There will never be another Beatles, no one can affect all of society the way they did. They remain popular 60 years later and continue to inspire every successive generation, they stand alone at the top of the mountain.
its true. but now we have blackpink with a billion followers. they are the biggest in the World today. its different with a girls group, but their power is real. not one top model any were in the World can stand up and match any of these 4 girls. stadiums are full and expensive. every item the wear is sold out in 15 minutes if ot 15 seconds. even 11,000 dollar purses are gone immediately. they all speak many languages, like 4 to 6 languages fluently. their song like the Beatles are distict block buster. no dudes! and stunning beautiful. kind, generous, beautiful voices and they dont look and or act like hollywood leather legs.
Greatness and humility are such a winning combination. Ringo, peace & love!
The older I get, the more I appreciate Ringo. Always seems so happy-go-lucky, I think he'll outlive all the other classic British invasion musicians that are still standing. Huge thanks to Paul and Ringo -- and yes, Yoko -- for putting the pieces together to bring us one final Beatles masterpiece.
Ringo has not always been treated fairly in certain critic circles, but in my opinion he is mostly a phenomenal musician because he Always plays as a compliment to the music. Never tried to be a priority himself or to outshine anyone else in the band. He taught a whole generation of upcoming drummers to play to make the song work and that it is first be steady with a great back beat and to be tasteful with your playing. Second to add any "flashy" stuff Only if it compliments the entire band. He is a Complete musician instead of trying to be a "Look At Me" type drummer. I love his playing. ❤️🤟
This is incredible. Ringo Starr is a living legend, and so is David Letterman.
wtf? This actually happened? Oh, man, what an interview. And the last question, I almost looked away. I couldn't believe Dave asked him to sit in on drums. And he did! And it rocked!!!
He's STILL with us! 😁👍
Right? This is pretty much the channel to watch for lost celebrities 🙁
👍 🙂
There will never be another Beatles.
Ringo is a great interview.
A living legend!
One of the best Ringo interviews I have seen where he is relaxed and genuinely humble.
Ringo is always funny....i bet he has tons of stories of he and the fab four!
The unique thing about the beatles is that they were just as much
a cultural phenomenon as musical. Fellow boomers will understand.
The Beatles is in our DNA.
He was watching Paul Shaffer like a hawk keeping the timing on that exit song.
Dang it Ringo. This clip is from 34 years ago and you still look exactly the same! What well you drinking from?
Being a vegetarian, having a billion dollar bank account, and being married to Barbara Bach tends to contribute to longevity.
@@keefriff99 Don't forget being drunk from 1970 to 1990 ...
I’ve seen many interviews of a subject where there happen to be vegetarians/vegans and the opposite, and the vegetarians/vegans look so much better. They seem to have aged less than their counterparts and they posses a subtle glow. It’s interesting to see.
Thanks for posting after I requested it in the Ray Manzarek video! I love this channel so much. Also it's great to see BeatleMania in 2023 still going strong. What a time to be alive...
So this is the start of his All-Star Band…still going in 2023!
When Dave brought up playing the drums, Ringo was like, “Oh christ, REALLY??”
I'd have loved to hear the rest of the jam at the end.
The closest thing to another Beatles is all the Beatles tribute bands, I love them and I've met a really good few Beatles tributes after their shows❤
I feel like Ben Kingsley based his Mandarin character on this.
Did Ringo ever visit Dave at the Ed Sullivan Theatre?
I LOVE IT WHEN THE AMERICAN HOST OF THE SHOW ASKS RINGO ANYTHING AND RINGO OPENS HIS MOUTH ...AND THAT SCOUSE ACCENT COMES OUT 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭🙏💖🔥💥...I LOVE ALL OF THEM !, BUT THIS RINGO ,MAN IS SOMETHING ELSE !....ONE QUESTION I WOULD LOVE TO ASK HIM IS WHERE DID HE LEAVE HIS YELLOW SUBMARINE 😂😂😂😂😂 PROBABLY BACK IN LIVERPOOL STANDING ON THE ALBERT DOCKS IN THE MERSEY 😁😭😭😭😭🙏💖🎵
Ringo Starr, ladies and gentlemen!
