    Thanks for this, Tom. An excellent summation of Tolkien's impetus, mode, and fundamental philosophical stance; and an excellent, for all that it is implicit, indictment of the sorts of self-interested, extrinsic "criticisms" that have been inflicted on Tolkien since the start (and are yet today).

    I never knew of his collaboration with Harrison, I'm fairly sure the copy of The Hammer and the Cross didn't feature a co-author, though it's been some years since I last read it.

    Thanks Tom. A very elegant way of connecting free will to providence, offering great insight into Tolkien's understanding of how the individual falls into God's plan.

    You should have included the question & answer segment of this lecture in this video. It's very likely that this video would have been far more interesting, in far more engaging, in being far more thorough, if you had included it.
