There is another option. It's not the best. But it is an option. Coloured resin. It would not stand out as much as the vinyl wraps or paint. But it would be a good compromise. Still saves weight but has a bit of colour as well.

The FIA just has to mandate a certain number of grams of paint required for liveries. I can’t believe they haven’t fixed this already since the liveries were awful last year as well.

I mean, isn't that kinda expensive? If not then perhaps they can just use it in some of the areas where the carbon is. That would be a solid compromise also perhaps.

the question is, will it impact the strength of the resin? if the strength is impacted then you need more of it to make it meet the FIA safety standard

@@pizzaslut3818 It would probably be pretty simple. I assume they could just have every team use the same brand/manufacturer paint and then use a paint meter on the cars to make sure they’re in spec.

I love the Ferrari yellow stripe and red wheel covers. The yellow stripe in particular is cool because the livery will blend with the three main tyre compounds, with red and white already accounted for. It just makes everything pop in a cohesive way that satisfies my lizard brain.
Also, I don't mind the carbon nearly as much as I have in previous seasons. The Alpine isn't great, but the way most teams have been strategic about where to colour has helped a lot. Plus I'm probably just used to it.
If half of the paint disappears after testing, then we will have an issue.

As an unofficial but frequently requested former livery designer for virtual raceteams, mainly Assetto Corsa, I am utterly appalled by these so called designs. The weight saving excuses are just stupid and will do much more damage to the identity of the car brand than contributing to the car performance or making sponsors more visible. It's an incredibly ridiculous lack of creativity in the most prestigious car sport in the world.
    This is just LAZY.

The other half of it besides just weight is the sponsors being stubborn. You can have an amazing idea for a livery, but most sponsors REQUIRE certain colors, rather than having their logo fit the scheme, or have specific, sometimes extremely strange demands about neighboring colors, angles, and just about everything you can think of (and more) - that plus managing carbon fiber, AND the team colors, AND not matching any other teams livery, is a big problem, especially when multiple teams use Red/Blue/White/Black.

Art is very important, more important than most people think. And in this corporate era of western culture, that association between people, culture and art is starting to dissipate. It's not just a visual stimulus. It's meaning, value, passion. These things matter, it's important. Don't think "oh it's just paint", it's much...much more than that. Look at modern logo designs with how simple they are now, dissasociating us from the actual artwork. Our film and music industry, even the gaming industry is being plagued by this disease. It makes us care less about the beauty of something. It makes us not appreciate it. Look at our architecture even, modern ones compared to the past. It's no longer about how can we bring a community together, rather more about how much money and profit can be generated from it. We must stray away from that kind of mindset. We must bring value, meaning and passion back into our lives. There are many things necessary for life, but we need to maintain the things we stay alive for.

    • @il-ma.le.

Value can be easily taken back to money, and meaning faces it even worse, even the last designer can shove a "design language" in every pore at reach and vomit so many excuses in merit that you even wonder what you were asking in the first place.
I'm surely missimg something to what you wrote, but they can twist words/concepts in their favor too easily nowadays.

    Great video as always :)
But I dont see any chance of making rules for liveries, because you cant control them anyway. We saw last year, that even very important parts like the planks (wich you can seperate from a car unlike a livery) are nearly not controlled at all.
In the end of the day it is up to the teams, how attractive they wont to be to the fans, so I think it will regulate itself.
I dont even mind the carbon to much in general, if the normal colour is contrasting it nicely.
And sometimes I am even thinking, that it is a bit bizarre, how much F1-Fans are hating carbon, compared to how special (and expensive) carbon parts are for street cars ;)
But anyway, here is my ranking:
    Williams: 3/10
    Sauber: 4
    Alpine: 6 (pink: 7)
    Haas: 7
    RB: 8
    AM: 8
    RB2: 9
    Merc: 9
    Ferrari: 10
    McL: 10
So I am mostly really happy with the liveries :)
Now I cant wait for the season to start!
    Keep it up mate :)

I’d be VERY surprised if every car on the grid ISN’T actually at the minimum weight. Hell, the reason Sauber was decently quick in the new regs (as far as I can gather) was them getting to that weight minimum faster than their immediate competitors. It’s more than JUST getting to the weight limit, it’s how the weight is distributed across the car. If they can strip whole grams off the car that’s extra weight they can put in the Ballast to lower the center of gravity. The only car to offensively use carbon imo is Alpine, I think everyone else is at LEAST permissible. Sauber’s sponsor colors are LITERALLY lime green and black so it’s at very least on brand like Merc

