    i remember once our team was using make shift steel hooks to lift. I put field requisition request to purchase lifting rods, got them third party certified and load tested, trained the crew on the use and the supervisor was more than happy to use them. if i had just stopped him from not using it altogether without giving a solution, it would have never helped.

    Just watched your vid and thoroughly enjoyed both of your takes. I’m 42 and still trying to shake off the signage for signage sake mentality. Anyway I have gone to LI and follow you both now. Very fresh view and very welcome too.

    Starting the NCRQ Diploma and just turned the first page in the first workbook and hooked already.. Finding your videos online and that you have a clear way of making sensible suggestions is really helping to reinforce my decision to look forward to a fork in the road when I can change my current direction of travel.

    Hello i appreciate your conversations on the other hand would you share your insights on these current times, with Covid being around and people being told to work from home how will the health and safety sector be affected.

    • @RebrandingSafety
      @RebrandingSafety  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The health and safety sector ideally shouldn't have changed to be honest, other than the realisation that influencing skills are more important than the technical skills, COVID is just a new hazard really it influencing behaviours that is the hard bit.

    Quick question, you both mentioned at the end there about the perception of H&S professionals saying that you wear PPE the least out of everyone and the typical PPE warrior on google images is what people assume we look like as safety professionals. I know PPE is the last resort in terms of hazard management but shouldn't we be leading by example and not really worry about fitting the stereotype? I only ask this because I was brought into a growing business with a non-existent safety culture. operations are growing rapidly and with no way to separate vehicles & foot traffic, I put in place a mandatory PPE policy (high-viz) Now every time I pass by the area I wear my high-vis, even though I am there for no longer than 10 minutes I still wear it as an example to others around me. it's quite amusing because there have been a few occasions where I have forgotten to take my PPE and the guys in the yard/warehouse will cheekily ask me where is my high-viz. I feel like that is a step in the right direction for building the Health & Safety culture that we are trying to achieve, and also I am now satisfied that these guys will ensure PPE is not neglected within the teams. back to my question.. should we be caring about H&S professional stereotypes or just lead by example? and if not what are the other alternatives as this could potentially provide a "one rule for them and a different rule for us" attitude in the workplace which can lead to resistance? sorry for the long-winded comment, bloody love your work by the way :) Liam

      @RebrandingSafety  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Liam,
      Sorry it wasn't clear in the chat with Rachel and it was so long ago I cant remeber exactly what we said lol.
      However the point I belive we were trying to make was not not following the rules. But actually using PPE where it is required and not as a blanket approch.
      There is too much to go into in a comment but in short. We over use PPE and under resource affective management of the risks, culture, human factors etc etc. How many times do you have to wear a hi vis or hard hat and think do I really need to wear this etc. What that does is enforce the "health and safety gone mad" perception and make people disengage with safety. Therefore having unintentional consequences in the management of Human Factors. Long and short of it mate we have an over reliance on PPE so companies can be seen to be safe and it devalues the PPE in my opinion.
      Maybe I should do a video on this......
      Thanks for the challange though love it!!!
      Thanks for watching the content as well.

    I'm actually studying civil engineering in university right now. Apparently, HSE is included as one of our compulsory subjects and I find it very interesting since I never heard about it till now. Is it true that it's currently one of the careers that is underdemand? And do you think it's possible to get into this industry when I'm a civil engineer? I think, if I can get a certificate and training even prior becoming a civil engineer, it might not only be a bonus to my resume but also be a great skill/knowledge to have.

    • @RebrandingSafety
      @RebrandingSafety  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you join the profession with civil engineering for sure, a safety role in a civil engineering space would probably like that.
      As for under demand, yes COVID has pushed the profession into the spot light and there seems to have been a increase in demand.

      It's helps of course but I wouldn't say it was a huge priority that's a skill that could be learnt in my opinion.

    Thank you for this video! I'm now going through the NEBOSH General at the moment all self funded and it's so refreshing to hear H+S professionals with such a positive attitude towards H+S. Working for small/medium companies, they always mostly have the same attitude towards H+S and it gets so irritating.
    Any suggestions for myself on powering through the course and reaching my full potential? I'm not in a H+S job role right now (8 years in the Joinery field) and am wondering if I should be?

    • @RebrandingSafety
      @RebrandingSafety  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ashley!
      Whilst it may not feel like it now, the fact you are self funding will pay off eventually.
      It been a minute since I complete my NEBOSH gen so I can remeber much so my tips would just be general ones to be honest. Like read all the questions in the exam before you start, pick out some quick wins to build confidence and momentum!
      As for powering through the perception of our profession we just need to be the change we want to see and eventually change will happen one conversation at a time.
      Best of luck!!!

    I have an Iosh and want to go to health and safety. Can I get a job in health and safety?
    I will be doing my nebosh in time.
    Any advice would be greatful

    • @RebrandingSafety
      @RebrandingSafety  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean the IOSh course luke managing safely, they wouldn't suffice for a entry level qualification no.
      That doesn't mean you could get a job but the level 3 qualification like the NEBOSH General cert or NVQ for example are considered entry level.

    stop this work. you cant use this. this is not allowed as per the legislation. This type of approach only damages your communication with the team. we need to give them solutions. It takes alot of experience to know all the good practices and then recommending to the team. Benchmarking is very important.
