Usually you plant in spring and harvest in autumn. They start to come to the surface when the are ready. And the vines start to die off when it cools down. You want to harvest them before the frosts come (if you get frosts)
HI Holly. Thanks so much for this! Where would I find the more unusual sweet potatoes to grow please? I like the look of the Hawaiian one you showed. Thanks!
@@SustainableHolly Thank you, I'll keep an eye out! I've been looking out for black sapote in the asian shops to try before I commit to growing a tree.
I live in WA as well. Carnarvon actually and I have started growing slips on my sweet potato (by accident) so I have put it in water to encourage more slips. I have been scared to buy any for awhile but I found some reduced and bought a heap and that is how I got slips starting to grow. Not sad about it at all. Just the opposite. I would love to know where to get the purple ones from please. The whole purple and the white and purple ones. An old Japanese lady also taught me how to cook the white sweet potatoes so they are very sweet and can be eaten on their own
Would love to see a video showing us how you cook with the different varieties of sweet potato - some recipe ideas would be great.
Thanks for the suggestion William that’s a great idea! I will get on to it 🙂
I agree! This would be wonderful!
Awesome video Holly! Heaps of great info. I’m growing them this year for the first time, so can’t wait to harvest some!
Thank you! The NZ ones taste the best!! I miss them! Ours aren’t as sweet.
Awesome video!! Thanks!
Great video
Please make a video on fertilizer
I would love a video like this about growing pumpkins! I have had a really hard time with pumpkins because rodents keep chewing into them :(
I do have a video all about pumpkins 🎃💚
@@SustainableHolly oops! I'll look it up hahaha thanks!
How do you know when to harvest the tubers? 😊

I find them in fruit and veggie shops or Asian grocery places often have them. Then either do the water method or straight to the garden

Bandicooting, we have plenty of Quendas here so they will probably enjoy them as well.