The Emporer of Rock...is coming👌🎸🥁🌟
Old I remember watching I thought it was new still good though Ringo dave are great Ringo Starr has a great sense of humour
Ringo is getting younger.
Grey hair here. Now no grey.. a miracle.
That was friggin great!
What is hard to hear is when he runs down his new All-Starr band in 1989, they are practically all gone in 2023. 😢
Uh, well it was 34 years ago. Rockers don't usually live long lives. Walsh, Lofgren and Keltner are still with us, and of course, Ringo himself. Paul Shaffer even played a set with them back in '89.
LADIES AND GENTLEMAN THIS IS THE BLOKE WHO WAS BORN AND RAISED AT THE DINGLE (AN AREA OF LIVERPOOL ) HUMBLE,HUMBLE, HUMBLE PEOPLE 😭😭😭😭🎵💖🙏🐐🔥💥
I think Nirvana was the Beatles of my generation. They changed music forever. They appealed to almost all types of people. Even people who had never listened to music like that before. Kurt was a great song writer. And they also introduced their fans to other genres like punk and the blues and made them popular again too like the Beatles did.
I wish TH-cam would let me see the response to my comment. 🙄
A Honest & True Comment.
I came to say this. I was too young for Nirvana as they were happening but, 100% and feel the same.
@@NoellaScott they really started a music revolution. It was all hair bands and glam rock until Nirvana got played on the radio. Within a year or two everything had changed. They made it possible for bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Alice In Chains to make it big and people also started listening to anything Kurt listed as one of his influences from punk rock to folk and blues like Lead Belly. I doubt pop punk bands like the Offspring or 3rd wave ska bands like the Mighty Bosstones ever would have even been played on the radio either if it hadn’t been for Nirvana coming along and shaking things up and making people want to see what else was out there.
@@keefriff99 the impact Nirvana had wasn’t short lived. It’s still going on today. They changed what music would be played on the radio possibly for decades. I doubt modern punk or American ska ever would have been played on the radio if it wasn’t for Nirvana. They changed how people dressed and acted. Everyone started wearing flannels the year they got played on the radio for the first time and kids who weren’t even close to being born yet still wear Nirvana t-shirts to this day. I’m not a Nirvana fan boy but I did live through that era. I’d argue that if Kurt hadn’t died, Nirvana might have even had a bigger impact on society and pop culture than the Beatles have.
Now & Then is a pretty decent song & video.
Props to the video. The song is _not_ very good, IMO. Art is completely subjective, so both our opinions are valid.
Guided By Voices were like a punk rock version of The Beatles from 1993 to 1996. They are still going, but sound more like REM and Cheap Trick these days.🙂👍
Didn’t expect someone to reference GBV here. Nice!
Just saw him with the All Star Band here in Indianapolis in Sept. 2023
Ringo is charitble, but no. The socioeconomic conditions that drove the English to become rock stars will not repeat.
Dave pretending like he knows nothing about drumming is always kind of fascinating, because I know: he can play. Well.
This fascinates me, because I've been a fan of his since the morning show and it was only this year that I learned he played the drums as a hobby. The week of drummers he had back in 2011 all makes sense now.
Johnny Carson was a very good drummer, Dave would follow his hero. Great chat.
Sorry not sorry😂
Image ratio fail, what have you done to it? Looks warped.
STILL WAITING.!
lol
😉😉😉
i certainly won’t be holding my breath for this to come to fruition..

5:43 Beatles question
Kurt Cobain: "Hold my beer ..."
😊
Are you comparing the 3 records Nirvana made to the entire output and the epic scope of styles and genres and evolution of growth of the Beatles' ouvre in the 8 years they were together (not to mention all of the solo work that came after it from each member)? I love Nirvana, too, but - no, dude. Just no. Nirvana played ONE style of music and never once deviated from that - and they were great at it. But the two bands are simply not comparable at all in terms of both talent and influence. I'm not saying Cobain wasn't a talented songwriter - he was great (and heavily influenced by the Beatles, as he said many times) - but different planets, man.
@redadamearth No; I was making a joke. However, I do think Nirvana set the zeitgeist for their age and reached a level of cultural and musical significance unseen since the Beatles, albeit to a lesser degree.
