Larry Lujack was THE BEST ANNOUNCER at WCFL, Period, in my opinion! SuperJock lives on! Bob Deerborn, I didn't get to know until I was an adult. I love him too! God Bless these men!

Great competition for WLS over the years.

From the excesses of Ken Draper to the minimalist John Rook, this was truly a C F L of a station! I know .. my cat speaks Chicago.

Ellis, There is a WCFL "Time Line" Website. I don't know how accurate it is. It talked about Ken Draper coming to WCFL and the Chicago Federation of Labor. Keep in mind I'm just 55, so some of this history I have to rely on sources like Google to get the facts, or the Public Library. I'm from Nashville, I love mostly all kinds of music, but not Country Music!

Ellis, I can email you of a copy Larry's last day on WCFL, that is near FM Quality. I got it and reprossed it with with a windows program. It sounds pretty darn good to me.

I thought that WCFL was Top-40 as far back as the late 1950's, a couple of years before WLS flipped to Top-40.

Yes. I think CFL was top 40 as early as 1954 or 55. WLS mad the jump to top 40 a bit later.

@@EllisFeaster I think Ken Draper converted WCFL to Pop/Rock in 1965. Don't hold me to that because of my younger age, but from what I read on another website, that is my understanding. I'm looking for the first hour of Larry Lujack's final Rock Show on WCFL, on in March of 1976. Ellis, if you get it, give me a shout. I have the last two hours. Thanks 😊

Also, somewhere in the 50's, the old 1160 WJJD was Rock-n-Roll. My guess was WJJD was a Daytimer, so I would have to look it up when WJJD went Country. I definitely remember in the 70s when WJJD was only allowed to stay on two hours after sunset due to WJJD had to protect KSL in Salt Lake City, UT.