It is a minimum weight limit of 798 kg the more over a Car is the slower it is but it is allowed to be over but because you Get slower they dont want to but you Are not allowed to be under because that would make them faster so teams want to be on the limit ofc they cannot match exactly so they Are slightly under but since that is not allowed they have to but that gives them more options they can add weight so they gain more performance or they can add balance weight to make the Car match the exact limit which is better then being over cause they can use the balance weight to basically balance the Car i know i explain things bad but i hope it helped a bit in essene overweight allowed but bad underweight good but not allowed exactly on the weight perfect

I swear i do not understand how can people like that atrocity of Kick Sauber livery, that car is so revolting, i get angry every single time i see it or am forced to see in posts regarding the livery.
My rankings and reasons for it :
    11 - Kick Sauber (Can't stand it)
10 - Alpine Blue (What in The Hell is the point of Blue)
9 - Alpine Pink ( Considering the lack of livery, this looks better and some what nice)
8 - Williams ( I rather last years, but still am interesting design, i hoped they would transition to the blue they used for the e-sports team)
7 - Mercedes ( Only works in front angles, that car is stuning when you look at front, but then comes the side and is just ruined everything for me, nothing works on that side os too much with too little)
6 - Haas ( I liked last year more, 2022 still my favourite under tbis new regs, but this years grew on me and i really like it now, is carbon with hints of white and red, but is done in a way that i can apreciate the effort and enjoy the car).
5 - Red Bull ( As far as tradition goes, they still killing it with this bangar but i don't like this one specially how weird it looks with that Mercedes inspired halo shoulders in it, feels out of balance and disproportionate).
4 - Vcarb (Apart for the Angled white cut and the stripe not being fully red or bang on silver with red letters in it, this loses some spots which also some sponsor placements botters me).
3 - Mclaren ( I immediately love it since they drop that stupid looking blue which was completely out of place with no purpose at all since 2021, and fully embraced even more the papaya, this looks great and from the Papaya Cars that 2019 Mclaren still my undisputed favourite ).
2 - Ferrari ( I prefer last years over this one, because the yellow lines grew on me but still feels out of place dame with the white lines, those wheel paints is wayt too damn much, an out line or stripes like the Aston would go better with me and the Peroni logo basically linked with the Ceva on the sidepod, bothers me so much, if they move one to the air box region on the engine cover, God i would be so happy).
1 - Aston Martin ( I love this color, and they some what improved in bits from last year and downgraded as well, the green tone is different, I'm still getting used to Aramco and not Cognizant on the sidepod and rear wing, the car some what feels empty with way less sponsors, but still feels like they could've done something better, but all together i can't conplain because i really like it, specially after seeing on the shakedown under the sun and lights hitting the car, i was in love).

That weight limit everyone is proposing is pointless, the real thing is no carbon fiber weaving on sight on parts different from floor, suspensions and rear wing support. No tricks like chrome or transparent, the weaving must not be visible in both standing and moving conditions. And either we start organizing petitions or we uit the sport en masse, whoever's responsible for this will make a move only when less and less people will watch the cars running.
As for the liveries, AM is gradually shedding paint and the yellow gets slimmer, Ferrari had a better shade of red last year(even if this one looks anodized at times) and those stripes seems random, Merc pulled a West McLaren to salute Hamilton, McLaren has a brand identity crisis and fails to sell its papaya but no one seems to care, Red Bull is pulling a Marlboro McLaren from years now, money spinner Red Bull ll has random stripes on their engine half(the stripe on the nosecone apparently pays hommage to what's been done on Benettons several times, and that I do like), Haas constantly makes better rowers liveries than Renault if you ask me, and I do like the writing on their sidepods while the also modern mania of making look angular rounded structures like nosecones irks me the wrong way(paired with the 'all carbon fiber' trend of course), Stake was already ridiculing itself with its forced name and that livery of bland stripes did not help matters(on Racedepartment you find what someone did of the pixel art flames from last year's Belgium special), the guy at Williams can't draw and the battery engine take has lost it's wow factor from at least a year. Worst offender Alpine, they did a cool trick on the nosecone towards the cokpit but for the rest that thing is enraging(even though they succeeded in making BWT's pink ininfluential).