@@redadamearth
[whatever, nevermind..] ♡_The Ruddles were 4 uniquely energized artists, who had 10+yrs on the scene, Brian Epstein, George Martin, high-caliber peers, millionaire sponsors..all while riding the swell of an infamously massive/global/cultural/zeitgeist_♡
♤_Kurt had 4½yrs, 2 loyal band-mates, Butch Vig, a niche alt-scene, mtv, kurtneylove, & a heroine habit! He jumped ship 30yrs! ago..and the world is Still Rockin his name..check your pop history, brother..like the early 60s, the 80s into the 90s was a vacumm, split evenly between hiphop, epm-raves and hairmetal..just like the beatles, Nirvana -almost literally- came out of nowhere!..Kurt Cobain came on and burnt ALL of it down! 🤗

He's right too
He might be wrong - there may never be another Beatles. These days, music is mostly machine generated based on corporate algorithms.
Just as Orwell predicted.
Taylor Swift mania seems similar to Beatlemania right now. On the other hand, I cannot name one song of hers.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Shake it off? Point taken, though.
Peece 'n loov, peece 'n loov to all!
There have been a few great global bands to come along since the Beatles & the Stones…Zeppelin, the Who, the Clash, The Police, U2, Metallica, Nirvana…. But none of them come close to the Fab Four.
Ringo-"me next band will be biggah"
There is another Beatles and her name is Taylor Swift. Her numbers and following are nuts.
Sir Richard Starkey.
What brand drums. Looks like a Fibes logo?
Ringo is cool, actually Taylor Swift is just as popular as the Beatles now among young people, mainly females. So there will always be new artists for new generations.
Ringo called it. 2 years later, Nirvana changed music, fashion, and culture. 👍🏽
Wow. First and only time I've ever heard Ringo dragging.
RIP in peace Rango
Wow, I'm view 737. I must be some kind of admirer....(according to YT's algorithms, at least...)
I'm sorry Ringo but i would have to disagree with you. IMO there will never be another Beatles!
Not dead.
And then Dave met Dave Grohl..... 😉
I think Grohl's drumming is as good as Moon's and Bonham's. He's a monster on the drums. I base this on his Them Crooked Vultures performances.
Todays Beatles is Taylor Swift.
Ahhh get over it folks. You KNOW its true. She is as popular now as they were then.
The only thing that came remotely close to a Beatles replication or influence was probably U2.
I love U2, but there are no other bands that came close to doing what the Beatles did.
I’m a Stones guy, so they’ve got longevity going for them, but the cultural impact of the Beatles is a singular achievement that no one has or will ever replicate.
@@keefriff99 I agree, especially about the cultural impact.
Open for discussion, but here it comes:
I grew up listening to the Beatles, they're in my DNA and all that, but I have to say that Ringo Starr is the luckiest drummer in the world. He's not the greatest drummer by any stretch. He was in the right place at the right time. The drumming style he played wasn't as ferocious as Keith Moon, not as rhythmically challenging as Steve Gadd, others have great accolades.
I'm not saying Ringo can't handle the sticks, but most any other competent drummer could play what was needed for the Beatles sound.
I've heard rumors that, among reasons that Ringo quit the Beatles, only to be coaxed back by Paul, was that during sessions for either the White Album or perhaps later, Paul secretly went back in and laid down his own drum tracks. Ringo heard them and knew it wasn't his drumming. Maybe just a rumor, but if it was true, Paul didn't think Ringo's work was as good as his own.
Anyway, the right place at the right time. Luckiest drummer in the world.
@@markahern9642
Yes, and Birthday. Iconic. But my point is that most any competent drummer could probably fill that role. When it comes down to it, none of them are exactly virtuoso players on their instruments. They're all good, don't get me wrong, and the pop sound they brought was wonderful in a time when nothing else sounded like that.
They had great pop melodies, their psychedelic experimentation was groundbreaking, and in that sense, I have to give a lot of credit to the "fifth" Beatle, George Martin. His studio prowess allowed the boys to realize the sounds they imagine.
Ringo fit in well with the rest as one of the loveable moptops. They were molded by Brian Epstein and played their roles well.
When Brian died and they started doing whatever they wanted to, the results were the horrible film Magical Mystery Tour. I suppose Beatlemanicas would differ, but for perspective, I'm a huge Zappa fan and I hate his Uncle Meat movie. Helps to be objective.
