- I picked this up on eBay for a decent price. I was using an HW40ES but you know...45ES is better so I replaced the 40 with this. It's been a few months since I recorded this and the 45ES is fantastic.
The HDMI ports had failed. This seems to be a common failure point in this series. I'm not sure if it's a design thing or just that HDMI is delicate to begin with. Either way, it used to require a mainboard replacement until the HDMI chip became available. Anyway, chip replaced, projector was happy. woot. This video was edited on this projector which was kind of cool.

Nice one again Frank! I just found on the trash a PROMETHEAN PRM-45 WXGA projector with manufacture date of May 2013 with the remote that is perfectly working. Just cleaned it, because it was stacked with filth, and ordered a bare bulb for the beast. It has now 20 hours on the new lamp and it is happily working with 0 problems at all. PROMETHEAN was a manufacturer I have never heard of and it seems that it went out of business some years ago!

Oh yeah. Promethean used Sanyo chassis if I recall. Schools liked them a lot. Not a bad projector really. Is it orange? Some were made in a bright red/orange chassis.
@@FixitFrankNo, it the plane grey unit, but it is short throw. I believe it came from a foreign language private school as it was found outside in a box. Fact is that the unit had 11500 hours on the clock and the lamp was functional but very dimmed. I ordered the bare bulb and relamped the unit and it is like brand new out of the box. Now as fans and colour wheel goes, well, if it dies, it dies!
Something about people finding old good tech stuff on the street sounds adventurous and cool nice find
I used to sell a lot of these lamps LMP-H201, H202, H210 I cannot figure out why all of a sudden people stopped buying lamps for them. I have sold none in the last 6-12 months. Even my fellow lamp sellers say the same thing. Good job Frank, keep up the good work.

Great video ,I finally fixed my projector it's back to working good as new ,except for the darkness around the sides from a old dmd that's 6-7 years old loosing picture.
Great video Frank. Never had a Sony before. Mine is an Epson 5040 refurbished from Epson. I haven't checked out that DLP JVC yet. I have a new hobby, building a Lotus 7 style car from scratch, repairs are secondary. I also have an Epson 2045 that works for a little bit, then it shuts down and won't turn on again. I haven't opened it yet.

I've been searching the internet and your collection of videos for an issue where a projector (JVC X5900) shows a purple image, even after replacing the lamp. This includes the text in the Menu, and also happens if there is no HDMI cable connected. Sometimes I am able to use the projector for 10 minutes with no issues and the image looks fantastic and bright, but then turns purple again. Do you have any advice on what that could be?

Hi, unfortunately our options are very limited unless your pockets are deep and your needs are not too varied. Encompass parts is okay but $$ and limited and then there is Heartland who I would not give a penny to.
It really depends on what you need specifically. I prefer to repair the boards rather than change them. I rebuild the boards myself and then save them. I had a video on an HW50ES(the projector I use at home) where I repair the HDMI issue on this series. They use the same mainboards. when I recorded this, the chip I needed was not available but now it is.

Someone is selling a HW65 with broken horizontal and Vertical Lens Shift. According to the seller the wheels spin freely.
Is this an easy fix with a 3d Printer maybe?

Hey frank my projector I have a problem. The projector I have is a benq w1070 and I checked the fans and it’s running and I also replaced the lamp. So I think it’s the power supply but not sure. Is there any way to contact you personally?

ich habe gestern bei einem Optoma UHD380X den DLP Chip gewechselt, da ich weiße Pixelfehler hatte. Der Beamer funktionierte sonst einwandfrei.
Nachdem ich alles wieder zusammengebaut hatte, lässt sich der Beamer zwar über den Powerknopf starten, allerdings hört man keinen Lüfter und es kommt kein Bild. Die Lampe hat keinerlei Funktion. Ich habe mehrmals alle Kabel überprüft. Was könnte das noch sein? Der Beamer zeigt keinerlei Fehlermeldungen.

Hi frank love the videos. I just got a Panasonic pt-D5700. Having a lamp issue. Serviceman mode self check shows lamp 1 3hrs runtime NG off. Lamp 2 250hrs runtime ON. Panel flashes bulb 1 three times. Sometimes it won't start And I have to swap bulb positions to get it running and the lamp error may or may not move from lamp 1 to lamp 2. Any thoughts?

Probably a bad panel. After these get older the panels start to break down. Might be a failed green panel too.

Thanks for the video Frank you do excellent work! For the gentleman with the Promethean projector I have several PRM 35 projectors they are nice but my problem with those are eveyone throws a hazy picture and I've cleaned all the lenses but didn't help so any ideas I would appreciate also Frank I have the orange ones PRM 10 and 20 nice projectors also but same problems these are LCD the PRM 35 are DLP.
Its possible the DLP version have bad DMDs. Sometimes the DMD get so hot that the mirror mechanisms break loose from the backing and change the focal distance causing a blurry image. If the picture sort of looks "double" or you can focus on part of the image but not the whole thing, that is likely your problem. The LCD versions might have dust build up or possible bad polarizers but if the polarizers were bad, I'd expect you to see color blobs.

Frank don't these older Sonys have massive degradation of contrast?
Not that I can see. They look fantastic. I keep hearing people say this but I just don't see it. I'm still using this and it looks great. Same with the 40es I replaced. Maybe the older series (VW?) but these having beautiful pictures. I show the image at the end. Contrast looks great.
the most difficult sxrd I've worked on is the Mitsubishi Hc 9000 completely over complicated mess. Repair failed. Never again :)
oh man, that was a nice projector. I have not seen one in a long time. I'm also not surprised to hear it was a complicated mess since Mitsubishi loves those. Sounds like the mitsi I trashed a few weeks ago. Should have been an easy repair. Nope. Convoluted multiple issues, needed mainboard repair, ballast and power supply work. Ended up getting scrapped.

Unfortunately no. I am not familiar with many projector techs in general. It seems to be a very niche industry.

I'm sorry but I don't work on Epson anymore. They are rarely repairable. Epson builds them to fail. Parts are impossible to get. Most of the time it costs more than its worth.

kind of. I am not a big social media person. I don't really like it honestly. That said, I post in the projectorcentral group on facebook and admin another projector group. but thats about it. I stopped using reddit and all other platforms.
