- WMMR 93.3 Philadelphia - David Dye - March 6 1972 - Radio Aircheck
WMMR has been playing Rock for Philadelphia since it’s Progressive Rock days in 1968, and it continues to be Philly’s top Rock Station. For many years, there was a Rock Battle in Philly between WMMR & 94 WYSP.
This 1972 aircheck features David Dye. Dye spent time on WMMR in the 1970s during it's freeform Rock days. In 1981 he moved to alternative rock station WIOQ 102.1 FM where he made his mark on the music scene for nearly a decade. In 1989, Dye took his musical knowledge to WXPN Philadelphia, where he hosted the station's Sleepy Hollow radio program, and after a few years, he started the long running World Cafe show.
Feel free to check out some of the many other videos on the Ellis B Feaster's Radio Channel! Established in 2008! One of You Tube's oldest RADIO AIRCHECK MUSEUM with a NEW VIDEO posted daily at 3PM EST.
After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of my own radio air checks of ME on the air, and many of my friends as well. You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away, but have passed their audio to me to share here. You'll find radio airchecks from the 1940s, through the 1990s.
We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here! If you are on the radio, or do voiceovers for You Tube videos, I have tips to make your radio show or video voiceovers better!
In addition to sharing audio from my 40 years in broadcasting, we also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also!

**BTW, I edit all music out of airchecks to avoid music rights issues.**
This bring back memories! WMMR was where I first heard real rock music! Used to listen to WFIL and then discovered WMMR and WYSP. Never went back!
Was a big WNEW FM until 1971 when I moved to Manalapan, N.J. Friends in the 7th grade told me to listen to MMR because I couldn't get NEW clearly.
I remember these days when FM started the takeover. WFIL and WIBG got smaller and WYSP and WMMR opened people up to FM. Times were a changing. What a great time to be a teen.
Way cool! reminds of the very early 70's style that WAAF and WBZ-FM (Ken Shelton & Clark) had in the Boston area, easy announcing that won't make your ears bleed.. Thanks Ellis
@@GreyRockOne You’re welcome. I miss that style of radio.
My favorite was WIOQ Philly.
WIOQ was definitely a special station especially in the early 80s
First off , Ellis nailed it . Secondly , this was the era that split up once-friends , some staying with WIBG or WFIL , others going to WMMR , and those reluctant to go to the 93.3 side would call it drug music and would say things to cut it up such as "Like wow , man , peace and freaky freedom" . I know first hand as I was and avid radio listener and experienced a temporary break-up of long-term car friends at a hamburger place hang-out , the WMMR guys blowing j-bo , whereas the WIBG \ WFIL guys refused to . The split-up of the 1967 to 1973 radio music was almost as big as the Viet Nam war was , itself . This era also created created deep divisions between high school students that would have otherwise at least basically get along .
No doubt because of the differing calls, WMMR wouldn't have simulcast WIP's hourly newscasts as, in New York, WNEW-FM 102.7 had simulcast WNEW 1130's.
I would love to hear some Ed Sciaky airchecks from this era if you have any!
@@Cinephillya I know I have some. I’ll start looking.
