    I am really enjoying this series.
    The title panel art style reminds me of something ...

    Wow! You are saving my sanity. Trying to paint ninja's wearing black (not grey!). Great to see all 4 examples and mini looks awesome even if you wouldn't normally mix these tones!

      How little paint is on your brush at any given time? I keep using way too much paint

    Very nice. One thing I think is important to recognize when it comes to black is the material - a black jacket made from textiles will of course have a different highlight type than say black hair, which might even get a very stark highlight of straight white from the beginning. I looked at some photos of black horses, and the highlights are incredibly strong there - the fur coat really shines.

    Nice tutorial.i often fin with clothing there is a fine line between a black cloth jacket and the grey highlighting making it look like leather.

    You make this look so easy!! I have 2 Drow dark elves to do, and I am afraid to even start as they are for a Dungeon Master (his premium collectible piece) and another player. All I have to do is start.

    Just found this video and really enjoyed it. Doc your explanation that black is black and it can’t be shaded only highlighted makes perfect sense to me. Would the process be the same if you were painting something more shiny or reflective like the black armor on a medieval knight rather than clothing? Thanks.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Something shiny would require much higher highlights to give the idea of more light reflected.

    Thanks, Doc. I'm loving this Hero Forge series. I'm am planning on paring black with gold (Egyptian Anubis) and thinking a warm black would be best...??

    • @ThePaintingClinic

      Could go either route. Blues and gold looks nice, so cold black is also an option.

    When painting black I think it's always a good thing to remember these wise words:

    Hi Dr Faust, any chance you could show black scales in a future video? I know you recently did an amazing blue dragon, so maybe a dragonborn and show us how scales would differ from a jacket. Or would this work for that as well?
    As always - thanks for the videos!

    what varnish did you use??/? besides the gloss

  •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I painted a few heroforge mini's as a commission, but all them had very obvious layers from the printing process, even after a few coats of paint. How did you get rid of those?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The high grade plastic had almost none. A bit of light scraping here and there on a few took care of it.

    So, I'm painting a mini from Heroforge that my father-in-law bought. He got it made in steel, and there are just so so many grain marks. Any tips on how to get the steel prepped for painting? PS. I've got some files, but they have only made the grain ridges brighter >.

    • @andrewamann8855
      @andrewamann8855 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure your surface feels smooth, and just prime the model. I've not worked with anything from hero forge, but I've painted a number of metal models in my time, and the shine and grain from your surface prep doesn't really matter, but the texturing absolutely does.
      Oh, and finish with a matte varnish over at least 2 coats of gloss. Paint jobs on metal, any metal, will chip insanely easily.

    • @Johnnyboi1971
      @Johnnyboi1971 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like Andrew says just make sure its smooth,give it a clean and prime my favourite being gesso at the moment.

      @@andrewamann8855 @Johnnyboi1971 Here's kind of what I have going so far: share.icloud.com/photos/0CH-BrBE2i-LZYPQxCMkzaXEQ
      I eventually ended up just priming with gray just to see how it turned out, since I couldn't do much to smooth out all of the steel. It's a WIP, but it might still look decent when I'm done.

    • @andrewamann8855
      @andrewamann8855 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathandaniel8840 looks like you might have done well to get a second coat of primer on there, but the surface texture is looking more than a bit gnarly under the paint... The color scheme, itself, is looking pretty alright, though.
