    I love this color scheme. It's like Jim Carrey's The Mask in the 17th century. Anyway, this is an older video, but you should know those of us dipping our toes into miniature painting are still finding your work super helpful. Cheers.

    Great video! Love how the colors represent meaning/setting.
    What would you do for a magnetized mini that went on multiple bases?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like being able to pull the orc off and attach him to a square base when you want? The feet are way too small for magnets. Guess you can maybe put some pins in the feet.

    Simply amazing, love your painting. I just picked up a color wheel from Micheal's this week, i never learned college level color theory , i was a business major LOL, But has giving me general idea of contrasting and complimenting colors. Speaking of which do you really have a doctorate ?

  • @Trazynn
    @Trazynn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm not too sure about this result. It's striking, but it's also incredibly noisy. When you apply this many contrasting colours it helps to have the more desaturated or have a more neutral colour in the background. The more colours you add, the further you need to move down in saturation.
    Your Gellerpox is a good example of this. The neutral skin is what allowed you to play around with different coloured hair and clothes.

      @willierants5880 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed, mission accomplished. That was the point of this particular theme. Over the top? You bet. You won't be able to not notice this guy when he walks into a tavern or square.

    have you seen the new Citadel Contrast Paints? If so what do you think?
    Too me they look interesting but from what i have seen it is recommended that you use the new contrast undercoat/primer. In the back of my mind i am a little worried that they are just trying to sell more primer by making a thicker wash adding extra flow aid.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't really comment without trying them. Seems to be the same effect you can get with a heavy coat of slightly thinned paint over a light basecoat.

  • @sergesannom2040

    Great job. I see you are using a tile as a pallet, so what dilution do you use for your painting? Thank you

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It varies on several factors. Opacity of the paint, color being applied, speed painting verses smoother blending. Anywhere between 1:4 to 1:8 paint to water ratio.

      Chad Nine I often download the stl files and sort printing through my local printers. Getting these printed in resin is mighty fine, plus I can print several copies of the same mini

  • @frankdev

    this might be a stupid question, but you wash and reuse that tile palette, right? do you use the tile because it's cheap and easy to clean?
    thanks for the video. this is a nice model to learn from since it has so many open areas but lots of opportunity for color.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's just a side bonus. It's because they allow you to better thin the paint.

    I posted this question on another of your earlier videos, but I thought it would bear repeating on your most recent technique video. I absolutely love your videos as they have helped me immensely in painting my mini's. Is there a way you could put in your description the Vallejo Paint color numbers? This would be incredibly helpful for any and all future paint purchases. A great many thanks for your helpful painting techniques!

    I have to respectfully disagree with your opening statement that color theory breakd down with miniature painting. Things like complementary colors absolutely still work with mini. I feel you even demonstrated it with the blue tunic and orange pants. Then you even recognized the red wasn't right, and the shift to purple took you to a split complementary scheme.
    All this said, you are a phenomenally better painter than I am, and I don't want to display Dunning-Kreuger here. Would you mind clarify what you were trying to say?
    It's a very striking miniature, and it definitely highlights theme.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Read about color theory and you'll find many sources that state if you use one color then you MUST use this other color. That's the part I disagree with. Art related color theory should be used as a suggestion, but not follow dogmatically. Rather than approaching miniature painting solely as an art project it should also be approached as a real life object/person/animal. We don't strictly follow color theory when choosing clothes to wear, for example. It's helpful, but one shouldn't be obsessed with it. If you're stuck and don't know what colors to use then consult a color wheel for suggestions. Otherwise use whatever colors you want to use.
