Quite possibly my favourite actor. Never ever tire of seeing Cushing on screen. He put 100% into every single role and made you believe every line he said. On top of that, he was a genuinely lovely man.
I worked in a music shop,in Great Portland Street,London, where Peter was a regular customer.He was widowed by then,his wife who he adored died aged just 66.He said that he was just "in waiting" till he met her again.Sadly,it was 23 years(when he was 81) before that came about.I feel sure that they are happy now together

He's such a wonderful human being. Makes you want to be a better person, really. This is what I watch when I need a pick me up. He's so warm and genial, it's just amazing. You can just tell how much he cares about the people he worked with on a personal basis. He is so genuine and lovely and... I just can't sing his praises enough. There are no words that will do him justice.

His gardener once related that he had to wait until Peter was away from home before he could carry out any necessary weeding because Peter couldn't stand the thought of anything being killed...not even a weed. He was indeed a gentleman in every sense of the word.
He was a great lover of nature and animals too. The term "pure soul" doesn't get applied often, but Peter was almost the very definition of those words. What I wouldn't give for just half an hour of tea and chat with him. He is an inspiration for us all.

A great man, may he rest in peace. May I recommend _Horror Express_ or what is left of his Sherlock Holmes TV series as must-sees for anyone who seeks classic Cushing.
OMG this 15 minutes of television is such a gem! Peter Cushing was simply magic - I don't believe in patriotism, but he does make me proud to be British, just to claim some kinship with him. I am so glad they featured this great actor and gentleman on This is Your Life - and he is pretty doddery here (what year was this???) so it seems they did it just in time. Every guest who comes on clearly adores him - the affection and respect in which he was held is obvious and says so much about him. I'm just so sad for him that he lost his wife, I recall reading he was devastated after she died and kept running up and downstairs at his home, in hopes of bringing on a heart attack so he would be reunited with her. I'm glad he didn't, because as this tribute shows, peter Cushing was deeply loved by many people. What a lovely and sincere tribute from Ursula Andress to open the show - she obviously adored him. Back then horror came from what was suggested, never from something bluntly shown. Subtlety was the essence, along with good acting. All those memories will always come back along Mr. Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee.
Goodness me. I had all but forgotten Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Such a wonderful human being he was and oh how frail he looks. So sad that the world has lost so many of the greatest actors of the 20th Century. I was a very young boy at the time of Dracula and of course I suffered from terrible night mares after seeing just one Dracula film. Such was life back in the 50s and hope they are all performing in that great theatre in the sky. I hope when I pass on I can sit in the audience and enjoy the remakes of those great days of movies.
Lee took the role in Star Wars Episode 2 becasue Peter had been in the very first one in 1977. Not only was he great as Count Dooku (possibly the best thing in a so-so film), but it was a wonderful tribute to his dear friend.
Doesn't surprise me that Peter Cushing loved animals - he was a truly great man, and full of love and compassion for those who are vulnerable. If ever a man deserved to be knighted for services to entertainment, Peter Cushing certainly did! God bless him and keep him safe, wherever he is now.

It's crazy to think he died a week or two after I was even born. I hope many more generations know about Peter and what a wonderful man he was.
I had just watched a radio interview, last radio interview with his co-actors chiming in of the man they knew and worked with, including Christopher Lee. It was a rental on Amazon and I was always fascinated about Peter Cushing and always thought he was under rated as an actor. Very versatile man. But what touched me the most was how everyone who ever worked with him and nothing but praise about his acting, (that is always nice of course), but mostly his character as a human being and his kindness and gentleness was so genuine. And no one who ever worked with him had ever heard a bad thing about him as a person. That is class and I was very touched to find this out about this wonderful person. God's rest to you and hoping you are enjoying your loving rewards with your beloved Helen. :)
I was born in the wrong century. Honest to God, I appreciate the decency manners refinery and cultural upbringing of these men, not my own. Even the MC stops himself to avoid yacking over Mr. Cushing when he greets his friend coming onto stage.
Amen to that in the name of Jesus. I really mean it by saying. He stuck so much to his beloved wife Helen! That love remains to eternity! Such warmth and greatness of a delightfull and kind human being only God himself could create. I wished I could have met him.
It's no secret that Mr Cushing firmly believed he would be reunited with his wife in the after-life. When John Mills is introduced (who had just appeared as Dr. Watson to Peter's Sherlock Holmes in the one-off TV movie The Masks of Death) after paying tribute to him he mentions that there's some-one else who will be pleased to see him receiving these accolades - "Helen". That got a thumbs-up from Peter and a smile. Unfortunately this was just after my tape ran out and I don't think I had time to find a replacement.
How lucky we Star Wars fans were to virtually have Cushing and Lee together again in the same saga, as Grand Moff Tarkin and Count Dooku. If only Vincent Price had been able to appear somewhere to complete the classic trifecta. Perhaps a character in the animated series could be based on Price :)
