yes please!! More sketchbook fun!!
This is amazing!!! I would love to see a print of the finished gouache man! Or maybe an original on canvas!!!
I came to this channel recently and i love your content . . also, love the dragon age stickers that I keep spotting!
Everytime you upload you make my day 💙 thank you for inspiring all of us!
your art is so beautiful!
Your videos are one of the most inspiring ones on TH-cam❤️ I’ve bought my first watercolor palette 2 weeks ago thx to you!
(Sorry for my English)
I just adore your work, and I love the personal and warm feeling that I get through your videos :’))) makes me feel all warm and fuzzy haha, keep it up !
I loooove the look of these sketches you did!
Love the colors!
your work is so beautiful and what you had to say more so thank you so much for sharing this I love to hear you rambling
I’m so glad that you uploaded this video, haven’t even started it yet and already liked.
