One clear up, I live in Bowie. My work commute to DC is technically 15-18 miles door to door and it's a 45-60 minute commute during rush hour. It's 20 mins in non rush. Annapolis is 15 mins the opposite direction. Truth is the middle class of "chocolate city" DC has moved to PG county. I am a DC native.
No better value globally than PG county. No where else globally can you get a better ratio of high income jobs compared to the cost of a renovated bathroom suite.
I enjoyed the video. However, it's takes much less than one hour to drive from DC to Bowie, and the Bowie Town Centrer is not in Woodmore; it's in the Enfield Chase area. (You probably meant to say "Woomore Town Center").
There are actually quite a few places across the country like Lakeview and Wheatley Heights NY, Ladera Heights and View Park-Windsor Hills CA, Olympia Heights and Homewood-Flossmoor IL, the Best Southwest area of the Dallas area, some of the eastern suburbs of Cleveland(Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, University Heights, etc.), Southfield and parts of Harper Woods(in the Grosse Pointe SD) outside of Detroit, Randolph MA south of Boston/NE of Providence, Bloomfield and Windsor CT outside of Hartford, etc.
I live in Bowie and love it here. The one thing they have to do better at is more mid to upscale restaurants. Also, Six Flags is part of Bowie as is Mitchellville.
Hello. I'm planning to check out Bowie in a few months. What other surrounding areas similar to Bowie that I can check out as well if you don't mind me asking? Thanks
oh, and Bowie isnt technically an hr away from DC. Since Bowie is closer to Route 50, that turns into 295, it literally takes less than 30 min to get to DC (Northeast; Northwest/Southwest maybe a good 35-40 min)
Y'all should do a video on Black American flags. Black American Heritage Flag , Juneteenth Flag, Louisiana Creole flag, Gullah Geechee flag etc etc even the American flag was co- created by black american girl name Grace Wisher
Shout out to the DMV, the best area in the country! The DMV comprises of all Washington, DC, Montgomery County, MD, Prince George's County, MD, Charles County, MD, and Northern, VA!!!!
I wish y’all would stop spreading that misinformation. The D.M.V. was NEVER meant for the DC area..it was meant for the Chesapeake Bay Area/s. They lie to people as if it’s was just DC
Yep! Shout out from Charles County. However, I don't know where she got her stats on that supposingly low crime rate? And no it doesn't take an entire hour to drive from DC to Bowie. I think it's more like 15 to 20 minutes. She must have circled around the betlway before heading to Bowie.
Unfortunately as nice as Bowie seems, PG county school system is one of the worst in the state. They lack a lot of resources that the kids need. A lot of people who work in and around Maryland actually don’t live in the same city they work in. I grew up in Upper Marlboro not too far from Bowie and attended BSU. Although not the worst city, the county has definitely gone downhill over the years.
Bowie is not really the "small town with affordable living" compared to other places...its mostly one of the suburbs of DC where black professionals live.
As somebody who grew up in PG County, here's a pro-tip: Build your career in DC and build your home in Baltimore (City or County). People will kill themselves trying to prove they live in the best of the best, all while 90% of their income goes towards living expenses. Moving to Baltimore (City) was the best decision I ever made in my life. Almost 4 yrs strong, and I don't plan on ever moving back to PG again.
@dirtycommie2877: Baltimore was ranked the dirtiest city in America, and most people that move to Baltimore from the DC area are not doing well financially....facts over feelings!!!!
I live in Bowie, but it's not the same anymore. There is a lot of money here, kids are entitled and out of control, so now Bowie is starting to be like DC.
My grandmother surname is Bowie I wonder what connection my family has with the town of Bowie. She was from that area. Her father worked on the railroad.
Bowie was the first governor. And his plantation encompasses the belair and fairwood communities if not more of Bowie . So like many of us, that's the connection to the european name.
My oldest daughter has her bachelors and masters degrees from Bowie State University and is now planning to buy her first home in the area. We live in the area.
If you can, how about making a video of the Hampton Roads area of South East VA. The seven sister cities of: VA Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton and Newport News are finally (slowly) trying to get it together and work like a greater whole.
The public schools are middling at best. The students are capable but the school culture is sub par. The county tries, but loses its best educators to Montgomery County (higher pay, stronger school culture). Prince George’s high school graduation rate is in the 90% range, well above the national average, BUT near the bottom in the state; Maryland is usually in the top ten so the context is that Md is a high achievement state.
Montgomery County??? No way. We took our kids out of there because there were not up top par and there were substitute teachers at least 50 per cent of the time. Howard County has by far the best schools.
So, theres a difference between stating the facts and telling the truth. This was a well put together video, sharing facts. People who are residents and have a longstanding familiarity with the area and surrounding areas have valuable truths to share. For someone looking to relocate and take advantage of an affluent area, they want to know the whole truth which includes the facts of where Bowie and the county as a whole are lacking in comparison to other affluent neighborhoods. The truth is you still may need to look outside of Bowie/ the county for appropriate, schools, dining and shopping options which shouldn’t really be the case for an affluent area.
As a disabled army veteran and Computer engineer with family of 5. What’s a good area for me and my family? I don’t work yet but will when I arrive Inshallah!🙏🏾
Sounds like its changed a lot since I lived there and went to high school there in 1982. For PG county its a nice area. Sure beats Adelphi which turned into a shole. I lived in Adelphi in the 1970s and it was nice back then. I visited 2 years ago and its an overgrown project infested dump now.
Also Bowie is 35 mins from DC from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM during rush hr and then the time goes up. And if commuting from DC to Bowie during the rush hr it can be about an hr. During the weekend it takes 30 mins to get to DC.
I thought the same thing..lol.. I used to live in Perrywood / Upper Marlboro for 5 years and it only took an hour in rush hour or when it rains / snows..
This was a great report, but you have misinformation - most people from Bowie work in DC or VA. Bowie is much too small to offer many jobs. I've been there 25 years and what I've seen that's changed is that many low income people from DC have now moved into most of the apartments and it's greatly changed the climate of Bowie. There has also been an escalation of car jackings and car vandalism in Bowie and Upper Marlboro's chic areas so hopefully this will decline in time since there is now a curfew for young people. One last thing- Bowie is overbuilding without adding proper road expansion or retail so in a year or the roads will be absolute gridlock. In terms of healthcare, the doctors are fine there but if you have an dire emergency, you would get better treatment at Anne Arundel Med. Center. Bowie's Med Ctr is horrible.
No better value globally than PG county. No where else globally can you get a better ratio of high income jobs compared to the cost of a renovated bathroom suite.
Unfortunately the schools are some of the worst. That's the reality. Restaurants and entertainment are lacking, honestly you have to travel to DC or Annapolis for fine dinning and other entertainment.
Unfortunately that's true, there are so many opportunities to revitalize the area. They turned the National Harbor into a money grab and the BLVD is just a giant parking lot now.
Well done! I'm from Baltimore and I was in PG County. I'm in ATL now. I have a different question. Would you recommend the best trains to travel on with families ( young children )? Maybe even a private train car with enough space for like 10-15 hrs

I also wonder why 301 Hwy has so many run down looking stores. It’s like the whole strip of stores need to be revamped. It makes the area look old.