I look forward to this video every year but yea I agree with aldas, slightly disappointing. Here's my placements in reverse order and my thoughts on them
    10) Alpine:
Alpine comfortably have the worst livery for me and it's funny how apparently the livery designers didn't even make the livery, it was a famous artist. Tbf I don't actually mind the nose it's jus every where else. Ive said it once and ill say it again. It's literally just a carbon car with blue, red and pink accents. Would've been pretty to make a car worse then this.
    9) Haas
Haas I don't actually mind the Haas there's jus better liveries. Also i think Haas can get away with the carbon cause it's always been part of there branding colours along with the red and white. But still a majority black car.
    8)Williams
U could swap 7 and 8 any way around and I wouldn't mind but I put Williams at 8 purely cause it's an evolution and the Stake livery would pop more in the light like the Merc does but is very close imo.
    7)Stake F1
I remember saying this when we heard about audi joining F1. "Im gonna miss the alfa Romeo liveries" and I do but tbf this livery looks good tho but I still think there's a bit to muck carbon on the car for my liking and like I said before this will pop alot more outside then the Williams cause of the bright green. I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like outside. This could've been higher I jus think they could've added more green on the main body. It has potential tho. I said I was gonna miss the Alfa Romeo liveries and I do.
    6) RB
Feels weird putting Red Bull this low but I think it has to be done on this occasion. Feels like the liveries gotten slightly worse over the years. It may be iconic but I still think they need a slight change weather it's bringing back the purple or even lightening up the Blue ( Shout out to Tommo for those ideas and I agree 😅)
    5) VCARB
VCARB, despite the crap name purely there livery is a banger and very much is a throwback to the Torro Rosso and I love, it looks awesome but could look better with slight tweaks like taking of the white on the top of the nose. I don't actually mind the white on the back of the car, controversial I know.
    4) AMR
I will admit slight down grade on the previous 2yrs but thts purely jus because of the carbon. Although placed strategically it's still a slight annoyance but still a banger livery
    3)Merc
Like aldas the outside shots sold it for me and it looks awesome. But this is 3rd because I've always said I think they could've integrated the silver and the black better but apart from tht a beautiful livery and is still a contender for 1st. A banger livery.
    2)McLaren
It took I think basically like a month to top this livery with the Ferrari and thts 1 car out of the possible 9, showing how good this livery is but even then, it's still debatable. It's controversial but I didn't actually mind the blue McLaren had last season.I think it worked they jus didn't integrate it properly. If they had the blue of last year and integrated it properly this could've been first
    1)Ferrari
As a surprise to no one im gonna put the Ferrari at the top although it's very close. Ferrari is the only team tht can get away with having 3 accent colours (Yellow, White and black) while the rest of the teams have 1 or 2. They've intergrated the other colours well I think although I think they could lean slightly more into the white basically swapping the black and white hierchy but thts jus my opinion and takes nothing away from the livery. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. A deserved 1st
( The top 3 could be in any order I think and im still not fully sold on this one but it's the one I'm most happy with. I'd love feedback . I'm curious wht u guys think. 😁😅)

I appreciate cars like the ferrari and aston martin that are distinct and noticeable from far away. I really dont understand why half of every car is black, it used to be that every part of the car was custom painted.

FIA can easily fix that with a ban on exposed carbon fiber body parts.

I reckon Mercedes have the best livery then Ferrari 2nd best - like the stripes, Mclaren, RB- sillyname with the horns cleverly included esp top view two sets thereof, Sauber with the fluro vivid green, Aston Martin just nothing new from last year so points off there, Williams, Haas, the unimaginative and so very sick of RBR- boringly horribly excessively dominant team hurting the sport. Finally in dead last the Alpine liveries this year are an absolute eyesore in my view. Worst by far.

To me basically the F1 came more boring just to watch as nothing exactly feels more fun to watch and no personalities that I would care about. Hamilton is just rich arrogant and Verstappen is just annoying on my opinion. And as it comes just more and more expensive to watch F1 with some good quality of commentators and stuff.
Also as Kimi Räikkönen left the F1, there aren't Finnish guys that I would care to cheer. I could hoped to be alive like when Keke Rosberg drove with manual gearshift. That could be most likely fun to watch.

I have the feeling no one cares about those boring launches with fake cars and how the livery's look except all the formula 1 youtube channels haha :D
I don't car for the livery, as long as that car itself looks cool, and by that i also mean it could just look crazy from a design. But in the end no one cares, cars should go fast and make for good racing. Nothing matters, the first race will still be the first race. Everything before that is just "unimportant". Feels like the formula 1 youtubers only make these complaining videos because they don't have anything else to make videos about haha

I simply don't agree with all of this talk. there has been so much hysteria about the liveries this year, but then when you actually break down most individual liveries, everyone seems to agree that most of them are very good. ferrari, mclaren, merc, aston, red bull, williams, even Vcarb have very nice liveries, and stake and haas dont exactly look bad either. there is not a single ugly livery on the grid. watching seasons in the early 2000s where there was so much white and red everywhere had the same exact problem of telling who's who in the pack, but no one talks about that anymore.

The Alpine also isn't that bad. I get where you're coming from, it's a letdown, it could and should have been so much better. But it still looks pretty cool.