If you think Ringo Starr is not a great drummer, with respect, you're not understanding what makes a great drummer. The guy is a human metronome. His timing is almost unmatched and he always knew *exactly* what served the song, which is really what being a great drummer is all about. The other drummers you're referring to were showy and extravagant - and that's fine for what it is - but the best drummers will always be the ones who you don't even *notice* at first and who are simply doing what serves the song best. And as for his few flourishes, some of the greatest drummers in the world are on record as saying that a few of his fills are almost impossible to play in the same way he did. But the main point is: knowing what serves the SONG - not "playing ferociously" or "loudly" or doing insane rhythmic patterns.
@@redadamearth
I mean, I suppose when Jimmie Nicol sat in for him on the Australian leg of the tour when Ringo was ill, the fans didn't notice because the music couldn't be heard over the fans screaming.
I respect the opinions coming in. The more I read from you and others, the more I appreciate his contribution.
You're right, a drummer isn't supposed to be all over the place. Their main function is to be the timekeeper, or metronome, as you put it.
I have to say that, as I mentioned in another post, I'm a Zappa fan and the drummers he had played impossible music. For what Ringo was tasked to do, he certainly fit the bill.
For what it's worth, as Zappa goes, in his movie 200 Motels, Ringo Starr played the role of Larry the Dwarf, otherwise Frank Zappa in the film.
Zappa didn't speak one line in the film. Ringo portrayed him.
Just a little tidbit on Ringo.
@@markahern9642
Was the song as released with the iconic drum fill played by Paul?
😶🌫️ shadup, yer just fishin for attention, faux-critique bait 😶🌫️
3rd and insanely early
I'd say Taylor Swift is that current generation grabber he said would never happen again. Don't follow her, but I know she's got an insane fan base.
Obviously have The Grateful Dead.....
I’d say it was Nirvana. Taylor Swift and especially the Grateful Dead only appeal to certain types of people. Nirvana changed music and appealed to lots of different types of people. They also introduced those new fans of rock to other genres like punk and the blues much like the Beatles did.
I don’t think you could call Taylor Swift a generation grabber. She’s obviously extremely popular but she really only appeals to females. Not an entire generation. Half of one at best.
@@craigcampbell1843 - My octogenarian parents have never heard of Nirvana, or if they have, couldn't name you a single song. My Gen Z nephew has probably heard of them but I'm not sure he would know their catalogue. Both my parents and my nephew are well versed in the Beatles, however.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH what does that prove? Your parents were what? 50-60 when Nirvana came out on the radio? That’s not exactly the demographic Ringo is talking when he says he thinks another rock band will grab an entire generation like the Beatles did. My dad loves rock from when he was a teenager. He’s probably ten years younger than your folks are and he couldn’t name a single Nirvana song either but that doesn’t mean they didn’t change music and fashion and pop culture forever. And they did it in a LOT less time than the Beatles. If your parents had been 50-60 when the Beatles came out, instead of being teenagers, they probably wouldn’t have been fans of them either. Your nephew likes the Beatles and not Nirvana. Ok. That’s one person. Go to a high school and see how many kids are wearing Nirvana tshirts and how many are wearing Beatles tshirts.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH I just went on Hot Topic’s website out of curiosity because that’s where teenagers get their band shirts. In the first five pages they had everything from rap to punk to metal to classic rock. There was AC/DC. Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd. The Rolling Stones. Even the Allman Brothers Band. Not a single Beatles shirt. There were SIX Nirvana shirts just in the first five pages and 1 listed as currently trending. And they were only played on the radio for 3 years before Kurt died.
damn rip
he’s WELL ALIVE.!

There WERE other great bands until about the end of the century. It's been a wasteland ever since. Ringo said this 34 years ago. Unfortunately, he was wrong. And it's not mandatory. You could get four talented charismatic musicians together again, except these days, it's a crime to have an all male band. Everything's about prima donna solo female artists. People are too lazy to learn instruments, DJs (who choose music, not sample jockeys) no longer exist, record companies are unashamed to release garbage, and audiences have been dumbed down. Wow, how depressing the world of music became.
